Debate no more! Jailed for scientific dissent?! Twenty climate scientists, including Top UN scientist, call for RICO investigation of climate skeptics in letter to Obama

Top UN scientist Dr. Kevin Trenberth and 19 other scientists have become so tired of debating global warming that they are now apparently seeking to jail those who disagree with them.

One of the scientists who signed the letter was Alan Robock of Rutgers University. Robock has expressed very positive views of Cuba’s Fidel Castro after trips there in 2010 and 2011. Letter to President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, and OSTP Director Holdren

September 1, 2015

Dear President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, and OSTP Director Holdren,

As you know, an overwhelming majority of climate scientists are convinced about the potentially serious adverse effects of human-induced climate change on human health, agriculture, and biodiversity. We applaud your efforts to regulate emissions and the other steps you are taking. Nonetheless, as climate scientists we are exceedingly concerned that America’s response to climate change – indeed, the world’s response to climate change – is insufficient. The risks posed by climate change, including increasing extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and increasing ocean acidity – and potential strategies for addressing them – are detailed in the Third National Climate Assessment (2014), Climate Change Impacts in the United States. The stability of the Earth’s climate over the past ten thousand years contributed to the growth of agriculture and therefore, a thriving human civilization. We are now at high risk of seriously destabilizing the Earth’s climate and irreparably harming people around the world, especially the world’s poorest people.

We appreciate that you are making aggressive and imaginative use of the limited tools available to you in the face of a recalcitrant Congress. One additional tool – recently proposed by Senator …

New studies & data reveal ‘global warming’ NOT behind California drought – Not ‘unprecedented’ – 1970’s droughts blamed on ‘global cooling’

Climate Depot Special Report

The media is once again attempting to portray the current California drought as historically unprecedented. See: Scientists say it’s been 500 years since California has been this dry & Californian water source at 500-year low: “We should be prepared for this type of snow drought to occur much more frequently because of rising temperatures,” lead author Valerie Trouet, a professor at the University of Arizona, said in a statement. “Anthropogenic” –- or manmade –- global warming “is making the drought more severe,” she added.

But recent peer-reviewed studies U.S. government scientists and historical data refute these drought claims.

Two new studies show that global warming is not behind California drought – there is a gigantic warm blob in the Pacific Ocean that is fueling California’s four-year-long drought, and it has nothing to do with global warming. Two new studies released in the journal “Geophysical Research Letters”, explain how this large expanse of warm ocean water is affecting California’s weather as well as the East Coast’s past two brutal winters. Read more here.

NOAA Study: :Causes of Calif. drought natural, not man-made- Dec. 2014 – Natural weather patterns, not man-made global warming, are causing the historic drought parching California, says a study out Monday from federal scientists. “It’s important to note that California’s drought, while extreme, is not an uncommon occurrence for the state,” said Richard Seager, the report’s lead author and professor with Columbia University’s Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory. The report was sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The report did not appear in a peer-reviewed journal but was reviewed by other NOAA scientists. “In fact, multiyear droughts appear regularly in the state’s climate record, and it’s a safe bet that a similar event will happen again,” he said. The persistent weather pattern over the past several years has featured a warm, dry ridge of high pressure over the eastern north Pacific Ocean and western North America. Such high-pressure ridges prevent clouds from forming and precipitation from falling. The study notes that this ridge — which has resulted in decreased rain and snowfall since 2011 — is almost opposite to what computer models predict would result from human-caused climate change. The NOAA report says midwinter precipitation is projected to increase because of human-caused climate change over most of the state. Seager said a low-pressure system, not a high-pressure system, would probably form …

A new record ‘Pause’ length: Satellite Data: No global warming for 18 years 8 months!

The Pause lengthens yet again

A new record Pause length: no warming for 18 years 8 months

By Christopher Monckton of Brenchley

One-third of Man’s entire influence on climate since the Industrial Revolution has occurred since January 1997. Yet for 224 months since then there has been no global warming at all (Fig. 1). With this month’s RSS (Remote Sensing Systems) temperature record, the Pause sets a new record at 18 years 8 months.

