Fake News: #ExxonKnew Campaign In LA Times Claims ‘Global Warming’ Caused 1989 Exxon Valdez Spill – Point By Point debunking

How irrelevant and desperate has the #ExxonKnew campaign become? Well, they’re now claiming that global warming caused the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill, and that Exxon should have known it would happen. The claims were made in yet another article written by graduate students at the Columbia Journalism School, which was published today in the Los Angeles Times.

The article – fit more for The Onion than the LA Times – claims that ExxonMobil had evidence that the Columbia Glacier was calving due to climate change, but allowed one of its tankers to put itself in the way of the icebergs anyway.

Anyone who has ever followed the story knows that the only ice responsible for the Exxon Valdez spill would be the ice cooling the captain’s many cocktails that night. But for anti-Exxon campaigners, no alternate theories (or should we say alternative facts?) are too outrageous to publish.

For background, this is the LA Times’ latest installment of a series authored by graduate students at the Columbia School of Journalism, who were bankrolled by wealthy anti-fossil fuel foundations such as the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF) and Rockefeller Family Fund (RFF). The school’s dean, Steve Coll, also wrote an anti-Exxon book, Private Empire, while serving as President of the New America Foundation, which – surprise! – is also funded by the Rockefellers.

And yes, this is the same group that was criticized last week by a federal judge who said the Columbia School of Journalism and InsideClimate News (which is also funded by the Rockefellers and wrote its own anti-Exxon series) were “trying to pursue the same climate change policy agendas” as the attorneys general who have launched investigations into ExxonMobil.

Now why would the LA Times, which presumably wants to be seen as an objective news outlet, print such obviously paid-for (and ridiculous) “journalism”?

Perhaps it has to do with money. Recall that the LA Times failed to disclose that the original #ExxonKnew series it published in late 2015 was funded by the Rockefellers. It only did so months after other news outlets discovered the lack of disclosure. Even the Columbia Journalism Review said not disclosing this funding was a mistake, noting “the rollout after publication was botched. While this particular misstep occurred on the most contentious of stories, the question of when and how to disclose funding for such

Queer Climate Activists Twerk on Ivanka Trump’s Front Lawn

By Ashley Rae Goldenberg |

Gay rights advocates danced in front of Ivanka Trump’s Washington, D.C. residence on Saturday to “WERK for Mother Earth” as part of the Queer Dance Party for Climate Justice (warning: strong language).

The event, hosted by Queer Resistance, WERK for Peace, 350 DC, and the Trans Women of Color Collective, gathered over a hundred people to protest against the Trump administration allegedly “rolling back environmental regulations” and “revok[ing] protections for LGBTQ government employees.”

Lourdes Ashley Hunter, the executive director of the Trans Women of Color Collective told the crowd “Dance is a language of revolution,” and to “Get ready to twerk. F*** up her (Ivanka’s) lawn.”

“I got one more thing to say,” Hunter added before telling the crowd to stay warm and dance, “F**k the police! F**k the motherf**king police!”

According to the event description on Facebook, the organizers take offense to Ivanka having been described as the “BFF of the gays,” even though she reportedly helped stop the Trump administration from enacting an executive order regarding federal LGBTQ protections.

Her father, President Donald Trump, championed gay rights at the Republican National Convention, held the gay pride flag high during a speech, said transgender icon Caitlyn Jenner can use any restroom she chooses, and is the first president to be inaugurated supporting gay marriage.…

March For Science To Bill Nye, The Science Guy: Take A Back Seat, You’re White.

The March for Science, scheduled for April 22, was planning to have Bill Nye, the Science Guy, function as the event’s first honorary co-chair, but then made a startling discovery.

Nye is white.

That did it; complaints mounted that the event was not featuring people of color, and voila! As Buzzfeed reports, “Mona Hanna-Attisha, the pediatrician who first exposed dangerous lead poisoning among the mostly poor black kids in Flint, Michigan, and Lydia Villa-Komaroff, a molecular biologist famous for helping to figure out how to get bacteria to make insulin,” were added to the list.

Forget the fact that Nye isn’t even a scientist; Stephani Page, a biophysicist at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill who was invited to the march’s board after she questioned its commitment to diversity, fulminated, “I love Bill Nye. But I do feel comfortable saying to you what I said to the steering committee: He is a white male, and in that way he does represent the status quo of science, of what it is to be a scientist.” Page added that adding the two women “was an opportunity to put up a picture of science that did not just fit the white male image.”

The march’s lead organizer, Jonathan Berman, admitted, “We did talk internally about the optics of having the first person to be announced be only a white man.”…

Michael Moore calls Trump’s actions on climate change ‘Declaration of War’

Filmmaker Michael Moore is continuing to speak out against President Trump.

