Global Warming Expedition Stopped In Its Tracks By Arctic Sea Ice

A group of adventurers, sailors, pilots and climate scientists that recently started a journey around the North Pole in an effort to show the lack of ice, has been blocked from further travels by ice.

The Polar Ocean Challenge is taking a two month journey that will see them go from Bristol, Alaska, to Norway, then to Russia through the North East passage, back to Alaska through the North West passage, to Greenland and then ultimately back to Bristol. Their objective, as laid out by their website, was to demonstrate “that the Arctic sea ice coverage shrinks back so far now in the summer months that sea that was permanently locked up now can allow passage through.”

There has been one small hiccup thus-far though: they are currently stuck in Murmansk, Russia because there is too much ice blocking the North East passage the team said didn’t exist in summer months, according to Real Climate Science.

Real Climate Science also provides a graph showing that current Arctic temperatures — despite alarmist claims of the Arctic being hotter than ever — is actually below normal.

          4. I don’t know much about the subject, but i know some depth sounders also check temperature. I always wondered do they do it with the echos or do they simply have a thermister probe in the sounder.

            1. Okay, imagine you are in the middle of the Puerto Rico trench there is 18,000ft. of water underneath your boat. The surface temp is 80F.
              So your thermistor reads 80F. 1000ft. below the water temp is 50F.
              Big difference, but with your sonar you won’t ever know because your thermistor reads surface temp. There might be a newer technology that I’m not aware of, but a recording thermometer was lowered in the days when I was on the surface there.

              1. OK, if that’s how they work, it is a huge difference, sounds like the way they take land temps, the stations are always near air ports and near cities so they never get the true average of the earth’s temps because they are always missing the colder data. Likely on purpose.

                  I think they only have like 3000 stations all over the earth.
                  Many, to your point, are located in heat islands.
                  Oh, and for Ocean temps, they use floating buoys and ships passing through the area for surface temps. The problem they identified with that was the ships take the temps from the water used to cool their engines, now they take it before it is used for cooling, but sometimes the discharge of the warmer water contaminates the temp readings. I just heard about the last month.
                  Anyhow, I’m not going to lose any sleep over the whole nonsense, it is just designed to force industrialized countries to pay non-industrialized countries a chunk of change, so that we get poorer, and those other countries get richer…..
                  The UN has even admitted to that, yet the Al Gore’s of the world keep banging the drum.

  58. When I was a kid scientists were working on a blanket to cover large areas of land to keep them warm. Yes in the 50s and 60s global cooling was the issue. Since then I have learned about the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and how it is the main factor influencing the weather here in Southern California. But contrary to popular liberal belief the earth is cooling, we are only about 10K years from the next ice age.
