Full Text of Paragraph 169 reprinted below:

169. “As far as the protection of biodiversity and issues related to desertification are concerned, progress has been far less significant. With regard to climate change, the advances have been regrettably few. Reducing greenhouse gases requires honesty, courage and responsibility, above all on the part of those countries which are more powerful and pollute the most. The Conference of the United Nations on Sustainable Development, “Rio+20” (Rio de Janeiro 2012), issued a wide-ranging but ineffectual outcome document. International negotiations cannot make significant progress due to positions taken by countries which place their national interests above the global common good. Those who will have to suffer the consequences of what we are trying to hide will not forget this failure of conscience and responsibility. Even as this Encyclical was being prepared, the debate was intensifying. We believers cannot fail to ask God for a positive outcome to the present discussions, so that future generations will not have to suffer the effects of our ill-advised delays.”

Watch Now: Morano on Fox: ‘The Pope sounds a lot like Al Gore’ – There is an ‘unholy alliance’ between Vatican & UN

Marc Morano on Fox – Varney & Co. w/ Stuart Varney – June 17, 2015 – Watch here

Morano: ‘The pope appears to be jumping on the bandwagon just as the evidence to weaken on man-made global warming…On all of these metrics, the case is weakening…It’s one thing for the Pope to have a scientific view that people can disagree on, but it’s completely another thing to time an encyclical and tie it in with a UN global warming treaty. The confusion is going to be Catholic Americans will ask themselves: ‘Hey do i have to support a UN political treaty on global warming? If I don’t , am I not a good catholic?’ It’s sowing confusion. But on the other hand, only 2% of this encyclical appears to be on climate. There are lot of other issues in it. The people touting the Pope’s view on climate are ignoring all of the other issues, life issues, overpopulation, that the Pope is against. The media loves it because he sounds a lot like Al Gore in this encyclical.’

Climate Skeptics Respond to Papal EncyclicalClimate Depot’s Marc Morano: “The Vatican’s partnering with the United Nations climate agenda is nothing short of an unholy alliance. The papal encyclical, no matter how nuanced it may read, will simply be used as a tool to support UN global warming ‘solutions’ that are at odds with most Catholic teachings on issues such as abortion, contraception, overpopulation, and helping the poor nations develop. The Vatican appears to be taking an unprecedented step by seemingly endorsing a specific UN climate treaty.

“Despite the media’s portrayal, this is ultimately not a climate change encyclical, as only 2% of the encyclical deals with climate at all. It is about much more than that, and the irony is that the people who are lauding the pope’s position on climate disagree with just about everything else he stands for. Climate activists who take the time to read the entire encyclical will learn about Catholic teaching on a host of moral issues that they probably have never been willing to listen to before.

“The climate activists are no doubt getting a PR boost from the pope’s entry into the climate debate. But ultimately, the pope’s views on climate science will do little to alter the opinions of Catholics about global warming. As a Catholic, it is my hope that the pope does not take the next step and essentially lobby for a UN climate treaty.”

Pew Poll: Less than half of US Catholics believe climate change is mostly man-made – The survey by the Pew Research Center found 71 percent of U.S. Catholics believed the planet was getting warmer, but less than half, or 47 percent, attributed global warming to human causes. About 48 percent viewed it as a very serious problem. The numbers are similar to the U.S. population overall – 68 percent believe warming is happening, 45 percent say it is caused by humans, and 46 percent see it as a very serious problem.

  1. I’m going to pray for the catholic church.

Bedding Al Gore and Obama et al in the name of scientific legitimacy is a really bad move for an organization with cred issues.

1 fewer catholic here as a result.

  2. The benefits to humans of fossil fuels are infinitely greater than the negatives, in the past, in the present and in the foreseeable future. The extreme environmentalist’s claim disaster awaits if the world doesn’t stop using fossil fuels and reduce its population. Lets put aside the apocalyptic rankings of the global warming crowd whose models and projections have been proven wrong over past decades and discuss human needs around the globe. Billions of our neighbors are in desperate need of food, shelter, clothing, medicine, water, energy, etc.. Marc, thanks for all your great work over the years, telling the truth about AGW. You are right the Pope is late in the game, embracing the UN, Al Gore, his sycophants etc. on their now proven false agenda. What the world needs now is more energy from fossil fuels, not less, to help fulfill the unmet needs of humans around the world.

    1. Can you not see past your nose? It is obvious that the climate change and it’s adverse effects predicted decades ago are upon us. Yea, billions need food and water, and the climate changes will make it increasingly difficult to reliably provide these to the global population. Get off this site and read ANY peer reviewed article on the subject.

      1. Space/time doesn’t permit the listing of the volumes of highly credible info. supporting my opinion. However, I urge you to read, “The Moral case for fossil fuels” by Alex Epstein. Perhaps after you read it (with an open mind) you will have a more informed opinion. In addition you might send your copy to Pope Francis.

    1. The Pope may have opened an ugly Pandora’s Box in the U.S.

Maybe those who have advised him no nothing about the underlying resentment to the Vatican in the U.S. which as been around since the country’s founding. This is not new but very seldom spoken of in public.

But we can hope and pray for the best outcome.

  3. I hope there is a positive outcome at the meeting in Paris too. Didn’t Nasa say that two asteroids are coming very close to the earth?

  4. So the Pope has revealed himself to be just another ranting Marxist. The world is full of them.

I don’t know, I was kinda hoping for something better. How about you?

  5. The pope is simply being consistent with the philosophy of the church and leftist ideologies. Most religions, and the catholic religion in particular, preach sacrifice of the individual as the utmost moral obligation. Islam is no different. According to the church, your life is only meaningful when you give it up for others or for god. This is no different than the religion of “climate change”: we all need to sacrifice our lives for mother earth. Socialism/communism..no different. Sacrifice our personal wealth for “others”. The philosophy is the same. It differs only to whom or what we are to give up our lives for. Mind/body split. In return, those preaching sacrifice (e.g. pope, gore, obama, UN, EU, etc….) in the name of saving earth and humanity get what they are really after-totalitarianism; total control over humanity. That is their goal. Make no mistake; the pope, politicians, eco-activists are all the same and all are looking to inflate their pathetic egos by controlling the rest of us.

  6. Isn’t it Hillariously HYPOCRITICAL when the MYTHICAL seperation church and state VANISHES?! Wonder how the (giggle) athiests feel about this?! The NERVE! hee hee hee

  7. You know that religious people are fake when they meddle themselves in the affairs of the world and instead of heeding the call of their god which is to lead souls to heaven, they call on people to embrace the world or in this case, to call on their faithful to stop breeding.

  8. This is really tragic to see the religious leaders choose the wrong side of this issue. The first thing totalitarian governments do is ban religion. The pope is siding with policies that will greatly increase the power over government over the lives of individuals, and he is teaching people to turn to governments to solve their problems, not god. Does the Pope forget that it was a tyrannical authoritarian totalitarian government that tacked Jesus to a cross? Worst yet, the real science behind global warming proves god has created an absolute masterpiece, and is designed to prevent the catastrophic warming that the alarmists claim. Here is a chart that shows that as the earth warms CO2 traps LESS heat. The peak of Co2 absorption is at 10 microns, to the right of the 15 microns the earth emits, and the CO2 band drops off rapidly and doesn’t trap any heat at temperatures much above the current temperature of the earth. To put it another way, god created CO2 to stop absorbing heat as the earth warms. If the Pope would simply take the time understand the basics of the science he would realize his argument is contrary to the system his god put in place. The Pope is literally claiming that the system his god created has a major flaw in it, and that only man can save it. That is really disappointing. https://noconsensus.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/image0011.gif

  9. Pope Francis calls for people to pray for what he wants, not to pray for God’s guidance. Who was the last Pope that claimed that God changes to suit what the Pope wants?

  10. The Pope turns Lobbyist? Lobbyists spend money to sway opinion, who do you propose
has paid the Pope for his opinion? Maybe being principled in ones beliefs is unfamiliar to you and yours. Keep up the good work. The Prideful Ignorance movement is losing ground, and you are partially responsible. Praise the Lord and pass the Ammo.

  11. The Pope should be more concerned with his ‘LOCAL’ environment first and foremost before going on a global scare the poor folks tour!

  12. Instead of asking God for passage of Climate Treaty, wouldn’t it more expeditious just to ask God to keep this planet cool?
    God is not a middleman.

  13. It is most important to know that this encyclical’s main architect was John Schellnhuber, the rabid de-population fascist nazi who is the point man for the rabid de-population fasist Nazi Prince Phillip….global warming is the vehicle the fascist use to de-industrialize and de-populate the world down to their desired population of 1 to 2 Billion.

    1. DISGUSTING. Are you implying that there is an ulterior motive to this blather-er- etherial inspiration. Perish the thought. Your RATIONAL statements can’t stand up to this Mumbo-Jumbo Hoopla. Get on board or you will be ostracized like GALILEO.

  14. NOW, let us sere. The last GREAT conclusion by a Pope on science was the CERTAINTY that the universe was EARTHCENTRIC (all rotated around the Earth). They gave denier GALILEO hell and damnation. But he is back and the whoopee boys have ADMITTED they were full of beans. This pope is a communist idiot who will do no good. We need another POPE JOHN.XXII.

    1. I admit my ignorance on the chronology of Popes…was Pope John Paul XXII papacy the one that lasted something like 28 days and then he mysteriously died?

  15. The Pope (I don’t mean this current Pope) is going to be the false prophet of the Book of Revelations (Bible). Read it, learn, and be prepared!
