Climate activist claims: ‘Global warming’ may ‘drive record election turnout’ – Voters face ‘unusually warm temperatures’

Think Progress climate activists Joe Romm, a former Clinton Administration official, is fingering “global warming” as the key driver to a potential 2016 “record election turnout.”

“The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) expects unusually warm temperatures over most of the nation to continue through election day,” Romm wrote in a October 31 article titled “Will global warming help drive record election turnout?”

Romm continued: “Instead of seeing the kind of cold, harsh November weather that can keep some people home, most Americans who vote early or on election day will see near-ideal temps. That’s especially important since ‘nearly half of Americans live in precincts where long lines’ to vote were a problem in the 2012 election.

Romm leaves no doubt as to who climate change concerned voters should support. “With this weather projected to continue over the next week, you have no excuse not to get your vote in. And, as Al Gore has explained, there is also no excuse for voting for a third party — if you care about the climate crisis.”…

Was Hillary’s Secret Plan to Attack Climate Skeptics Exposed by Wikileaks?

On Tuesday, October 25, 2016, Wikileaks released a series of emails sent between Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta, and the infamous “social change” media activist, David Fenton. The emails revealed a $3 million plan to attack the Wall Street Journal and Fox News Channel to put them ‘on the defensive’ about their realistic climate stand. The goal was to scare conservative politicians into supporting new government global warming rules and bans.

The series of emails WikiLeaks hacked from Podesta’s account shows that David Fenton thanked Podesta for a meeting on February 19, 2015. Fenton and sent him two emails documenting their conversation.

The first email said: “Here is the [Fenton Communications] plan to go after [the Wall Street Journal] and Fox [News Channel] on climate. I have 500,000 [dollars] of this pledged if I can raise another million.”

The plan, attached to the email, used “guerilla tactics,” budgeting $350,000 for groups including Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace for civil disobedience and social media campaigns, and $600,000 for advertisements in the Wall Street Journal and on the Fox News Channel. It would involve the creation of websites that disseminated true-believer views about climate change, and directly challenged the reporting in Rupert Murdoch’s Fox media.…

Media Made Right Call to Ignore Climate Change in Debates

To the dismay of some pundits, celebrities, and environmental activists, three presidential debates produced zero questions on global warming. Simply wishing an issue to be a priority won’t make it one.

Americans and people around the world are apathetic to taking action on climate change. And for good reason. Chicken Littles have incorrectly predicted doomsday scenarios and, even in the event of climate catastrophe, costly policies offer a nonsolution.

Both domestic and international polls demonstrate how little individuals want to take action on global warming and even more important, how little they’re willing to pay for it.…

Former Federal Hurricane Director ‘appalled’ at Hillary’s ‘false’ climate claims

Neil L. Frank, Ph.D. (Meteorology), the longest-serving Director of the National Hurricane Center (1974–1987) and retired Chief Meteorologist of KHOU-TV, Houston (1987–2008)

As former Director of the National Hurricane Center (1974–1987), I was appalled when, in a campaign rally at Miami-Dade College October 11, Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said, “Hurricane Matthew was likely more destructive because of climate change.” That is false.

We were extremely fortunate that Matthew—category 5 through much of the Caribbean—weakened to category 2 before landfall in South Carolina. It could have been much worse.

In 1893 a much stronger hurricane followed nearly the same track. When its eye reached the Georgia and South Carolina coasts, a 15–20 ft. storm surge inundated the coastal islands. Though population was a small fraction of today’s, between 2,000 and 3,000 died, making that the second deadliest hurricane in U.S. history. The same year another major hurricane killed 2,000 in Louisiana.

All together five hurricanes hit the U.S. in 1893, something that’s happened only 4 times in over 150 years (1886, 1893, 1916, 1933)—all long before CO2 levels rose enough to theoretically cause rapid global warming.

Clinton wants us to believe CO2, emitted when we burn fossil fuels for electricity and transportation vital to life, health, and prosperity, causes global warming that causes more and stronger hurricanes. She’s wrong.

There has been a worldwide 30-year lull in hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones despite the simultaneous warming—manmade or natural. It has been 11 years since a major hurricane hit the U.S. Before that we expected, on average, 1 every 2 years. In the 7 years 1944–1950, well before the rapid rise of CO2, 6 hit Florida alone.

Clinton is ignorant about more than hurricanes. Based on computer climate models that fail test after test, predicting two to three times the observed warming, she claimed that because of rising sea level driven by manmade warming, “one in eight homes in Florida could be underwater by the end of the century.”

Empirical observation says otherwise. Since 1992 sea level in Miami has risen only a little over 1 inch—a rate of 4.2 inches per century, no faster than for millennia. Mrs. Clinton is wrong. It’s not time to move to the mountains.

Yes, Earth’s atmosphere is warming. It has been, off and on, for 150 years. What causes it? CO2, natural cycles, or some combination? Sun and ocean current …

Dem VP Nominee Kaine Compares Fighting Global Warming to a Twelve-Step Program

While speaking at Florida International University, Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine compared fighting global warming to participating in a twelve-step program and accused Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and vice presidential candidate Mike Pence of “turning their back on science.”

