Former ACLU Prez: Targeting Global Warming Skeptics Is ‘Pure Harassment’
Harvey Silverglate, a renowned civil rights attorney and former president of the American Civil Liberties Union in Massachusetts, called investigations of global warming skeptics by state attorneys general “pure harassment.”
“It is outrageous for any law enforcement official to be seeking to win this battle for minds by flexing law enforcement muscle and trying to shut up the other side,” Silverglate told The Boston Herald Thursday.
Silverglate, a veteran civil rights lawyer, was reacting to a subpoena issued Wednesday by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, demanding ExxonMobil turn over 40 years of records, including records regarding prominent conservative think tanks.
Healey claims the investigation is to determine if Exxon misled the public and shareholders about the risks of global warming. Healey is the latest state prosecutor to demand records from groups that disagree with her on global warming. New York AG Eric Schneiderman became the first law enforcer to investigate Exxon in November.

Obama’s Energy Efficiency Regs Are ‘Making Appliances Way Worse’
The Obama administration’s seemingly never-ending wave of energy efficiency regulations for everyday household appliances don’t seem to be working very well, according to congressional testimony.
Energy Department regulators have or plan to impose 23 different energy efficiency regulations for household appliances by 2018, and already the home appliance industry and policy experts find these rules just make appliances cost more and perform worse.
“DOE has never looked back to see what the energy savings actually were or if consumers actually ever benefited from spending more money,” Stephen Yurek, the president of the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute, told Congress Friday.
“Although energy efficiency standards are often billed as having substantial environmental benefits, these benefits are relatively small and typically are not sufficient to outweigh the costs to consumers of the standards,” echoed Sophie Miller, a senior policy analyst at The George Washington University Regulatory Studies Center.
But House Republicans brought in several witnesses who disagree with DOE’s claims. One witness even remarked how DOE appliance regulations were making dishwashers less effective at cleaning dishes.
The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) conducted a massive consumer testing effort on how DOE dishwasher regulations would impact the product’s ability to remove soils and grease. DOE rules made dishwashers way worse.
AHAM then surveyed consumers who tested such dishwashers, many of whom said “the dishes were ‘yucky,’ ‘unsanitary,’ ‘unappetizing,’ ‘filthy,’ and ‘nasty,’”Joseph McGuire, AHAM’s president, said in his prepared testimony.
“Not one person would serve family or friends from the dishwasher at the proposed levels,” he said. “Moreover … consumers are likely to pre-rinse dishes, which increases water use.”
The House hearing is the latest effort by Republicans to highlight the the huge costs imposed by DOE regulations. Tennessee Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn went after DOE’s ceiling fan and furnace regulations in 2015, noting how the latter would add thousands to the upfront costs consumers pay to heat their homes.
“This is one of those regulations that is too expensive to afford. The cost on this is astronomical,” she said last year. “Even DOE itself says the cost to the American consumer is $12 billion to install …

That encourages people to trade in their inefficient, older vehicles, for newer vehicles.

Earlier this month, a professor at Santa Monica College led students in an ‘EcoSexual Sextravaganza’ in which participants ‘married the ocean.’
Amber Katherine, a philosophy professor who helped organize the May 14 event, explained toCampus Reform that the purpose of the “wedding” was to bring about a deeper love for the planet through “ecocentric passion and even lust.”
The ceremony began with Bruce Cartier, a former SMC student, proclaiming to those gathered at Santa Monica Beach that “today we stand upon this holy earth and in this sacred space to witness the rite of matrimony between the sea and us all.”
Next, leaders of the event distributed rings to the students, announcing “with this ring, I bestow upon the sea the treasures of my mind heart and hands—as well as my body and soul. With the power vested in us, we now pronounce you ‘married to the sea.’”
Some students then made their way down to the water, where they were urged by event organizers to “consummate” the marriage and “make love with the water.”
“Stick your toes in the water … or any part of your body that you want.”
The event, according to Professor Katherine, “was funded by a number of campus organizations” with the main sponsor being the University’s Public Policy Institute chapter.
One attendee of the event—who identified herself only as “Serenity”—spoke about the importance of gaining consent from the earth before proceeding with a physical relationship.
“Back when I would hug trees in Santa Cruz, I would sort of ask the tree if it was okay if I hugged it and I would feel their spirit or energy or something give a response back, and then proceed accordingly,” she told The Corsair. “Consent is definitely important. Do you think the Earth would consent to fracking and pollution? Probably not”.
“It was actually our second marriage so it was kind of like renewing my vows for me,” added SMC EcoSexual Club president Diego Marquez.

‘Climate Hustle’ film under attack by late night comedian! ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Airs 7 min. ‘F-Bomb’ Clip to Mock Film He Didn’t Even See – Morano Responds
When critics trash a film, they’ve usually actually seen it – but, not ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel. So, the filmmaker of movie debunking climate hysteria is challenging Kimmel to attend a private screening.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host used seven minutes of his Monday show to mock a climate skeptic’s film he obviously hadn’t seen – since he repeats the very alarmist talking points the film debunks.
Kimmel bashed “Climate Hustle,” a climate skeptic film that aired in 400 theaters nationwide Monday, by making misleading, unsupportable, and inaccurate claims, and personally attacking Gov. Sarah Palin for supporting the film.
He then aired a two-minute climate change advocacy “message” featuring scientists dropping the “F-Bomb” to insult anyone skeptical of man-made climate change.
Kimmel’s rant against “Climate Hustle” displays a complete ignorance of the content of the film – and deploys the same shopworn deceitful and mean-spirited tactics the film exposes and addresses.
In “Climate Hustle”:
- Climatologist Dr. Roger Pielke, Sr. explains how, since alarmists can’t debate the facts, they attack the messenger (as Kimmel personally insults Palin and the scientists drop the F-Bomb on skeptics),
- The “97% scientific consensus” claim Kimmel cites is revealed to be the product of slanted methodology – one of which didn’t even poll 97 scientists,
- Kimmel’s “hottest years ever” claim is dismantled and debunked,
- The Big Money driving climate influence is shown to be on the activist side – in terms of grants, research funding, alarmist advocacy, etc. – not, as Kimmel claims, coming from corporate “polluters,” and
- Renowned dissenting scientists (including a Nobel Laureate and a moon-mission astronaut) share data and analysis debunking climate hysteria – not the ignorant, average slobs Kimmel accuses his dissenting viewers of being.
In response to Kimmel’s uninformed, agenda-driven rant on national television, “Climate Hustle” producer, writer and host Marc Morano is challenging Kimmel to view the film.
Morano tells MRCTV:
