2036 is the new 2012?! Michael Mann starts his own Mayan Calendar deadline: ‘Global Warming Will Cross a Dangerous Threshold in 2036’

Mann’s latest propaganda: “Global Warming Will Cross a Dangerous Threshold in 2036”

http://hockeyschtick.blogspot.com/2014/03/manns-latest-propaganda-global-warming.html

Michael Mann has published an article in Scientific American today entitled “Why Global Warming Will Cross a Dangerous Threshold in 2036,” subtitled, “Emitting carbon dioxide at current rates will soon push Earth’s temperature up by 2 degrees Celsius. Here’s how to make the calculation yourself.”

Mann begins the article with, “If the world continues to burn fossil fuels at the current rate, global warming will rise 2 degrees Celsius by 2036, crossing a threshold that many scientists think will hurt all aspects of human civilization: food, water, health, energy, economy and national security,” which suggests the 2C “dangerous threshold” has a scientific basis. In fact, the “2C threshold” was unscientifically plucked out of thin air, as the University of East Anglia’s Phil Jones inadvertently admitted in Climategate 2.0. The UK Met Office subsequently admitted this as well to the Washington Post.

Mann appears to suggest that global temperatures will increase an additional 2C over the next 22 years from now to 2036, but doesn’t mention he’s talking about 2C warming total since pre-industrial times. Since the globe has warmed 0.7-0.8C since pre-industrial times, that would be an additional ~1.2C over the next 22 years.

Mann then proceeds in the article to go through his sciencey-sounding calculations to arrive at the dangerous threshold year of 2C warming by 2036, but his radiative calculations are just more hockey stick CAGW propaganda for the following reasons [and others]:

1. Mann uses the repeatedly debunked “IPCC/Myhre formula” for CO2 radiative forcing:

5.35*ln(CO2end/CO2start)which has a huge erroneous fudge factor of 5.35 that assumes increased water vapor will cause a positive feedback and increase total radiative forcing from CO2 & water vapor by a factor of 3.8 times. In reality, increased water vapor has a negative feedback cooling effect that more than exceeds any warming effect of CO2. The wet adiabatic lapse rate is only one-half of the dry rate, proving that water vapor has a net cooling effect. Satellite observations also prove the net climate feedbacks are negative, not positive as Mann assumes.

2. Even if we falsely assume the IPCC formula is correct, and that CO2 levels will rise at the same slightly exponential rate of e^.3311, CO2 levels in 2036 would be about 431ppm. Plugging this into the IPCC formula results in 5.35*ln(431/400)= 0.4W/m2. According to the IPCC, each additional …

Climatologist Dr. Roy Spencer Mocks Gore for issuing 10-year tipping point in 2006: Al Gore’s 10-year climate warning – Only 2 years left & still no global warming

Via Climatologist Dr. Roy Spencer:

January 10th, 2014 by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D.

It’s been 8 years since Al Gore told us in January 2006 that we had only 10 years left to solve the global warming problem.

In the grand tradition of prophets of doom, his prognostication is not shaping up too well…still no statistically significant warming:
Gores-10-yr-warming-8-yrs-later

And if you use RSS version of the satellite data, it will look even worse for Mr. Gore.

Oh, I know. All that extra energy, hundredths of a degree of it, could be hiding in the deep ocean. Good luck getting Mr. and Mrs. Taxpayer worked up over that one.

Also, in Gore’s Dec. 10, 2007 “Earth has a fever” speech, Gore referred to a prediction by U.S. climate scientist Wieslaw Maslowski that the Arctic’s summer ice could “completely disappear” by 2013 due to global warming caused by carbon emissions.

He’s been proven wrong on those two predictions, and he’s likely to be proven wrong on a third, when he moved the goalposts in 2009 in this video.

Climate Depot’s Morano on new alarmist National Academy of Sciences’ climate ‘tipping point’ study: It ‘openly shills for more climate funding for its members’

AP’s Borenstein quotes Prof. Wuebbles: ‘Donald Wuebbles, a University of Illinois climate scientist who wasn’t part of the academy study, called it important, especially the call for better warning systems’

But no mention that Wuebbles has been writing reports for alarmist pressure groups Union of Concerned Scientists for a decade. See here.

