‘83% Consensus’?! 285 Papers From 1960s-’80s Reveal Robust Global Cooling Scientific ‘Consensus’
Beginning in 2003, software engineer William Connolley quietly removed the highly inconvenient references to the global cooling scare of the 1970s from Wikipedia, the world’s most influential and accessed informational source.
It had to be done. Too many skeptics were (correctly) pointing out that the scientific “consensus” during the 1960s and 1970s was that the Earth had been cooling for decades, and that nascent theorizing regarding the potential for a CO2-induced global warming were still questionable and uncertain.
Not only did Connolley — a co-founder (along with Michael Mann and Gavin Schmidt) of the realclimate.com blog — successfully remove (or rewrite) the history of the 1970s global cooling scare from the Wikipedia record, he also erased (or rewrote) references to the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age so as to help create the impression that the paleoclimate is shaped like Mann’s hockey stick graph, with unprecedented and dangerous 20th/21st century warmth.
A 2009 investigative report from UK’s Telegraph detailed the extent of dictatorial-like powers Connolley possessed at Wikipedia, allowing him to remove inconvenient scientific information that didn’t conform to his point of view.
“All told, Connolley created or rewrote 5,428 unique Wikipedia articles. His control over Wikipedia was greater still, however, through the role he obtained at Wikipedia as a website administrator, which allowed him to act with virtual impunity. When Connolley didn’t like the subject of a certain article, he removed it — more than 500 articles of various descriptions disappeared at his hand. When he disapproved of the arguments that others were making, he often had them barred — over 2,000 Wikipedia contributors who ran afoul of him found themselves blocked from making further contributions. Acolytes whose writing conformed to Connolley’s global warming views, in contrast, were rewarded with Wikipedia’s blessings. In these ways, Connolley turned Wikipedia into the missionary wing of the global warming movement.“
After eviscerating references to 1970s global cooling scare and the warmer-than-now Medieval Warm Period from Wikipedia, and after personally rewriting the Wikipedia commentaries on the greenhouse effect to impute a central, dominant role for CO2, Connolley went on to team up with two other authors to publish a “consensus” manifesto in 2008 that claimed to exp”ose the 1970s global cooling scare as a myth, as something that never really happened.

Flashback: Experts Blamed ‘Global Cooling’ For The Widespread Droughts Of The 1970s
How Global Cooling Led To The Widespread Droughts Of The 1970s

In October 1974, the NOAA Magazine published this piece by Patrick Hughes about the detrimental effects of 30 years of global cooling (yes, the cooling that warmists insist never happened!)
http://docs.lib.noaa.gov/rescue/journals/noaa/QC851U461974oct.pdf#page=5
We are told that global warming has led to a worse climate, with more extreme weather.
Yet every account seems to bear out that the reverse is true, and that the warming experienced between 1890 and 1940 was actually hugely beneficial.
FOOTNOTE
Discussing Northern Hemisphere temperatures, NOAA state that “the total change has averaged about one half degree Centigrade” since 1940.
Yet, according to HADCRUT smoothed annual averages, the drop is only about 0.2C, between 1940 and 1973. (A simple year on year comparison shows that 1973 was actually slightly warmer than 1940).

NOAA bastardizes science in Louisiana rain modeling study – Climatologists, data, & history refute NOAA’s claims

So I don’t know why NOAA issued such a press release about a new publication without checking with this other team at NOAA.”

