NEW NASA SURVEY FINDS ANTARCTICA COVERED IN MORE ICE THAN PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT

Date: 14/08/16

Trevor English, Interesting Engineering

Antartica is one of the most ice-covered locations in the world, but it is also one of the world’s largest land masses. Previous estimates by researchers placed the level of uncovered land in Antartica at about 1%. However, a new survey in part by NASA shows that this estimate was rather generous and the continent is covered in a lot more ice than previously thought. Researchers from Cryosphere have shown that only.18 percent of the entire continent is not covered by ice and snow, which is surprisingly low. With this new figure, researchers will monitor this survey over time to see the effects of climate change and global warming.

“With effects ranging from influencing ocean currents to raising sea level, Antarctica plays a large role in the global climate system. Researchers are using a variety of methods to understand how Antarctica will react to a changing climate, but limited information on ice thickness and what lies beneath the ice makes this work challenging.” ~ NASA

This new research has been put off for a while, and it may surprise you that this is the first time we have had an accurate representation of Antartica’s land mass. Automated techniques were used in the new study to allow seamless data collection as well as the automatic removal of clouds over the continent to make the snow and ice readings more accurate. The NASA and US Geological Survey satellite was used for the new study, which corrected previous ice and snow calculations in comparison to land mass.

President Obama Begs America Not To Tear Up the Paris Agreement

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

President Obama, who has done more than any other President to sell American children into foreign debt slavery, has appealed to the American People not to tear up his climate “legacy”.

Remarks of President Barack Obama as Delivered
Weekly Address
The White House
August 13, 2016

Hi, everybody. One of the most urgent challenges of our time is climate change. We know that 2015 surpassed 2014 as the warmest year on record – and 2016 is on pace to be even hotter.

When I took office, I said this was something we couldn’t kick down the road any longer – that our children’s future depended on our action. So we got to work, and over the past seven-and-a-half years, we’ve made ambitious investments in clean energy, and ambitious reductions in our carbon emissions. We’ve multiplied wind power threefold. We’ve multiplied solar power more than thirtyfold. In parts of America, these clean power sources are finally cheaper than dirtier, conventional power. And carbon pollution from our energy sector is at its lowest level in 25 years, even as we’re continuing to grow our economy.

We’ve invested in energy efficiency, and we’re slashing carbon emissions from appliances, homes, and businesses – saving families money on their energy bills. We’re reforming how we manage federal coal resources, which supply roughly 40% of America’s coal. We’ve set the first-ever national standards limiting the amount of carbon pollution power plants can release into the sky.

We also set standards to increase the distance our cars and light trucks can go on a gallon of gas every year through 2025. And they’re working. At a time when we’ve seen auto sales surge, manufacturers are innovating and bringing new technology to market faster than expected. Over 100 cars, SUVs, and pick-up trucks on the market today already meet our vehicles standards ahead of schedule. And we’ve seen a boom in the plug-in electric vehicle market – with more models, lower battery costs, and more than 16,000 charging stations.

But we’re not done yet.In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll release a second round of fuel efficiency standards for heavy-duty vehicles. We’ll take steps to meet the goal we set with Canada and Mexico to achieve 50 percent clean power across North America by 2025. And we’ll continue to protect our lands and waters so that our kids

Two former Republican Warmist EPA administrators throw support to Clinton

The former administrators take particular exception to Trump’s stand on climate change, which he has characterized as a hoax. They say climate change is “the singular health and environmental threat to the world today” and praise the Paris agreement adopted in December by nearly 200 nations.

“To back away now, as Trump wants to do, would set the world back decades — years we could never recover,” the statement from Ruckelshaus and Reilly says. “The young people in this country deserve far better than that as our legacy.”

Obama: ‘Much more to do’ on climate change

President Obama praised his administration on Saturday for the progress it has made combating climate change over the past seven-and-a-half years, but pressed Americans to step up their resolve to save the environment in his final six months in office.