Climate Depot Response: Prof. Wuebbles might as well claim that we never had weather like this until those darn witches moved in the neighborhood’

Below is a collection of Climate Tipping Points from recent years:

Once again, the world is being warned of a climate “tipping point.” The latest bout of stern warnings comes from a survey of 14 climate “experts.”

Get ready, we only have 190 years! Scientists ‘expect climate tipping point’ by 2200 – UK Independent – June 28, 2010 – Excerpt: “13 of the 14 experts said that the probability of reaching a tipping point (by 2200) was greater than 50 per cent, and 10 said that the chances were 75 per cent or more.”

Such silliness. It’s difficult to keep up whether it is hours, days, months or 1000 years. Here are few recent examples of others predicting climate “tipping points” of various durations.

HOURS: Flashback March 2009: ‘We have hours’ to prevent climate disaster — Declares Elizabeth May of Canadian Green Party

Days: Flashback Oct. 2009: UK’s Gordon Brown warns of global warming ‘catastrophe’; Only ’50 days to save world’

Months: Prince Charles claimed a 96-month tipping point in July 2009

Years: Flashback Oct .2009: WWF: ‘Five years to save world’

Millennium: Flashback June 2010: 1000 years delay: Green Guru James Lovelock: Climate change may not happen as fast as we thought, and we may have 1,000 years to sort it out’

It is becoming obvious that the only authentic climate “tipping point” we can rely is this one:

Inconvenient History of Climate ‘Tipping Point’ Warnings

As early as 1989, the UN was already trying to sell their “tipping point” rhetoric on the public. See: U.N. Warning of 10-Year ‘Climate Tipping Point’ Began in 1989 – Excerpt: According to July 5, 1989, …

Global warming activist scientists may not be the first to proclaim a doomsday year of 2047 as the end of time! — 2047 is the new 2012 — but global warming activists were beaten to Armageddon!

Global warming activist scientists may not be the first to proclaim a doomsday year of 2047 as the end of time. See: Oh No! ’2047 Is The New 2012!’ A new Mayan Calendar Deadline! ‘A climate plague affecting every living thing’ — AP: ‘Temps Go Off the Charts Around 2047′

A Climate Depot analysis has uncovered that 2047 has long been seen as a successor to 2012 as an apocalyptic date.

The website ChaCha.com in 2011, answered the following question: “Why do people think the world will end in 2047?”

ANSWER: ‘Someone started this rumor because calendars on many cell phones go to 2047.’ Screen shot below:

Others have worried about the year 2047 for the same reason. A question posted on a BYU website on February 1, 2012, asked:

“My cell phone’s calendar ends on December 31, 2047. Does that mean that the world is going to end then, according to the obviously infallible Book of Verizon? I’m scared!”

Fear of 2047 is not just limited to cell phone users and global warming activists. A group known as “The Church of !BLAIR!” has long predicted that 2047 would be the end of times as well. September 14, 2047 to be precise.

According the website “Religious Tolerance”: 2047-SEP-14: According to The Church of !BLAIR!, the human race will probably be terminated at 3:28 AM (Soho, England time). The church teaches, with tongue firmly in cheek, that if the human race does not discard their plastic conformity, then the Gods will withdraw their protection. The Gods don’t want us to worship them; they don’t want sacrifices or even offerings. They just want us to rid itself of our excessive “Normalcy”. At that point, Astro-Lemurs (extra-terrestrials similar in shape to lemurs, but with rainbow colored bodies) will attack the entire human race and beat them to death with gigantic burritos. You have been warned. 😉 Unfortunately, the Church is no longer online to reinforce their warnings.

2047 has also been featured in Star Trek as the year Los Angeles “is struck by an earthquake and parts of the cities go to the sea.”

According to Wikipedia, “In SimCity video game, Rio de Janeiro is flooded due to global warming. A balkanized India enters a war.” And “in the real world, on July 1st, Hong Kong may end the one-country-two-systems regime with China, the guarantees will be over.”…