Figure 1. The least-squares linear-regression trend on the RSS satellite monthly global mean surface temperature anomaly dataset shows no global warming for 18 years 8 months since January 1997, though one-third of all anthropogenic forcings occurred during the period of the Pause.

As ever, a warning about the current el Niño. It is becoming ever more likely that the temperature increase that usually accompanies an el Niño will begin to shorten the Pause somewhat, just in time for the Paris climate summit, though a subsequent La Niña would be likely to bring about a resumption and perhaps even a lengthening of the Pause.

The spike in global temperatures caused by the thermohaline circulation carrying the warmer waters from the tropical Pacific all around the world usually occurs in the northern-hemisphere winter during an el Niño year.

However, the year or two after an el Niño usually – but not always – brings an offsetting la Niña, cooling first the ocean surface and then the air temperature and restoring global temperature to normal.

Figure 1a. The sea surface temperature index for the Nino 3.4 region of the tropical eastern Pacific, showing the climb towards a peak that generally occurs in the northern-hemisphere winter. For now, the Pause continues to lengthen, but before long the warmer sea surface temperatures in the Pacific will be carried around the world by the thermohaline circulation, causing a temporary warming spike in global temperatures.

The hiatus period of 18 years 8 months is the farthest back one can go in the RSS satellite temperature record and still show a sub-zero trend. The start date is not cherry-picked: it is calculated. And the graph does not mean there is no such thing as global warming. Going back further shows a small warming rate.

The UAH dataset shows a Pause almost as long as the RSS dataset. However, the much-altered surface tamperature datasets show a small warming rate (Fig. 1b).…

Watch: EPA Chief McCarthy: Unless you want to debate cigarettes & cancer, ‘don’t debate about climate change’

Via HarryReadMeFile: Speaking at Resources for the Future, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy tells participants that unless you want to dispute that cigarettes cause lung cancer, then ‘don’t debate about climate change any longer’.

ADMINISTRATOR MCCARTHY: “We are way past any further discussion or debate. Scientists are as sure that humans are causing climate change as they are that cigarette smoke causes lung cancer. So unless you want to debate that point, don’t debate about climate change any longer because it is our moral responsibility to act. That responsibility right now is crystal clear and that is why we have taken action.”

The warmists have it exactly backwards. It is the global warming proponents who are guilty of the tobacco tactics. A new record ‘Pause’ length: No global warming for 18 years 7 months – Temperature standstill extends to 223 months

The Pause draws blood

A new record Pause length: no warming for 18 years 7 months

By Christopher Monckton of Brenchley

For 223 months, since January 1997, there has been no global warming at all (Fig. 1). This month’s RSS temperature shows the Pause setting a new record at 18 years 7 months.

It is becoming ever more likely that the temperature increase that usually accompanies an el Niño will begin to shorten the Pause somewhat, just in time for the Paris climate summit, though a subsequent La Niña would be likely to bring about a resumption and perhaps even a lengthening of the Pause.

Figure 1. The least-squares linear-regression trend on the RSS satellite monthly global mean surface temperature anomaly dataset shows no global warming for 18 years 7 months since January 1997.

The hiatus period of 18 years 7 months is the farthest back one can go in the RSS satellite temperature record and still show a sub-zero trend. The start date is not cherry-picked: it is calculated. And the graph does not mean there is no such thing as global warming. Going back further shows a small warming rate.

The Pause has now drawn blood. In the run-up to the world-government “climate” conference in Paris this December, the failure of the world to warm at all for well over half the satellite record has provoked the climate extremists to resort to desperate measures to try to do away with the Pause.

