McPherson lives in ‘a straw house in the middle of the woods surrounded by animals.’

McPherson: ‘I think we are walking around to save our own funeral expenses at this point. We have triggered 39 self-reinforcing feedback loops. Those things feed on themselves and feed on each other as well.’

‘The only way to stop runaway climate change is to terminate industrial civilization. The evidence is clear on that front and it is in the refereed journal literature.’

Q: Can we buy extra time? McPherson answers: ‘What we can do is enjoy and create moments of joy while we are here…humans will reach the end of the line in a relativity short time’

    1. He is not a loon. The good citizens of Arizona are loons for paying for this guy’s salary. I don’t understand why there isn’t a citizen’s uprising against public universities, that pay for this obnoxious junk.

  1. Exactly what is the difference global warming may decimate the worlds population but terminating the the industrial civilization would doom millions to death from starvation and disease how in the world does he expect to feed and cloth the majority of the worlds population that live in cities and couldn’t grow weeds.

  2. It’s unfortunate that we are just not getting it, and I happen to agree with Professor McPherson. We continue with business as usual with total disregard for the environment. The environment shapes us, feeds us, takes care of us. The profits from business as usual will not do that. We need greater education, awareness, and above all prepare for climactic events that have been unprecedented, not in 50 years, but in 5 or 10 years time. We have the technology to do things sustainably, responsibly, and get people out of poverty. We can do better – we can rise above this, live simpler and more natural lives, to take care of all of us (and all species) in an equitable fashion. Are we not smart enough as a race to do this?

    1. Unfortunately for you, there hasn’t been anything unprecedented about the weather as of late, other than hysterical claims. Anyone who looks seriously into drought and hurricanes and floods, finds they are either same as they ever were, or declining in scope.

I highly doubt in 5 – 10 years time we will have to worry about great heat induced storms. In fact, the globe will probably cool enough in that time so we have harsh winters – but we are not being warned, because the Weather services of the world are jumbling with the temperature numbers so much, to show warming, that we don’t see the real cooling trend.

  3. I wonder if this person is living without the rewards of an industrial civilization ie grows his own food, generates his own electricity by some means that doesn’t use electro-mechanical device, uses natural products for heat and AC, rides an animal not a car, i don’t know how he has a computer that is not produced by industry and the list goes on. He sounds more like the cult that is sure the world is going end tomorrow

    1. Looking at his picture, I am sure that he did not weave that shirt and jacket. That trophy behind him came either from a metal mine or an oil well (plastic).

    2. Psst, generating your own electricity, is part of an industrial civilization – can’t have any of that now. He must collect the sap from trees, and use it to create candles.

  4. If a doctor claims to be a weight loss specialist but is an obese glutton, you may not want to buy his diet book. If a self-proclaimed environmentalist claims that CO2 is destroying the world, but he is still flying jets all over the world to sell his book — well, you can figure out how much credence to give him.

For goodness sake, people! The man is not a real scientist. He is just an author in the fear-porn business.

      1. Yeah, many years ago when ice melted… was because of industrialization? Or was it because, the solar system itself has its cycles? Don’t bullshit me, this is fear mongering, so we can get those emissions taxes like we have here in portugal, this is nothing but a big spam scam with useless eaters like that asshole running his mouth off spewing a bunch of bullshit that not even science itself, supports.
So save it! I had enough like many others!
Don’t push your mainstream bullshit propaganda, fu and that nobody.

  5. i think i might write a book on how you too can live in ‘a straw house in the middle of the woods surrounded by animals.’ fly around the world, spew nonsense and earn a fortune.

    Should sell well.

    1. Yap, and it would still be irreversible, so, screw this global warming bullshit and that humans are responsible, forget it.
There was this study that said co2 cools the atmosphere, so this asshole can cook himself to release co2…or idiotic poisonous gases.

  6. Stupidity of this level is almost painful. The thing is, we all know Mann, Hanson, and Jones know their theories are BS. This dimwit, however, seems to truly believe the utter nonsense coming out of his own mouth. It’s an interesting side debate as to which one is more dangerous.

  7. Climate change is always irreversible as we have no affect on it one way or the other. All we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride. Unfortunately for the good doctor, he apparently does not believe that humans are capable of adapting to their environment, something they have been doing successfully for tens of thousands of years. I guess we have become stupider due to our manipulation of natural selection.

