‘Follow the money’: Climatologist Dr. Roy Spencer pans – Part of report ‘is just simply made up’ – ‘There is no fingerprint of human-caused versus naturally-caused climate change’

Report claim: ‘Climate change poses particular threats to Indigenous Peoples’ health, well-being, and ways of life.’

Spencer reactions: ‘O..M..G. So let’s help poor people by increasing the cost of everything by making the energy on which everything depends even more expensive? The people who write this drivel are so clueless they should not be allowed to influence the decision making process.’

Modest warming and more CO2 available to the biosphere is already having positive impacts, such as the recent greening of the planet. Trying to turn the most obvious positive outcomes into negatives leads to logical contortions which would be funny if they weren’t so serious. Nature changes anyway, folks, as evidenced by glaciers in Europe and North America receding and uncovering ancient tree stumps. Ecosystems are being “overwhelmed”? I don’t think so. Ecosystems are not static.

Climatologist Dr. Roger Pielke Sr. rips ‘failure’ of new Fed Report: ‘That much of the media accepted the NCA without questioning its findings and conclusions either indicates they are naive or they have chosen to promote a particular agenda and this report fits their goal’

Hi Judy Excellent analysis of the NCA. Your text

“The report effectively implies that there is no climate change other than what is caused by humans, and that extreme weather events are equivalent to climate change”

“The failure to imagine future extreme events and climate scenarios, other than those that are driven by CO2 emissions and simulated by deficient climate models, has the potential to increase our vulnerability to future climate surprises”

succinctly shows the major failure of their report.

With respect to their equivalence of climate change to just that driven by CO2 emissions, this issue was clearly refuted in

The failings of the models with respect to multi-decadal climate predictions (projections) is documented, for example, in

Pielke Sr., R.A., and R.L. Wilby, 2012: Regional climate downscaling – what’s the point? Eos Forum, 93, No. 5, 52-53, doi:10.1029/2012EO050008.http://pielkeclimatesci.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/r-361.pdf

That much of the media accepted the NCA without questioning its findings and conclusions either indicates they are naive or they have chosen to promote a particular agenda and this report fits their goal.

Analysis: Fact Checking the White House’s Climate Assessment

http://blog.heritage.org/2014/05/06/fact-checking-white-houses-bogus-climate-assessment/

NCA Quote: “Precipitation patterns are changing”

Reality: Precipitation patterns were never constant.  Creating a crisis from the normal allows climate catastrophists to point to every abnormal bit of wet or dry as being “consistent with models” that predict one horrible outcome or another.

NCA Quote: “sea level is rising”

Reality: Yes sea level is rising, which it has done since the end of the last ice age.  But the frequent claims and predictions of accelerating sea-level rise are not borne out in the data.  In fact sea-level rise has slowed recently.  One main-stream climatologist says this variation “makes the 21st century of sea level rise projections seem like unjustified arm waving.”

NCA Quote: “the frequency and intensity of some extreme weather events are increasing”

Reality: The latest report on the science from The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and analysis provided by the adminstration’s own National Climatic Data Center conclude that there isn’t a case for extreme weather increases – no significant trends for floods, droughts, hurricanes or tornadoes.

NCA Quote: “In Arctic Alaska, the summer sea ice that once protected the coasts has receded”

Reality: Global warming is supposedly global.  Global sea ice (Arctic and Antarctic) is above average and, for this time of year, it is at its highest level in 30 years, which is the third-highest on record.

The authors apparently do not think anybody is checking their statements or they couldn’t possibly think they would get away with this one:

NCA Quote: “It is notable that as these data records have grown longer and climate models have become more comprehensive, earlier predictions have largely been confirmed.”

Reality: The past 15 years have seen the climate model predictions stray farther and farther from actual temperatures (here and here).  Last year, prominent climatologist, Hans von Storch, said, “If things continue as they have been, in five years, at the latest, we will need to acknowledge that something is fundamentally wrong with our climate models.”  Maybe Professor von Storch needs four more years to be sure the models are wrong, but there are no grounds on which the models can be declared “confirmed.”  Instead, the predictions are getting worse and worse.…

No Global Warming Since The Kyoto Treaty Was Rejected

Bill Clinton, Barack Obama weather deja vu

The stars of meteorology were aligned as the White House made its case on climate change.  NBC’s Al Roker was there, along with more than 100 national and local television weather forecasters — some of them doing their TV hits from the White House lawn. They met with the president and his advisers. And the administration hoped the broadcasters’ popular appeal would help sell the public on the need to take action on global warming

No, that wasn’t the big climate-weather outreach that the Obama White House held on Tuesday. It was a quite similar event that the Clinton White House held in October 1997, as that administration was preparing for discussions of a global climate agreement in Kyoto, Japan.  But yes, Roker was invited both time

John Coleman’s Blog for Wednesday, May 7th

The sky is falling. “Climate Change” is running wild and disaster is certain unless we immediately stop burning coal and oil and move quickly to “green energy” to eliminate use of fossil fuels. Heat waves, huge floods, powerful storms, droughts and rising seas are on the verge of killing millions of us and destroying our civilization. That is my summary of the new Federal Assessment of Climate Change issued by a Obama administration team of more than 300 specialists guided by a 60-member federal advisory committee produced the report. It was reviewed by federal agencies and a panel of the National Academy of Sciences.

This 600 page litany of doom and gloom has received extensive coverage by the panting anchors of the national media who feel important when tell their audience that “the sky is falling.” Horrible pictures of storms, floods, drought and heat waves leaped out of the TV sets as the New York and Washington DC headquartered media was particularly excited to tell us how the huge increases in floods and storms was the worst in that part of the nation.

If you accept the picture painted by this report, the weather was just right, steady and nice in the historic past but because our industrialized society has powered its heating and air conditioning, its transportation by train, plane, cars and trucks, generated it’s electric power to run our lights, computers, television and smart phones with fossil fuels it has triggered this nightmare of awful storms, droughts and heat waves.

I am deeply disturbed to have to suffer through this total distortion of the data and agenda driven, destructive episode of bad science gone berserk. The only good news is that I least where I am and on the channels and websites I saw I was not further insulted by fawning TV Weathercasters visiting the White House and interviewing the President. I best I can tell, on a national level, that turned out to be a non-event (thank goodness).

Please allow me to hold your attention for a few minutes to explain …