First there was Tom Karl with his paper attempting to wipe out the Pause by arbitrarily adding a hefty increase to all the ocean temperature measurements made by the 3600 automated ARGO bathythermograph buoys circulating in the oceans.  Hey presto! All three of the longest-standing terrestrial temperature datasets – GISS, HadCRUT4 and NCDC – were duly adjusted, yet again, to show more global warming than has really occurred.

However, the measured and recorded facts are these. In the 11 full years April 2004 to March 2015, for which the ARGO system has been providing reasonably-calibrated though inevitably ill-resolved data (each buoy has to represent 200,000 km3 of ocean temperature with only three readings a month), there has been no warming at all in the upper 750 m, and only a little below that, so that the trend over the period of operation shows a warming equivalent to just 1 C° every …

Watch: Morano on Fox on EPA ‘Climate’ Plan: ‘This is a nonsensical plan when it comes to climate with a lot of economic pain’

Fox Business Host Stuart Varney – ‘Varney & Company’ – August 5, 2015

Varney asks Climate Depot publisher Marc Morano: Obama said we are currently at the “highest level of carbon for 800,000.”

Morano:Studies have shown that 10,000+ years ago levels may have been similar levels.

If you go back further in the geologic record, we have had ice ages with carbon dioxide higher.

There is no correlation with CO2. There are hundreds of factors impacting climate. Technically Obama is correct, but it does not mean anything. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, but it is overwhelmed by other factors and you cannot distinguish CO2’s impact from natural variability whether you are talking temperature, sea level, extreme storms. There is no climate signal when you look at that.

And there is actually a new survey showing that the alleged 97% of climate scientists who endorse Obama’s climate view drops to under 50% when they are asked if CO2 is basically the control knob for the climate. He is wrong in his implication, but he is technically right on his one fact.”

Obama claimed hottest years on record?

Morano:  “No. Right now, the satellite data today shows we are at 18 years 7 months (new record length) the global warming pause has continued. When they claim a ‘hottest year’, they are talking about hundredths of a degree different between these years. The error margin is tenths of a degree. In other words, there is no way they can make the ‘hottest’ year claim scientifically. And they actually admitted it. NASA said there is only a 38% chance of the claim being accurate. The Associated Press had to actually retract these claims of 2014 being the hottest year. It’s statistical nonsense.

We have warmed up until the end of the 20th century and then it stopped since late 1990s. So any claims about it being the hottest years are based on measurements that are immeasurable. You cannot distinguish between years.

NASA’s former lead global warming scientist James Hansen came and said this plan is ‘practically worthless’ and he said ‘you’ve got to be kidding me’. Obama’s own EPA chief admitted it would have no impact on global temperature let alone impacts on global CO2 levels. It’s pure symbolism. So even if you believe Al Gore and Pres. Obama’s science views, this EPA …

Watch Here:

Fox Business: Neil Cavuto: ‘Coast To Coast’ – August 3, 2015

Marc Morano vs. Howard Gould, Renewal Energy Advocate

Selected Excerpts:

MORANO: “The government is now further centrally planning our energy economy. We have already retired more than 200 coal plants. This is gong to hit our energy sector hard and not just in the coal regions.”

MORANO: “It’s going to make energy more expensive across the board. Families are going to suffer. People on fixed incomes. We’ve already had an African-American civil rights leader protesting some of these policies. Some of them have gone after Robert Redford for his supporting policies that would hurt minorities, the poor, seniors on fixed incomes. On the other side, there is no positive climate benefit.
CAVUTO:  “Whatever jobs are lost in the traditional energy sector coal, are being made up for in wind and solar. Do you buy that Marc?”
MORANO: “The EIA (U.S. Energy Information Agency – 2013) estimates that wind is about 4% of our energy and solar is about .25 of one percent! So you are asking for less than 5% of energy to somehow cover all of these carbon based regulations. We have Obama administration officials like White House Science Czar John Holdren who openly talk about cheap energy being a threat or a hazard to a free society.”
MORANO: “We do know one thing that there will be no climate impact form these bills.”
GOULD: “That is completely false. That is completely false.”
MORANO: “The EPA administrator admitted that.” See: EPA Chief Admits Obama Regs Have No Measurable Climate Impact: ‘One one-hundredth of a degree?’ EPA Chief McCarthy defends regs as ‘enormously beneficial’ – Symbolic impact

