Last world wide drought was in 1934. Since the 1920s deaths from extreme weather has decreased by over 95%.
Markey should not have been permitted to make that claim about last year being “hottest’. That claim was withdrawn by both NOAA and NASA. Both agencies did their own subsequent computation and came up instead with probabilities for which year was “hottest”. But that entire exercise was ludicrous because the difference in annual global temperatures in recent years is MINISCULE, a few hudredths of one degree, so well within the uncertainty error. It is a meaningless comparison. However, if you want to insist that means something, then you must recognize that if that same comparison is made using either of the two satellite datasets, 2014 was 3rd of 6th hottest.
Now think about the “science” behind that initial claim. What real “scientist” would have made such a claim in the first place without also providing the caveats which I (basically a non-scientist) just presented?
There are many other considerations, all casting suspicion on the “scientists” who insist, (like the UN’s IPCC) that human activity is the PRINCIPLE cause of global warming. ) There is nothing close to a 97% agreement with THAT claim. Probably any prudent scientist will shrug and admit that we may have some impact. After all, we all know about Urban Heat Islands.
Remember one cold winter a few years back when Markey accepted a donation of heating oil for his state from Hugo Chavez? Then he proceeded to kiss the dictator’s butt and tell the press what a wonderful guy Hugo was.
Markey’s a statist idiot, not a climate expert. He’s the Massachusetts version of Barbara Boxer.
