…UN Paris climate deal ‘is likely to be history’s most expensive treaty’ – ‘Cost of between $1 trillion and $2 trillion annually’

Bjorn Lomborg:
Even more insidiously, doom-mongering makes us panic and seize upon the wrong responses to global warming. At a cost of between $1 trillion and $2 trillion annually, the Paris climate agreement, recently ratified by China, is likely to be history’s most expensive treaty. It will slow the world’s economic growth to force a shift to inefficient green energy sources.
This will achieve almost nothing. My peer-reviewed research, published last November in the journal Global Policy, shows that even if every nation were to fulfill all their carbon-cutting promises by 2030 and stick to them all the way through the century—at a cost of more than $100 trillion in lost GDP—global temperature rise would be reduced by a tiny 0.3°F (0.17°C).
…
Tackling issues like poverty, health care, corruption and domestic violence would do even more. Those who seek to help should keep the bigger picture in mind.
Mr. Lomborg, director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center, is the author of “The Skeptical Environmentalist” (Cambridge Press, 2001) and “Cool It” ( Knopf, 2007)…

Coal CEO Bob Murray: ‘It’s a tragedy what’s happening in the coal fields…Obama is the greatest destroyer America’s had’
Robert Murray, CEO of Murray Energy.
According to Murray, the Obama administration’s policies are hurting the lowest income families, saying there were about 35,000 jobs lost in the coal industry this year and 60,000 in all.
“It’s a tragedy what’s happening in the coal fields, with the destruction of lives, by Barack Obama, who is the greatest destroyer America’s had. And Mrs. Clinton says ‘I will expand on those policies,’” he said.

Murray, who has been outspoken about Hillary Clinton’s energy policy, also reiterated why her clean energy push is “all about money.”

“She’s getting millions of dollars from the manufacturers of solar panels and windmills…She said these people need this government help. These are the richest billionaires of the country that are kicking in to the Clinton Foundation, to the Clinton campaign, to build windmills and solar panels because it requires a subsidy. Coal stands in the way of that,” he argued.

…CATASTROPHIC: Obama EPA climate reg to cost West Virginia $47 BILLION, 229,000 job years
Testifying before the US Senate Environment Committee, noted economist Eugene Trisko says the government’s own economic multipliers show that EPA’s Clean Power Plan, “would lead to the cumulative loss of $47 billion of [West Virginia] economic output, $11 billion of household income, and 229,000 job years of employment by 2040.”
EUGENE TRISKO: “Applying US Department of Commerce economic multipliers specific to the West Virginia mining sector, we estimate that the EPA carbon rule, and this is just the rule that’s on the books today, would lead to the cumulative loss of $47 billion of state economic output, $11 billion of household income, and 229,000 job years of employment by 2040. A job year is one job held for one year. Even larger losses would occur if an extended Power Plan were adopted along the lines of the Paris Agreement. West Virginia state output could be reduced by a cumulative $60 billion by 2040 along with a $14 billion loss of household income. A total of 288,000 job years of employment would be loss. Clearly, West Virginia can not afford such draconian economic impacts.”

UN Picks former president of Socialist International As New Secretary-General
United Nations Security Council members have chosen former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres as the international body’s next secretary-general.
Guterres previously served as the UN’s high commissioner for refugees before being chosen to head up the whole UN by the 15-member Security Council Wednesday.
But before Guterres worked for the UN, he served as the president of Socialist International (SI), a global network of national socialist parties seeking to establish “democratic socialism” around the world.
SI was formed after World War II, and helped fund socialist movements in Spain and Portugal. In the late 1980s, SI even funded the communist Sandinistas in Nicaragua — a move that flew in the face of U.S. interests.
Guterres also became the leader of Portugal’s Socialist Party in 1992, and then the country’s prime minister when socialists won a major electoral victory in 1995.
Guterres enjoyed widespread popularity in his early years, increasing welfare spending and taxes to cut budget deficits. He was re-elected in 1999, but his popularity crumbled when economic growth stalled and the Hintze Ribeiro Bridge collapsed and killed 59 people.
Socialists suffered a crushing electoral defeat in 2001, and Guterres resigned. He then went to work at SI until 2005 when he joined the UN.

Carbon credit climate scam: the fraud prosecutions begin
…We’re Saved! Massachusetts ‘to fight climate change with sweeping executive order’ – ‘Getting serious about meeting its climate goals’
Gov. Charlie Baker (R) signed an executive order last week directing state agencies to take steps to ensure the state reaches its 2020 emissions reductions goals, study the state’s vulnerability, and plan proactively for climate mitigation.
Baker called the order “an important step to protect public health and safety, local infrastructure, small businesses, and our state’s abundant natural resources” from climate change.
“Combatting and preparing for the impacts of climate change will require a holistic approach across state and local government and collaboration with stakeholders from all corners of the Commonwealth,” he said in a statement.
Earlier this year, a court found the state failed to put in place regulations that would enable it to achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent from 1990 levels by 2020. In 2050, emissions are to be reduced by 80 percent. The state legislature passed the Global Warming Solutions Act in 2008.
“The purpose of [the law] is to attain actual, measurable, and permanent emission reductions in the Commonwealth, and… to ensure that legally mandated reductions are realized by the 2020 deadline,” Justice Robert J. Cordy wrote at the time. The court ordered the state to address these regulations.…

UN Human Rights Office Asks If Economic Freedom Is An “Urgent Threat” To Mankind?
http://lidblog.com/un-human-rights-office-asks-if-economic-freedom-is-an-urgent-threat-to-mankind/
Guest post by Onan Coca Something absolutely NUTS transpired earlier this month when an ignorant leftist tool at the United Nations Human Rights Office got a hold of their Twitter account. Here’s what the UNHR office tweeted back on September 2nd: Hillel Neuer is the executive director of UN Watch, and following his repudiation of their tweet, the UNHR deleted their comment, acting as if nothing had even happened. Neuer had more to say about the episode at the UN Watch’s website. “This was a loony tweet, and it calls into question the judgment of the UN’s top human rights office,” said Neuer. “While millions of people are suffering from genocide, sexual slavery and starvation, it is far from clear why the UN would instead focus its attention on unidentifiable ‘urgent threats,’ let alone on economic subjects about which it has neither competence nor expertise,” said Neuer. “Tellingly, the same UN human rights office has failed to issue a single tweet about this past month’s dire human rights crisis in Venezuela, where millions face mass hunger in part due to attacks on the free market in the failed economic policies of the late president Hugo Chavez and his successor Nicolas Maduro, which included arbitrary seizure of businesses and private property.” “If the UN did not have a strict policy of ignoring its own guaranteed human right to private property, established in Article 17 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, then perhaps Venezuelan mothers would not be struggling to find food for their children.” “Virulent anti-capitalism was a policy of the defunct Soviet Union, but it should not be embraced by the UN body which is supposed to be focused on human rights emergencies.” Most intellectually honest observers of the United Nations understand that the organization is much further to the left than most of the government in the Western world (yes, even the socialist ones), but it is still surprising to see such a flamboyant display of leftist lunacy. Never mind the fact (and yes, it’s a fact) that the United Nations has only survived this long thanks to the Free Market values of the Western world, and to the dollars that those values have generated (particularly from the United States). Never mind the fact that the most urgent threats we face have nothing to do with the free market but arise in nations where the free market is not valued or respected …
