Climate skeptics offer ‘cinematic proof’ that warming is a sham

PARIS — Climate skeptics donned tuxedos and walked the red carpet yesterday night to ridicule the quest for a global deal on greenhouse gases now underway in a suburb of the French capital.
The gala in a century-old cinema on a side street in central Paris came as U.N. talks entered their second tense week with hopes of producing an agreement on emissions and finance sometime during the weekend.
But the mood at Cinéma du Panthéon was decidedly more festive than the one now prevailing at the conference facility at Le Bourget, where 40,000 participants are buckling down for a long slog. The film premier brought out climate skeptic luminaries, a few bemused Parisians, some protesters and a friendly polar bear who apparently didn’t feel himself to be at all endangered by rising temperatures linked to fossil fuel combustion.
In attendance was Lord Christopher Monckton, a British peer who in 2012 was ejected from climate negotiations in Doha, Qatar, after he impersonated a delegate from the climate-vulnerable nation of Myanmar in order to address the plenary on the subject of why climate change isn’t happening.
At an opening reception that was heavily weighted toward French cheese plates, Marc Morano, a former aide to Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and publisher of the skeptic blog Climate Depot, offered the film as “cinematic proof that the great global warming calamity has been canceled.”
CFACT founding President David Rothbard told the crowd that the international exercise underway in an airfield a few miles out of town is pointless because the link between human-caused emissions and warming is no more established than when the Kyoto Protocol was negotiated 18 years ago.
It leans heavily on well-known contrarian climate scientists including Judith Curry, Patrick Moore and Bob Carter — many of whom attended the premiere — to make the claims frequently cited by climate skeptics. To wit, carbon dioxide is plant food; global warming has paused for the past decade and a half; and the medieval warming period explains warming, while the current climate is historically cool and the atmosphere “famished” for carbon. Climate scientists are a clique who resist ideas that conflict with their assumptions.

Paraguayan farmer Albrecht Glatzle, who said he was in Paris representing other Paraguayan farmers concerned about how greenhouse gas restraints could affect their operations, said the science of climate change is far from settled.
Glatzle said he is convinced that methane from livestock plays no role in driving atmospheric warming. And he said carbon dioxide makes his crops healthier.
“As a farmer, CO2 is an ally, not an enemy,” he said.