“There’s still much more to do. But there’s no doubt that America has become a global leader in the fight against climate change,” Obama said in the weekly White House address. “And if we keep pushing, and leading the world in the right direction, there’s no doubt that, together, we can leave a better, cleaner, safer future for our children.”

The progressive president cited a number of domestic victories that have decreased Americans’ energy bills, including multiplying the availability of wind power threefold and solar power thirty-fold, lowering the price of clean power sources and bringing carbon pollution levels from the energy sector to its lowest level in 25 years.

While the auto industry has experienced record sales in recent years, that surge is not hurting the environment despite more vehicles on the road. The Obama administration has implemented new standards to ensure the distance cars and light trucks go on a gallon of gas increases every year through 2025.

But the changes Americans have seen unfolding all around them are only the beginning, Obama explained.

The White House plans to release a second round of fuel efficiency standards, but these will be for heavy-duty vehicles. In addition, the U.S. will move forward on its goal to achieve 50 percent clean power across North America by 2025 through partnerships with Canada and Mexico.

“Together, we must continue to work domestically and build upon the progress we’ve made along with other countries – such as the Paris Agreement, the most ambitious climate change agreement in history,” Obama said.

Obama readies final rule in climate agenda

The Obama administration is expected to issue the last rule in the president’s far-reaching climate change agenda as soon as Tuesday, setting new greenhouse gas and fuel efficiency standards for big-rig trucks.
That may be the reason the president used his Saturday radio address to underscore the new rules in discussing the steps he will be taking to combat global warming, which he called “one of the most urgent challenges of our time.”

“But we’re not done yet,” when it comes to taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, he said. “In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll release a second round of fuel efficiency standards for heavy-duty vehicles,” as well as taking steps with Canada and Mexico to achieve a 50-percent clean energy goal for the continent by 2025.

Mexico is planning to issue its own rules for big trucks, and Obama has agreed to harmonize the forthcoming U.S. truck standards with Canada.

The final truck rule is phase two of the Environmental Protection Agency’s joint program with the Department of Transportation to cut greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty trucks beginning in 2019. Phase one of the joint climate and efficiency rules end for model-year 2018 vehicles.

The new regulations were proposed last year and after next week will become law to be implemented under the next president’s watch.

The truck rules establish standards to improve fuel efficiency and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Many scientists blame the emissions from burning fossil fuels for warming the Earth’s climate, resulting in more droughts and flooding.

Big-rig trucks account for almost 20 percent of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions and oil consumption while only making up about 5 percent of all vehicles on the road.

The rules are expected to be issued next week with most of the large trucking fleets’ blessing. Yet, some in the industry are worried about added measures that will increase the stringency of the rules and make them more expensive to meet.

Cummins, the largest engine maker in the world for big trucks, is supporting the rules, despite reservations it is hearing from some, a senior official with the company told the Washington Examiner.

Global Warming Extremists Try To Silence Science — Again

Climate Change: Global warming advocates like to pretend they are open-minded, all about science. But let someone else’s science get in the way of their “consensus,” and you find out how little they really believe in science.

Just ask Professor Valentina Zharkova of Britain’s Northumbria University. She and a team of researchers conducted a study on sunspots, which are known to have a strong effect on solar radiation and thus on the Earth’s climate.

What they found was remarkable: solar activity, based on models that closely fit past trends, looks to be headed for a sharp downward turn. Indeed, activity could decline to levels not seen since the so-called “Little Ice Age,” an unusually cold period that stretched across the Northern Hemisphere and lasted from roughly 1650 to 1850.

As such, a study of this kind, you might think, would be incredibly important. But instead of being greeted with scientific questions or open curiosity about her group’s study, Zharkova’s team was met with a most unscientific hostility.

“Some of them were welcoming and discussing,” she said in an interview with The Global Warming Policy Forum. “But some of them were quite — I would say — pushy.”…