Watch Now: Morano on BBC TV on Obama EPA climate regs: ‘Even if we faced a climate crisis, these regs would have no impact. It’s pure symbolism’

BBC World News – August 3, 2015 – Climate Depot Publisher Marc Morano

Selected Highlights of Morano’s comments: “Even if we faced a climate crisis, these regulations would have no impact. It’s pure symbolism. Its going to have a huge economic impact, jobs impact and no climate impact. Even warmists’ are saying this is not going to have any impact, that Obama way off base (and not being ambitious enough.)

This is a heavy move forward to central planning to do nothing for the climate. His own EPA chief told Congress that these EPA climate regs would be an immeasurable temperature impact if fully implemented.

If you are worried about global warming, you do have to scratch your head and say ‘Why are they proposing symbolism if we face this great climate catastrophe?’

The GOP has been traditionally very weak when it comes to opposing the climate agenda. But the GOP is poised to make this an issue in 2016 presidential election.

We always talk about ‘tipping points’ in the climate debate. If the Democrats win the White House with a committed global warming agenda. Then I believe global warning skeptics will be possibly been defeated, despite having won every political battle going back decades, not having the UN’s Kyoto Protocol ratified in U.S., defeating cap-and-trade.

If we get a Democrat president in 2016 who goes forward with EPA regs and a UN treaty — which will be signed this Dec. in Paris — then the global warming agenda will take hold in the U.S.

Now, it could always be reversed like it was in Australia, where they had a huge carbon tax and then reversed it.

If a GOP wins in 2016, this could be overturned and most likely will be, but it also depends on which Republican wins, because some of the candidates for GOP presidential nomination are not that strong in opposition to the climate issue.”

Climate of Harassment: EPA sexual ‘predator fed a steady diet of interns’ – Sparks fly as EPA chief under fire at House Hearing

Testifying before Congress today, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy was questioned as to why EPA never made a criminal referral of a male employee who engaged in serial sexual harassment of agency personnel and female interns. The contentious exchange between McCarthy and GOP Congressman Jason Chaffetz of Utah went on for several minutes.

Via: The HARRY READ ME File – Published on Jul 29, 2015

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee – July 29, 2015

The EPA inspector general found that agency employee Peter Jutro “engaged in offensive and inappropriate behavior toward at least 16 women, most of whom were EPA co-workers.” The IG report also found that very senior EPA officials “were made aware of many of these actions and yet did nothing.” Instead of reprimanding Jutro, he was promoted to be Assistant Administrator for the EPA’s Office of Homeland Security where he “engaged in such behavior toward an additional six women,” the IG report said.

At today’s hearing, Chaffetz, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee engaged in a intense debate with McCarthy over the sexual harassment incident.

Chaffetz: “This was a predator who was fed a steady diet of interns. The first time that this should happen he should have been fired, he should have probably been referred to the authorities for criminal prosecution. It happened ten times and you never did that. You still haven’t done that that for this person.”

McCarthy: “…It was handled appropriately.”

Chaffetz: “Appropriately?! He got a promotion, he continued to work there!”

McCarthy: “He was carefully watched…”

Chaffetz: “Watched?! Who’s watching him?! Who’s watching him?!”

McCarthy: “We took prompt action…”

Chaffetz: “You moved his cubicle four spaces away! You think that is appropriate?! What do you say to the mother and father who sent their 24 year old to the EPA, she is starting her career and she’s harassed. Look at her statement. And you did the appropriate thing by moving her four spaces away!?”

Chaffetz: “Why didn’t you refer it as a criminal referral?…”I got two young daughters too.  I would never send them to the EPA t. It is the most toxic place to work that I have ever heard of.”