In an interview with the Huffington Post on Friday, Moore commented on Trump’s recent actions that many critics say reverse much of the work done by the previous administration on addressing climate change.

Moore said, “For him to tear up every single regulation instituted by President Obama on climate change and for him to say that that will no longer be a concern when they make their decisions, is not just a f**k you to the rest of this world, but it’s a declaration of war against the actual planet.”…

PANIC: NYT Melts Down Over Trump ‘Denialists’ ‘Risking the Planet’

By Scott Whitlock | March 29, 2017 | 1:50 PM EDT

The New York Times on Wednesday offered a collective freak out, devoting no less than four articles to how the “denialists” in the Trump administration are “risking the planet” by rolling back Barack Obama’s climate regulation. That amounted to almost 4000 words. Jettisoning any pretense of objectivity, the liberal paper included this biased headline: “Climate Change Denialists in Charge.” Writer Coral Davenport warned, “Climate denial starts at the top.”

Calling skeptics “deniers” is the type of loaded term that the New York Times would never throw around when it comes to liberal causes. Are pro-abortion liberals life- deniers? In an op-ed, the paper warned of coming doom: “Only 10 weeks into his presidency, and at great risk to future generations, Donald Trump has ordered the demolition of most of President Barack Obama’s policies to combat climate change by reducing emissions from fossil fuels.”

The paper described it as an “assault” and then shifted to Trump’s “ignorance”:

Perhaps most important, Mr. Trump’s ignorance has stripped America of its hard-won role as a global leader on climate issues.

<<< Please support MRC’s NewsBusters team with a tax-deductible contribution today. >>>

The unsigned editorial moved to “madness”:

Are there ways to avert this madness? Yes. Mr. Trump’s orders will not take effect right away. The E.P.A. will need a year or longer to develop a replacement for the Clean Power Plan.

“Demolition, “assault,” “ignorance,” “madness.” The Times on Wednesday reads like an angry e-mail that someone accidentally sent to the whole office.

But that wasn’t enough, the front page article by Mrs. Davenport and writer Alissa J. Rubin sounded apocalyptic:

President Trump, flanked by company executives and miners, signed a long-promised executive order on Tuesday to nullify President Barack Obama’s climate change efforts and revive the coal industry, effectively ceding American leadership in the international campaign to curb the dangerous heating of the planet.

Tom Friedman was no less worried. The headline for his op-ed sneered, “Trump Is a Chinese agent.” The liberal columnist raged:

Trump took his Make China Great campaign to a new level on Tuesday by rejecting the science on climate change and tossing out all Obama-era plans to shrink our dependence on coal-fired power. Trump also wants to weaken existing mileage requirements for U.S.-made vehicles. Stupid.

Liberals Claim Trump ‘Signed Death Warrant for Planet Earth,’ Began ‘Extinction of Human Life’

By Craig Bannister | March 28, 2017 | 4:46 PM EDT
Pres. Donald Trump signs executive order.

As soon as President Donald Trump signed an executive order to eliminate climate-related environmental regulations burdening the U.S. energy industry, liberals pounced on the chance to declare the end of life as we know it.

“The extinction of human life on Earth” has begun, liberal filmmaker Michael Moore Tweeted, claiming that historians will soon look back on this day and blame Trump’s executive orders for their demise:

Moore was widely mocked on Twitter for saying humans will be extinct, but human historians would still be alive to blame their extinction on Trump.

Former environmental advisor to President Barack Obama, Van Jones, used Twitter to declare that Trump had just signed the planet’s “death warrant.”

And, Rep. Darren Soto (D-Florida) took to Twitter to claim that his entire state – including Trump’s Mar-a-lago club – will soon be submerged:

Hiccup! Former Obama EPA Chief admits she has turned to the bottle to cope as Trump guts climate regs

Ex-Obama team distressed as Trump guts climate regs

Hundreds of people in the Obama administration spent years building the climate change regulations that the president hoped would mark a lasting turning point in the nation’s response to global warming. But it took only a couple of months for President Donald Trump to start wiping them out.

That stunning course shift has left former Obama environmental officials and diplomats frustrated and upset — if not surprised.
“From the moment the election became clear, all of us had the months and years of work that we had done flash before our eyes,” said Christy Goldfuss, who served as former President Barack Obama’s top environmental adviser as the leader of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
For Gina McCarthy, who led EPA when it issued its landmark greenhouse gas restrictions for power plants, it was no shock that Trump would seek to undo Obama’s climate regulations by using the same executive power that had gone into their creation. But she said she’s stunned at how fast Trump is moving.
“The approach they’re taking is really a slash-and-burn approach,” she told POLITICO.
“I really honestly don’t know what dragon they’re trying to slay here,” McCarthy added. “I really don’t. If they’re saying EPA has done something illegal, then let the courts decide that. If they think that EPA is anti-economy, then show me some data that shows that.”
McCarthy, who returned to her native Boston after the White House handover, admitted that she has turned to one of her city’s tried-and-true methods of coping with frustration: “We drink a lot of coffee during the day and other things at night. And night comes earlier and earlier.”

