‘Sen. Boxer’s Own Experts Contradict Obama on Climate Change’   — During yesterday’s Environment and Public Works hearings, Sen. David Vitter asked a panel of experts, including experts selected by Boxer, “Can any witnesses say they agree with Obama’s statement that warming has accelerated during the past 10 years?” For several seconds, nobody said a word. Sitting just a few rows behind the expert witnesses, I thought I might have heard a few crickets chirping, but I couldn’t tell for sure. We’ll give Obama the benefit of the doubt and count the crickets in the “maybe” camp. After several seconds of deafening silence, global warming activist Heidi Cullen, who formerly served as a meteorologist for the Weather Channel, attempted to change the subject. Cullen said our focus should be on longer time periods rather than the 10-year period mentioned by Obama. When pressed, however, she contradicted Obama’s central assertion and said warming has slowed, not accelerated. Several minutes later, Sen. Jeff Sessions returned to the topic and sought additional clarity. Sessions recited Obama’s quote claiming accelerating global warming during the past 10 years and asked, “Do any of you support that quote?” Again, a prolonged and deafening silence ensued. Neither Cullen nor any of the other experts on the panel spoke a word, not even in an attempt to change the subject.

Global Crop Production Increases Threefold Over The Past 50 Years

Greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture made up 5 billion tons of CO2 equivalents in 2010, or 10% of all anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.  At the same time, global crop production has expanded threefold over the past 50 years, largely through higher yields per unit of land and crop intensification.
The 2013 edition of FAO’s Statistical Yearbook sheds new light on agriculture’s contribution to global warming, trends in hunger and malnutrition and the state of the natural resource base upon which world food production depends.

Greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture grew 1.6% per year during the decade after the year 2000, new FAO data presented in the yearbook show, with the sector’s total annual output in 2010 reaching 5 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, or 10% of all anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.  Among the various agriculture sectors, livestock activities and the use of synthetic fertilizer are the largest contributors.
Agricultural production has increased
* Global crop production has expanded threefold over the past 50 years, largely through higher yields per unit of land and crop intensification.
* Global per capita food supply rose from about 2 200 kcal/day in the early 1960s to over 2 800 kcal/day by 2009
* Buoyed by high commodity prices, agriculture has demonstrated astonishing resilience during global economic turmoil. In 2010, agricultural value-added at the world level rose by 4 percent, in contrast to a 1 percent increase in overall GDP.

Analysis Shows That Arctic Sea Ice Melt Extent Mostly Occurs In Natural Cycles

What is now happening with Arctic sea ice?
By Dr. Sebastian Lüning and Prof. Fritz Vahrenholt

Summer is now in full swing and the Arctic sea ice that formed over the wintertime is now steadily melting. Typically the minimum in sea ice extent is reached in mid September. Last year (2012) a new melt record was reached for the satellite era, which however only officially started in 1979. How does it look this year?
The Center for Ocean and Ice of the Danish Ocean Meteorological Service provides a new ice graphic on a daily basis and so that the situation can be monitored. The Arctic sea ice extent of 2013 is depicted by the bold dark line on the chart below (Figure 1). This year there is considerably more ice than there was over the three previous years, which perhaps has something to do with the especially hard winter and the late summer start. It remains to be seen how this will develop further. Also in Alaska and the Baltic Sea larger than normal sea ice areas were observed.

In the meantime it has been officially confirmed that the north polar ice minimum of 2012 was mostly caused by a powerful storm. Three new studies have been able document this (Simmonds & Rudeva 2012, Parkinson & Comiso 2013 and Zhang et al. 2013). The storm ripped apart the ice cover and scattered the ice to the oceans. Also playing a role was the reduced ice thickness. The high temperatures of the current moderm warm period has helped to reduce the sea ice thickness over time, thus allowing the wind to have an easier time than it did earlier.
How did things look before the satellite age?
Here we find some surprises: Thin, shrinking ice was also common in earlier times, but it was not possible to measure it extensively. One phase of especially low sea ice in the Arctic occurred between 1920 and 1950 when submarines were able to surface in ice-free waters directly at the North Pole. A good overview of this period can be found at Judith Curry’s blog.
Now how does that fit with the notion that sea ice would move only in one direction, namely …

Barack Obama=BIRD KILLER! ‘Those giant wind turbines kill around 600,000 birds annually according to a recently published scholarly article in the Wildlife Society Bulletin. But the number is likely higher’

Barack Obama=BIRD KILLER!

During the 2012 campaign we learned the President of the US ate dog when he was growing up. Now we learn years later that he is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of birds each year  and if he has his way that killing will accelerate.

Its not from hunting all of America saw that lame picture of Obama’s fake firing of a shot gun. This President is killing birds (and the economy) via his green energy subsidies.

“The plan I’m announcing today will help us double again our energy from wind and sun,”
As Brian Seasholes reminds us in a recent Forbes magazine piece, those giant wind turbines kill around 600,000 birds annually according to a recently
published scholarly article in the Wildlife Society Bulletin. But the number is likely higher:

The latest wind power plan is likely to cost taxpayers a lot money and cost a lot of birds their lives. Wind turbines have a significant impact on this nation’s birds, especially birds of prey and other large species. The American Bird Conservancy even thinks it’s possible the golden eagle will end up on the endangered species list because so many are being killed by wind turbines. In fact, the Obama administration is so fixated on wind power that it recently gave a California-based wind company an exemption from prosecution if a turbine kills a California condor, one of the rarest birds in the world, with only around 400 alive today. And the administration is hoping to grant a similar exemption to all wind farms along the 1,500-mile Texas to North Dakota migratory corridor for the whooping crane, another of the world’s rarest birds.

According to the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, if you shoot a Bald Eagle you can be subject to a maximum of two years in Jail and a $250,000 fine. However:

“What it boils down to is this: If you electrocute an eagle, that is bad, but if you chop it to pieces [with a wind turbine], that is OK,” Tim Eicher, a former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service law enforcement agent, told the AP.
Obama’s plan is to double the number of turbines which means over 1.2 million dead birds, plus a bigger hole in your pocket. Plus he said:

“Your federal government will consume 20 percent of its electricity from renewable sources within the next …