The refusal by alarmists to acknowledge that the Medieval Warming Period (MWP) was as warm, likely warmer than now eliminates any credibility they may have had. Recognition of that fact does not disprove (or prove) that co2 is causing our current warming, so why do alarmists deny this fact when there’s overwhelming evidence showing that the MWP was a global event and likely warmer than now? It turns out that recognition of this obvious fact severely weakens their case. Even the man on the street will then ask the embarrassing
question, “If it was warmer back then, and co2 obviously had nothing to do with that, why isn’t this current warming caused by whatever caused the last one?
That would be an easy response if the alarmists had anything resembling evidence. But there is NO empirical evidence that co2 has EVER (even over geologic periods) had any impact on our temperature, and during most of our planet’s existence, co2 level has been many TIMES higher than it is now. What’s more bizarre is that the only correlation between co2 and temperature is the reverse. Temperature variation occurs first, and 800 to 2800 years later similar variations (both up and downtrends) show up in co2 variation. (It’s the carbon cycle.) This
correlation implies that the alarmists don’t even have a correlation which might make their hypothesis at least plausible.
If even a few other regions remote from Europe showed the MWP trend, one would expect that there would be a necessity to immediately undertake a global investigation to resolve the issue. It turns out that has been done. There are many such regions located by hundreds of peer-reviewed studies, representing the work of individuals, researchers, and organizations from 40+ countries. Quite a few of these studies
were completed before alarmists made their initial claims about anthropogenic warming. (The interest in investigating this issue was ignored by alarmists even back then!) There are links available to all those studies at co2science.org. In addition to these studies (more than 1,000 by now), some 6,000 boreholes (so not confined to just ice core locations) were dug around the globe. The boreholes show that the MWP trend was indeed global.
As it turns out, there were several warming periods BEFORE the MWP, all of them warmer than the MWP, and each warmer than later ones.
The IPCC in past years recognized the global nature of the MWP, but has drifted away from that, now claiming that our current warming is a record for the past 800 years, and with a lower (but undefined probability) that perhaps it’s also a record for the past 1200 years. The IPCC has provided no accompanying evidence for either claim, and made no attempt to discuss earlier warmings.
There is also other types of evidence. The Mendenhall glacier in Alaska recently receded sufficiently to expose splintered tree trunks (dated 1,000 years old) preserved in their original upright position. Receding Swiss glaciers have revealed 4,000 year-old trees. This of course shows that forests were present at latitudes where trees can no longer grow. Antique vineyards dating back to the MWP have been exposed in Scandinavia and the Alps at latitudes where grapes cannot be grown even today. Alarmists attempting to brush off this kind of evidence is tantamount to asking spectators to believe them rather than their own lying eyes.
Planet Earth has spent as much as 25% of its 4.5 Billion year existence with atmospheric concentrations of CO2 at levels of 4000 parts per million (ppm) or greater – an order of magnitude (10x) greater than current levels of CO2 in our atmosphere – and guess what?… the Planet survived just fine… all by itself!
On an existential scale – Planet Earth is today experiencing near-historic low levels of CO2 in our atmosphere (400 ppm). The argument can be made that there is a greater chance of Planet Earth becoming a frozen and lifeless planet (much like Mars); simply because we are closer to a CO2 deficiency on the planet than we are to an over-abundance of CO2 – a compound that is essential for the survival of all plant-life on Earth.
The unfortunate reality is that plant-life begins to shut-down (die) when CO2 concentrations in our atmosphere drop below 150ppm – whereas today’s commercial growing operations pump upwards of 1600ppm into their Greenhouses to facilitate optimum growing conditions. Take a walk in your favourite forest or woodland and you will at times be exposed to CO2 concentrations at levels close to 600ppm… but no worries!… you’ll be just fine. In fact, Princeton Phd Physicist, Freeman Dyson in an April 2015 interview with The Vancouver Sun explains that Planet Earth has greened-up by close to 20% in the last 60 years “… increasing our tillable land, increasing crop yields and feeding more people…” as a direct result of increased levels of CO2 in our atmosphere. In the interview Dyson states emphatically that: “… in the aggregate, increasing levels of CO2 in our atmosphere are a “net benefit” for our biosphere.”
I find it comically ironic that an entire movement that calls itself “green” has positioned itself as the greatest demonizer of the very compound (CO2) that is responsible for “greening” our Planet in the last 3 generations.
Carbon Dioxide also forms the very basis of the food chain in our Oceans!… CO2 is consumed by vast quantities of algae and plankton in our Oceans – these micro-organisms feed the small shrimp and krill that sustain the baitfish, who in turn are prey for the larger ocean predators. Without CO2, our Oceans would be lifeless – our Atmosphere would be toxic and the Planet would be dead!
All life on Planet Earth originated in our Oceans – it is our Oceans that act as vast storage sinks for CO2; as they absorb CO2 during our prolonged Glacial Eras and release it back into the atmosphere following the centuries-long warming process of our interglacials.
The UN’s Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has CO2’s relationship to climate exactly backwards!… CO2 does not cause warming… it follows warming!… It is a trailing indicator of “warming events” that occurred in the near past (600-1000 years past). The reason; is that our Oceans are so vast… they literally take centuries to warm-up and it is this warming process in our Oceans that releases and emits CO2 back into our atmosphere to complete the cycle during the warmer interglacial periods like our current Holocene Epoch – which reached it’s maximum warming 8,000 years ago of 2-3 degrees centigrade higher than today.
Mankind with all of his Industry, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Transportation and Land-use needs is responsible for emitting approximately 30 giga-tons of CO2 into our atmosphere per year worldwide. Yes!… that is 30 billion tons… but it is a mere 4% of the 750 giga-ton footprint of CO2 that is emitted naturally into our atmosphere every year by our oceans, lakes, deltas, volcanoes, forest fires, dying vegetation, animals of all kinds and microbes with whom we share the planet.
Why then is CO2 the source of such angst and hysteria from Academia, our bureaucracies and Progressives?… Answer: In today’s world of misinformation, CO2 has been tagged as the prime candidate onto which our Progressive elites can attach a brand new tax, to pay for the entitlements that 1st World Nations have promised to their constituencies. While at the same time, the UN’s IPCC has become a hypocritical advocate for limiting the growth potential of most 3rd World Nations who are desperate to utilize their own carbon-based energy sources in order to develop their new and emerging economies.
I suppose under the auspices of the United Nations IPCC and alarmists everywhere, we can expect the hype and ramped-up rhetoric to increase during the COP-21 Climate Talks in Paris — soon to be augmented by the Progressive Carbon Tax, the Fresh Water Tax, the Sunshine Tax and last but not least, the Oxygen Tax!