    1. Hey, the moron doctor will die from heart attack if he keeps believing in it that much, but the rest of humans, pfff, no big deal.
We have been around for quite a while, going through hard times and weather conditions, hell! I take cold showers every god damn day, and guess who gets sick? The morons who get vaccinated and have hot showers and other 21th habits, meaning that, when everyone is sick, i’m fine like a mercedes, so… don’t buy the nonsense, folks, we have been around for quite a while and…wait a minute… if it is irreversible, then why would we want to terminate industrialization? Oh yeah, so humans can die faster and everything stays the same..
      Doctor, go fuck yourself.

  8. The bizarre thing is, he wants to basically kill everyone to save us from global warming, “terminate industrial civilization,” and yet he is a grief counselor.

He must do an excellent job as a grief counselor with such a pessimistic outlook. Eh, so you’re sad, go kill yourself, you will feel good about saving the planet.

  9. The Chosens are behind this. It’s all about debilitating the white race and the West as part of “de-nazification”. After all, it wasn’t primitive injuns who put them into the mythical gas chambers. It was the most advanced industrial country on earth. Never again!

  10. About Professor emeritus Guy McPherson… seriously, people like him are suffering from mental illness.

I now invite readers to examine the past, about how, for at least at least 114 years, climate “scientists” have been claiming that the climate was going to kill us… but have kept switching whether it was a coming ice age or global warming:

    Enjoy!

  11. Dear Professor McPherson:

For the last 600,000,000 years temperatures have hovered around 12C about 14% of the time, around 22C about 50% of the time, and somewhere in between 36% of the time. Right now we are at 14.5C, about 25% above the bottom of the historical range. The reason these upper and lower limits are interrupted is due to the passage of our Solar System thru the Miilky way’s spiral arms. This causes increasing and decreasing exposure to Galactic Cosmic Rays, which affect our temperature by this 10C spread.

The 0.4C rise in temperature since the Industrial Revolution (IR) pales in comparison to the 1.6C increase of the Medieval Warming Period (WP), the 2.5C increase of the Roman WP, and the 3.2C increase of the Minoan WP using the IR as a baseline. The average temperature has been declining for the last 6,000 years.

About 550,000,000 years ago CO2 was 7,000 ppm, over 17 times higher than today.

Look to historical data older than the 56 years of CO2 measurements at Mauna Loa and educate yourself.

  12. We speak of “psychosis” or of someone having a “psychotic break” only when violence is involved. I wonder if there is such a state for people who otherwise seem fine, who have (mostly) good social interaction skills and self-awareness.

Grossly delusional behaviour appears to be defined as behaviour that is self-destructive AND dangerous to others. Is it possible that grossly delusional behaviour is possible in someone like this author, or like Paul Erhlich or the present-day Marxists who are unable, truly unable to recognize that what they say does not match how the world works on a fundamental level?

Mental illness might be more properly said to be when reality cannot get through. When you live in a straw house in a field surrounded by animals but are still part of the industrialized Western civilization, there is a strong scent of disconnect about you. Cognitive discordance is just one term that might be applicable.

  13. The real issue gentlemen is that until the right regains control of our academia, we are going to continue to have these wiery -beardy anoraks spouting their garbage and indoctrinating all who attend their lectures.

  14. Great example of the “IvoryTower” phenomenon. You certainly don’t need to have much common sense to earn a PhD at some schools these days. What makes this clown think that, even if CAGW was real, people are going to just voluntarily give up the comforts of the industrialized world? Rather than coming up with such simplistic nonsense, why not develope a well-reasoned plan that seeks to help industrial civilization adapt to a warmer world? The fact that no such plan is forthcoming shows that this guy actually has a different agenda from saving the Earth. He’s just another watermelon, green on the outside; red on the inside.

  15. I do think climate change is deadly, deadly serious, and that it may destroy civilization within this century. However, to assume that all humans will be dead within a few decades seems a bit far fetched.
One thing we should keep in mind is that McPherson is an ecologist, not a climatologist. We should also be careful to give credence to the opinion of one person. The best climate data comes from groups of researchers working together–research teams and reports aggregated from work done in a number of fields, including ecology, climatology, atmospheric chemistry and physics, etc.
McPherson is, in some sense, a research aggregator. He is not a stupid man. Quite the contrary. But much of his work was done on grasslands/savannahs and natural resource management. He has no experience publishing on climatology and other salient disciplines. I would take his ideas with a grain of salt.
