Researchers found trees may have been putting similar aerosols into the air as burning fossil fuels, long before the industrial revolution, meaning humans may have had less impact on the climate than we thought.
Scientists made the discovery during an experiment to create an artificial cloud that was thought could help cool Earth and reverse global warming.
A study published this week in the journal Nature has looked more closely at the tiny particles within clouds, known as cloud seeds, that help cool the planet and found they can be produced naturally.
Clouds, including natural ones and those from aerosols, are seen by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as the single biggest source of uncertainty about the so-called human-caused climate change.
The problem stems from not knowing how cloudy the world was before the industrial era, and the fact that some of the gases produced by burning fossil fuels said to warm the plant in the long-term, actually help cool it in the short-term through cloud formation.
But now CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, have left the issue even more confusing after discovering, while creating the fake cloud, that trees could have been putting these aerosols into the atmosphere since they first grew at the time of the dinosaurs.…

- Mark Ruffalo — “But it’s my kids, man,” Ruffalo, 48, said. “I look at my kids, and the thought [of] mass extinction, and I see the change that’s happening with the trees . . .” The guy who was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in 2015’s overrated “Spotlight’’ (but lost), and plays The Hulk/Dr. Bruce Banner in fuel-munching “The Avengers’’ movies, is perhaps the loudest whiner in a celeb-choked pack of environmental zealots — Sean Penn! Robert Redford! The fracking opponent vowed in 2014 to dump his investments in companies he says cause climate change — in three to five years. What’s the hurry?
- President Obama — The Golf-Nut-in-Chief, 54, called reducing greenhouse gases a “powerful rebuke’’ to ISIS (or, as he calls the terror-mongering group, ISIL) before flying aboard Air Force One to the United Nations climate summit outside Paris last year, joining many jet-setting representatives from 195 countries who agreed to lower emissions. According to the most recent estimates, it costs more than $200,000 for an hour of Air Force One flight time. Some or most of that is borne by taxpayers, including to pay for the first family’s vacation jaunts to Hawaii and the prez’s 2013 taping of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’’ in California. The France trip alone was estimated to leave nearly 100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. After his presidency ends on Jan. 20, 2017, Obama is set to move with his family from the White House into a Washington, DC, leased mansion that measures 8,200 square feet and boasts nine bedrooms and 8½ bathrooms, Politico reports. I hope the Obamas remember to switch off the lights when changing rooms.
- Fifty shades of mind control. School board members in Portland, Ore., last week voted unanimously to ban from classrooms books and materials that cast doubt on the existence of climate change. A Los Angeles Times editor banned publishing the views of climate-change “deniers’’ in the newspaper’s Letters to the Editor section, outdoing even warming hysterics at the New York Times.
- Pope Francis — I’m not one to criticize the rock-star leader of the world’s estimated 1.2 billion Roman Catholics. Suffice it to say that the pontiff, 79, has eclipsed the Bozo of Ozone, former US Vice President Al Gore,
Trump Vows to Cut US Funding for UN Climate Programs If Elected
Trump, who used a teleprompter, said that if elected he would kill certain policies including theParis climate agreement, arguing the agreement “gives foreign bureaucrats control over how much our energy and how much we use right here in America.”
In his keynote speech, he argued, “We can’t be sending our money all over the world” and touted that a Trump administration will develop an “America-first energy plan.”
“We’re going to rescind all the job-destroying Obama Executive Actions including the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the United States Rule,” Trump said to applause from the audience.…

President Obama entered into the Paris climate accord “unilaterally and without the permission of Congress,” Trump said.
“This agreement gives foreign bureaucrats control over how much energy we use right here in America,” he said.
His answer to the Paris deal under a Trump administration will be “No way!”
“These actions have denied millions of Americans access to the energy wealth sitting under your feet.”
He also said he would stop all payments to the United Nations’ global warming programs.
The Paris deal is non-binding, but it obliges the U.S. to provide billions of dollars for a fund to help smaller countries cope with the effects of climate change.…

Trump would pursue a mostly standard-issue GOP agenda of “fewer regulations and more fossil fuel production.” More important, with some reporters wondering what Trump’s actual views are on global climate change, he clarified them: He is utterly indifferent to its existence and would roll back the main things we’re currently putting in place to deal with it.
Trump said that the current environmental challenges that the Obama administration is trying to tackle are “phony.” He added that he would “rescind” the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, which would curb carbon dioxide emissions from existing coal-fired power plants, and is key to the U.S.’s ability to meet its commitments as part of the global climate deal. He would withdraw the U.S. from participation in that global accord.
As I’ve reported before, there are complexities that could make it harder than expected for a Republican president — even one as masterfully competent and strong as Trump — to roll back the Clean Power Plan and/or withdraw from the Paris climate deal. But it’s possible that Trump could accomplish one or both of these, which would be a tremendous setback.…