Michael Moore: Human ‘Extinction’ Begins With Trump Reversing EPA Climate Regs

http://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/business/james-powers/2017/03/28/michael-moore-human-extinction-begins-trump-reversing-clean

By James Powers | March 28, 2017 | 4:25 PM EDT

Michael Moore is known for spewing outlandish, liberal drivel, but he turned apocalyptic as a reaction to the overthrow of former President Obama’s energy plan. (See tweet here.)

Moore: ‘Historians in the near future will mark today, March 28, 2017, as the day the extinction of human life on earth began, thanks 2 Donald Trump’

President Donald Trump signed an executive order into law March 28, to begin rolling back Obama’s Clean Power Plan. The plan included many regulations affecting domestic energy production.

The propagandist filmmaker immediately lashed out on Twitter condemning Trump’s actions.

According to the Associated Press, the executive order “will suspend, rescind or flag for review more than a half-dozen measures in an effort to boost domestic energy production in the form of fossil fuels.”

In the past, Moore attacked Trump and his followers and has said any person who votes for Donald Trump is a “legal terrorist.” In a rally near the White House on Jan. 19, Moore also told the crowd that the “terrorists are about three blocks away.”…

Al Gore Adds Brexit To The ‘Stupid Things Blamed on Climate Change’ List

Perhaps it’s because most of the calamities predicted in the first movie didn’t happen, hurricanes didn’t increase in frequency and strength, polar ice caps didn’t melt, NY and other coastal cities aren’t underwater,   Mt. Kilimanjaro still is snow-capped, tornadoes aren’t increasing in frequency and strength, the arctic isn’t melting, the Antarctic ice extent is growing, oh and the polar bear population is doing very well thank you. So former VP Al Gore wants to try another movie. He didn’t however take my suggestion and call the movie, “More Crap That Wont Happen.” The inventor of the internet did come up with something new and creative, he blamed Brexit on Climate Change, so it gets added to the “Stupid things blamed on climate change” list.

His latest theory is that climate change caused the British Brexit vote:

“One of the lines of investigation [scientists] have been pursuing has led them to the conclusion that significant areas of the Middle East and North Africa are in danger of becoming uninhabitable

“And, just a taste of this, to link it to some of the events that the UK and European Union are going through – think for a moment about what happened in Syria.

On the bright side, Gore’s claim that Brexit was caused by climate change becomes #64 on

The Problem With Climate Catastrophizing – The Case for Calm

Excerpts:
Climate change may or may not bear responsibility for the flood on last night’s news, but without question it has created a flood of despair. Climate researchers and activists, according to a 2015 Esquire feature, “When the End of Human Civilization is Your Day Job,” suffer from depression and PTSD-like symptoms. In a poll on his Twitter feed, meteorologist and writer Eric Holthaus found that nearly half of 416 respondents felt “emotionally overwhelmed, at least occasionally, because of news about climate change.”

Eric Holthaus

Do you feel emotionally overwhelmed, at least occasionally, because of news about climate change? Why/why not?

For just such feelings, a Salt Lake City support group provides “a safe space for confronting” what it calls “climate grief.”

Panicked thoughts often turn to the next generation. “Does Climate Change Make It Immoral to Have Kids?” pondered columnist Dave Bry in The Guardian in 2016. “[I] think about my son,” he wrote, “growing up in a gray, dying world—walking towards Kansas on potholed highways.” Over the summer, National Public Radio tackled the same topic in “Should We Be Having Kids In The Age Of Climate Change?” an interview with Travis Rieder, a philosopher at Johns Hopkins University, who offers “a provocative thought: Maybe we should protect our kids by not having them.” And Holthaus himself once responded to a worrying scientific report by announcing that he would never fly again and might also get a vasectomy.

Such attitudes have not evolved in isolation. They are the most intense manifestations of the same mindset that produces regular headlines about “saving the planet” and a level of obsession with reducing carbon footprints that is otherwise reserved for reducing waistlines. Former U.S. President Barack Obama finds climate change “terrifying” and considers it “a potential existential threat.” He declared in his 2015 State of the Union address that “no challenge—no challenge—poses a greater threat to future generations.” In another speech offering “a glimpse of our children’s fate,” he described “Submerged countries. Abandoned cities. Fields that no longer grow. Political disruptions that trigger new conflict, and even more floods