25 New Papers Confirm A Remarkably Stable Modern Climate: Fewer Intense Storms, Hurricanes, Droughts, Floods, Fires…
It has by now become common practice for just about any and every unusual weather occurrence, extreme temperature anomaly, or seismic event to be somehow, someway linked to the human practice of using energy derived from fossil fuels. No hurricane, flood, drought, storm, wildfire … is spared from potential anthropogenic implication.
Last week, a named hurricane (Hermine) that ultimately devolved into a tropical storm landed along the Florida coast — the first landfall in 11 years. As expected, the usual suspects reflexively blamed the storm on humans.
When a volcano erupts, the headliners are quick to point out that humans have made volcanic eruptions more likely.
When wildfires consume the landscape, human-caused warming is claimed to be fueling them.
In one year, human-caused warming can be said to be a cause of catastrophic drought in Texas.
“2011 Texas drought was 20 times more likely due to warming, study says”
A few years later, human-caused warming leads to catastrophic flooding in Texas.
Even shifting plates beneath the Earth’s crust (earthquakes) can be creatively connected to human-caused climate change.
Those who may dare to question the link between humanity’s growing oil, gas, and coal consumption and a weather or tectonic event are swiftly called “climate deniers,” and the substantive discussion that never happened (and was never going to happen) ends then and there.
In the 1970s, extreme weather events were blamed on global cooling
Interestingly, in the 1970s it was common for severe weather anomalies (for example, the deadly catastrophic drought plodding throughout the continent of Africa) to be linked to the global cooling occurring at that time. In 1974, NOAA acknowledged that many climate scientists had linked the drought and other extreme weather anomalies to the -0.5°C drop in temperatures that had occurred from the 1940s to 1970s.
“In the Sahelian zone of Africa south of the Sahara, the countries of Chad, The Gambia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Upper Volta are enduring a drought that in some areas has been going on for more than six years now, following some 40 previous years of abundant monsoon rainfall. And the drought is spreading—eastward into Ehtiopia and
Climate Flip-Flop: ‘Global Warming’ Will Now Cause LESS Disease
Climate Change Experts Flip-Flop, Again: Global Warming Will Now Cause Less Disease
Oops. Which is it?
2016 Claim: ‘Warmer climate could lower dengue risk’
2015 Claim: ‘Dengue Outbreaks Increase with Climate Change’
The mountain of failed predictions and significant flip-flops seems to be never-ending when it comes to climate change experts.
For years they predicted (i.e. carelessly speculated) that a warming climate would increase the incidence of the nasty dengue fever disease. (See: Flashback 2011: NYT : ‘In a single article, NYT blames CO2 for allergies, Lyme disease, malaria, dengue fever, extreme weather, asthma, trauma, depression, high blood pressure, & heart disease’)
But now researchers are reporting that the incidence of the disease (and Zika as well) could actually be reduced with warming climate change. (Someone had better tell the AP and Al Gore! See: Associated Press’ Seth Borenstein Links Zika outbreak to global warming – Al Gore Aproves & NYT: ‘Global Warming’ Could Be Causing Malformed Babies In Brazil)
“While climate change generally poses a major threat to humanity, it also may reduce the incidence of dengue in some areas,” said Dr Harley, an epidemiology researcher at the ANU Research School of Population Health. … The findings are also relevant to other mosquito-borne viruses including Zika because the mosquitoes that carry dengue also transmit the Zika virus. … “There is significant concern in countries on the margin of the tropical areas where dengue is mainly found, that with global warming dengue and other mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika will encroach and become common,” Dr Harley said. … “Previous projections have suggested that climate change will increase transmission of mosquito-borne diseases globally. … “Our work, using a mathematical model based on Queensland conditions, suggests that dengue transmission might decrease with greater warming.”
Naturally, this is good news that all global warming alarmists should embrace, with the exception of a single caveat regarding the study that should give pause. This latest flip-flop was based on a computer model, which is quite simply, nothing but simulated research using limited empirical evidence. Previous failed-prediction and peer-reviewed articles.

Climate wanted for murder!? Maryland state senator asks: ‘Did climate change kill two people in Ellicott City?’
Lawmaker: ‘Did climate change kill two people in Ellicott City?’
Erin CoxContact ReporterThe Baltimore Sun
Maryland state senator asks: “Did climate change kill two people in Ellicott City?”
A state lawmaker suggested Monday that climate change could be to blame for the flash-flood that killed two people and destroyed much of historic Ellicott City Saturday night.
“The deaths and damage caused by this weekend’s flash flood in Ellicott City, as well as the damage caused elsewhere, reminds us that climate change is about more than polar bears and the rising sea level in the Chesapeake Bay,” said Sen. James Rosapepe, co-chair of a key environmental subcommittee in the Maryland Senate.
He asked: “Did climate change kill two people in Ellicott City this weekend?”
Rosapepe, a Democrat, said Maryland is ill-prepared to prevent flash-flooding largely because much of its climate change planning focuses on rising sea levels.
He raised that possibility that the once-in-a-thousand-year flooding this weekend was linked to rising global temperatures.
“It would be very naive if we did not see this as part of climate change,” Rosapepe said in an interview. “Those of us who live upland are really impacted by climate change, and this is the perfect example.”
Rosapepe acknowledged science could not prove climate change caused particular flash-flood, but he said the increased frequency of flash-flooding in general is due to climate change and said that is an ongoing public safety problem for the entire state.
“It’s a little bit like terrorism, in that we don’t know what nut-job is going to shoot someone else. But we do know that there are nut-jobs out there that are likely to shoot someone,” he said. “So we have to prepare ourselves.”…

One More Official Exposes Real Goal Of Climate Scare – ‘A $7 trillion investment opportunity’
In recent years we’ve documented the true motivations that are driving the global warming scare.
Christiana Figueres, the executive secretary of United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, who aspires to be U.N. secretary general, has admitted that the goal of environmental activists is to destroy capitalism.
One-time U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Chairman Rajendra Pachauri acknowledged that his “fight” against global warming is his “religion” and “dharma.”
Ottmar Edenhofer, who co-chaired the IPCC working group on Mitigation of Climate Change from 2008 to 2015, has conceded that the climate crusade is an effort to shackle capitalism and establish a global welfare state.
Now we have Bank of England Governor Mark Carney revealing a deeper objective when he talked about how stopping climate change will provide capital markets with as much as a $7 trillion investment opportunity.
Of course his pitch is supposed to sound appealing to capitalists and defenders of the free market. But what good is sinking trillions into investments that are both unnecessary and are unlikely to produce a return?
The carbon trading scheme that was supposed to fuel economic growth while cutting man’s carbon dioxide emissions has turned out to be virtually worthless in Europe. There’s no reason to think Carney’s plot would produce better results.
But it would likely be a lucrative venture for Carney. He “and his banker mates,” Eric Worral writes on the Watts Up With That? blog, “would stand to make a lot of money, out of a vast surge in climate ‘compliance’ activity which would be associated with the new regulations.”
Some might call that “greed.” But to Carney, maybe it’s simply a matter of ensuring domestic tranquility. If his “investment” ideas become reality, then he pleases his wife Diana Fox Carney, who is such an environmentalist zealot that she is almost too easy to make fun of, and he also makes a few extra pounds on the side to add to his central banker’s salary, which is about $1.2 million a year.
