LEADING CLIMATE SCIENTIST DEFECTS: NO LONGER BELIEVES IN THE ‘CONSENSUS’

One of the world’s most eminent climate scientists – for several decades a warmist – has defected to the climate sceptic camp.

Lennart Bengtsson – a Swedish climatologist, meteorologist, former director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg and winner, in 2006, of the 51st IMO Prize of the World Meteorological Organization for his pioneering work in numerical weather prediction – is by some margin the most distinguished scientist to change sides.

For most of his career, he has been a prominent member of the warmist establishment, subscribing to all its articles of faith – up to and including the belief that Michael Mann’s Hockey Stick was a scientifically plausible assessment of the relationship between CO2 emissions and global mean temperature.

But this week, he signalled his move to the enemy camp by agreeing to join the advisory council of Britain’s Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF), the think tank created by the arch-sceptical former Chancellor Lord Lawson.…

Flashback 1978: Government Experts Said No End In Sight To Global Cooling – Polar Vortex Increasing

In 1978, government experts said the exact opposite of everything government experts say now.

There wasn’t enough data to make conclusions about the southern hemisphere. Government scientists now just make up southern hemisphere data, and report it to 0.01 or 0.001 precision.

Watch Now: Marc Morano on TV explains Obama’s climate report: ‘It’s bastardizing science’ – ‘This is a political report meant to give cover for a political agenda’

Click to watch here.

Excerpts of Morano’s appearance on Sun News TV on May 7, 2014 – ‘Byline’ w/ Brian Lilley:

Climate Depot publisher Marc Morano: “President Obama has been stifled by the GOP Congress. He is facing midterm election where Democrats are fleeing from him. He’s got no domestic agenda. He is trying to play around with some Foreign Policy stuff, but his Sec. of State John Kerry keeps putting his foot in his mouth and causing major distractions.

So what President Obama has left are executive orders on global warming. He is going to use this report as a basis to start action and shutting down coal plants, preventing new ones form coming on line. They have already announced an intention to go after natural gas fracking. They are still delaying the long delayed Keystone pipeline.

Obama can now act to do something about global warming. He doesn’t need ‘no stinking Congress’ as it were.

The report tries to claim that global warming was here and now. And in doing so they really had to twist science on its head. Sarah Palin, the former VP candidate, was (unfairly) ridiculed for implying she could see Russia from her house or from Alaska. Well now they say you can see global warming from your back yard or out your window. It’s bastardizing science.(See: Obama Admin’s John Podesta offers proof of AGW: ‘I’d say that probably look out your window’ )

Because on every major extreme weather measure, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, there is either no trend on 50-100 time scales or there is declining trends. They have basically said every storm now is proof of global warming. And we must ‘act now’ to stop bad weather. As though acts of Congress or our EPA can stop storms.

On sea level, the report is predicting more than 6 and half feet over the next century. That is 11 times the natural rate over the past two centuries and there are actually recent peer reviewed studies showing a deceleration in sea level rise.

This is a political report — predetermined science. They selected lead authors from Nature Conservancy, from Union of Concerned scientists from other environmental groups. They picked other scientists like Katharine Hayhoe and Don Weubbles, people they knew what they were going to write before the report was written.…

Dr. John Christy: Obama’s climate change report ‘does not bring out in clear view for the public to see how poorly climate models have performed’

Obama’s National Climate Assessment is comprised of state-by-state regional climate model projections, however, as noted by Dr. John Christy in this WSJ article today, regional climate models “have no skill” and are far too unreliable to make such predictions.

“some climate scientists said that regional climate models are too unreliable to make these local projections with any certainty. “When looking at the regional results of climate models, as we have done, we find the models have essentially no skill,” said climate scientist John Christy at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, who tracks global temperature trends using satellite sensors. “The models are well off track in demonstrating accuracy in something as basic as the global atmospheric temperature, much less local events,” he said. “Yet the report does not bring out in clear view for the public to see how poorly models have performed.”

Climate Change Is Harming Economy, Report SaysWhite House Says Urgent Action Needed; Report Details Effects in Every StateBy ALICIA MUNDY and COLLEEN MCCAIN NELSON THE WALL STREET JOURNALUpdated May 6, 2014 8:40 p.m. ETA new report from the federal government says changes in the climate are causing harm to Americans and the economy, which has caused billions in damages and will continue to get worse. Alicia Mundy has details. Photo: Getty.Climate change is creating problems for American citizens coast to coast and costing the economy billions of dollars, as extreme weather brings flooding, droughts and other disasters to every region of the country, a federal advisory panel concluded in a report released Tuesday. The congressionally mandated National Climate Assessment, produced by more than 300 experts overseen by a panel of 60 scientists, pins much of the increase in climate change on human behavior. The report says, however, that it isn’t too late to implement policies to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, and calls on governments at all levels to find ways to lower carbon emissions, particularly from energy production. The climate-change report notes a rise in extreme weather events, such as 2012’s superstorm Sandy, shown flooding Mantoloking, N.J.