Kaine began his remarks on climate change by saying climate change “affects your ability to sell your house, affects your ability to own a business, affects your neighborhoods”:

In Florida and Virginia, we’re worried about climate change. In south Florida, you see the affects of sea level rise. And we see the same thing in Virginia Beach and Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia. The sea levels rising affects your ability to sell your house, affects your ability to own a business, affects your neighborhoods, affects the main road into the largest naval base in the world, in Norfolk, Virginia. Just normal tidal action and when storms come, it’s even worse. And you see that here in south Miami.

In his remarks, Kaine compared defeating climate change to a twelve-step program. According to Kaine, unless you admit climate change is a problem, you are not going to break the cycle and defeat it:

Look, I don’t know how much you know about twelve-step programs. Twelve-step programs are when you’re trying to lick a problem. Step one: admit that you have a problem. If you can’t get to step one, you’re not going to get to step twelve. You aren’t even going to get to step two. You gotta admit you have a problem. And we’ve got a problem with climate change.

Kaine then applauded Obama’s climate change effort and asserted a Clinton administration would move in the same direction:

The good news is this. President Obama worked in a leadership way to get 197 nations in Paris to all agree, these are the steps we’re going to take in our own country to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to try to slow down the pace of climate change. President Obama should get a lot of credit for that. It’s hard to get Congress to do a Mother’s Day resolution. To get 197 nations to do that?

And Hillary and I are going to carry that forward and invest in clean no and low carbon energy so that we can move down the path and help save our planet and create jobs at the same time. But Donald Trump and Mike Pence…

John Kerry: ‘It Pisses Me Off’ That Climate Change Got Left Out of Presidential Debates

By Bridget Johnson

The secretary of State lamented that “not one single question was asked of any candidate on the subject of climate change” during the three presidential debates and vice presidential debate.

“Didn’t that piss you off while you were watching?” DiCaprio asked.

“Yeah. Totally. Totally. It pisses me off tonight, too,” Kerry replied.

Secretary of State John Kerry admitted “it pisses me off” that climate change wasn’t brought up in the presidential debates.

On a panel with Leonardo DiCaprio after a Thursday screening at UN headquarters in New York of the actor’s documentary “Before the Flood,” Kerry said that “maybe November 8th will produce a capacity for the entire Republican caucus” to see the global-warming film.

“It should be required for every single one of them,” he added, to applause from the audience.

Kerry emphasized that “we’re not sitting here chasing some pie-in-the-sky set of possible solutions somewhere down the road.”

“The solutions are here now. Every single one of them is staring us in the face. We know what we have to do. The solution to climate change is energy policy. And if we will make the right choices and everybody here exponentially grown around the planet starts to push the politicians, as the film said, then they won’t dare be against it as the populations begin to demand different sources of electricity, different sources of — of transportation, and so forth,” he said.

Kerry argued that climate-change activists “will be able to win the battle of sending a message to people about how we account for the true costs, about what our opportunities are for a new energy base for our nation, how we will be able to do transportation and meet all of our obligations.”

He recalled trying to get cap-and-trade passed during his time in the Senate and “big coal — which now, by the way, is bankrupt — spent enormous sums of money against other colleagues, scaring them and making it clear to them that they were going to have a very difficult re-election because of the funding mechanisms we have in America for our elections, and that’s why people backed off.”…

Hillary Clinton’s Energy Blackout America: ‘Heavy reliance on wind & solar = huge costs & frequent failures’

By Rupert Darwall — October 21, 2016
Three presidential debates in which there was only one question on the subject that, more than any other, would transform America under Hillary Clinton. “We can be the 21st-century clean-energy superpower and create millions of new jobs and businesses,” the Democratic nominee declared during the second debate. Does she really think that? Does she even know what she really thinks?

Privately, Mrs. Clinton is as close as you can get to an energy realist in a party completely in hock to the environmental movement. She wants to defend fracking and natural gas, but daren’t in public. As the WikiLeaks hack reveals, she tells a blue-collar audience that environmentalist activists should get a life, but doesn’t tell them that to their faces. “The honeymoon won’t last ten minutes,” green activist Bill McKibben warned earlier this week, threatening to redouble the green onslaught on her from November 9.

In truth, McKibben and his allies have already won. Whatever she thinks, Clinton is a prisoner of her public positions. She promises to install half a billion solar panels by 2020, a sevenfold increase from today, and has set a target to generate one-third of America’s electricity from renewable sources by 2027. It would mean that the U.S. would beat the EU’s 27 percent target by three years and six percentage points.

This is an absurdly vast challenge. Even the Europeans have soured on the costs and immense practical difficulties of integrating unreliable wind and solar into the grid. The benefits of Mrs. Clinton’s plan would flow mostly to China — eight of the top ten manufacturers of solar photovoltaic panels last year were Chinese. Its costs would fall on Americans in the form of spiraling electricity bills, a large part of which would go to pay for grid-management tools to reduce the risk of blackouts, and even these may not work very well.…
