Presented to the UN Climate Summit in Marrakech, Morocco – November 2016
Key climate data highlights:
  • Global temperatures have been virtually flat for about 18 years, according to satellite data, and peer-reviewed literature is now scaling back predictions of future warming
  • The U.S. has had no Category 3 or larger hurricane make landfall since 2005 – the longest spell since the Civil War.
  • Strong F3 or larger tornadoes have been in decline since the 1970s.
  • Despite claims of snow being ‘a thing of the past,’ cold season snowfall has been rising.
  • Sea level rise rates have been steady for over a century, with recent deceleration.
  • Droughts and floods are neither historically unusual nor caused by mankind, and there is no evidence we are currently having any unusual weather.
  • So-called hottest year claims are based on year-to-year temperature data that differs by only a few HUNDREDTHS of a degree to tenths of a degree Fahrenheit – differences that are within the margin of error in the data. In other words, global temperatures have essentially held very steady with no sign of acceleration.
  • A 2015 NASA study found Antarctica was NOT losing ice mass and ‘not currently contributing to sea level rise.’
  • In 2016, Arctic sea ice was 22% greater than at the recent low point of 2012. The Arctic sea ice is now in a 10-year ‘pause’ with ‘no significant change in the past decade.
  • Polar bears are doing fine, with their numbers way up since the 1960s.

Introduction:

CO2 is not the tail that wags the dog. CO2 is a trace essential gas, but without it life on earth would be impossible. Carbon dioxide fertilizes algae, trees, and crops to provide food for humans and animals. We inhale oxygen and exhale CO2. Slightly higher atmospheric CO2 levels cannot possibly supplant the numerous complex and inter-connected forces that have always determined Earth’s climate. As University of London professor emeritus Philip Stott has noted: “The fundamental point has always been this. Climate change is governed by hundreds of factors, or variables, and the very idea that we can manage climate change predictably by understanding and manipulating at the margins one politically selected factor (CO2), is as misguided as it gets.” “It’s scientific nonsense,” Stott added. Even the global warming activists at RealClimate.org acknowledged this in a September 20, 2008 article, stating, “The actual temperature rise is …

Morano at UN Climate Summit in Morocco Day 1: Clexit, Trump & A ‘Feminist Fossil Free Future’ promoted

Marrakech, Morocco –

Climate Depot has arrived at UN climate summit in Morroco to spread Trump message of Clexit .

The UN seems to have high opinion of its abilities. Actual headline at Climate summit in Morroco: ‘World Meets in Marrakesh To Save Earth’

UN climate summit: When you meet in Morocco to talk about going carbon free– make sure you have plenty of A/C units running at max capacity

Economic message at UN climate summit in Morroco: ‘No jobs on a dead planet’ – – So empower the UN to centrally plan the world!

Say what?! A ‘Feminist Fossil Free Future’ promoted at UN climate summit in Morroco

Morano (Dis) Honored Again! Named #2 on ‘TOP 10 CLIMATE DENIERS’ list by DiCarpio & National Geographic

A colorful cast of characters has made a living out of denying the science of climate change. These so-called “experts” often start out their statements with “I’m not a climate scientist, but…” before launching into a series of carefully rehearsed talking points meant to confuse the public on the climate change issue…

Below is a list of ten of the most prominent climate deniers working actively to mislead the public and delay policy action to address climate change.

SEN. JAMES INHOFE

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. According to Oil Change International, Inhofe has received over $2 million in political contributions from the fossil fuel industry. He once compared the Environmental Protection Agency to the Gestapo, and brought a snowball onto the Senate floor to ‘disprove’ global warming. Sen. Inhofe, author of the 2012 book The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, once claimed on the Senate floor that “man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.”

‘Climate Hustle’ film debuts at EU Parliament in Brussels – EU Hosts Morano & Producer Chris Rogers

Roger Helmer EU MEP & United Kingdom Independence Party & Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group continued:

While the movie covered much ground that I found familiar, I personally found it hugely encouraging – not least the number of interviews with highly qualified climate scientists like, Judith Curry , who started out accepting the scientific “consensus” uncritically, but were prompted to take a closer look by the evident contradictions in the orthodoxy, and switched to a sceptical position – despite the damage that involved for their careers.  They deserve our respect.

Given my own experience as a (fairly) lone voice in the climate debate in the EP, the movie’s affirmation of my own views was hugely encouraging, and I am grateful to Marc Morano and to Climate Depot for coming to Brussels.…

New ecology book: 25 MYTHS THAT ARE DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT

Veteran Yale University research ecologist Dr. Dan Botkin has a new book coming out tomorrow (Saturday 15 October) that you might want to look at:

A number of chapters are relevant to polar bears, including these three:

“Myth 11: Without Human Interference, Earth’s Climate is Stable”

“Myth 13: Climate Change Will Lead to Huge Numbers of Extinctions”

“Myth 25: Compared to Climate Change, All Other Environmental Issues Are Minor”

I found the book clearly written in a readable style (Table of Contents here). It provides timely insight into critical issues related to conservation and species extinction, with many real-world examples that counter theoretical assumptions (polar bears are discussed in the Overview). I found the energy issues (Myths 23 and 24) an awkward distraction but others might find them of interest. It’s a good companion to Bjorn Lomborg’s The Skeptical Environmentalist (an excellent reference from 2001 but much more detailed).

Pre-0rders now being taken:

Twenty-five Myths That Are Destroying the Environment: What Many Environmentalists Believe and Why They Are Wrong. Daniel B. Botkin 2017. Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc., Lanham, MD 20706. $12.71 PAPERBACK; $7.51 KINDLE

Peak inside via Amazon, more about Dan Botkin and his publication record, and the book below.

Dan has done some important background work relevant to polar bears, walrus, and Arctic seals. He and colleagues reconstructed sea ice data for the period 1850-1910 in the Bering and Chukchi Seas from whaling records (as well as estimating bowhead whale and walrus pre-slaughter population sizes for the western Arctic)(see Bockstoce and Botkin 1982, 1983; Mahoney et al. 2011). Companion data to the Mahoney et al. paper on Bering/Chukchi sea ice is here (other related papers here).

In addition, Dan and a host of prominent specialists co-authored a critical ecology paper entitled “Forecasting the Effects of Global Warming on Biodiversity” (Botkin et al. 2007).

The blurb about the new 25 Myths book is copied below:

Daniel B. Botkin is an ecologist who has been conducting and writing about ecological research for 45 years. After hearing so many false or flawed statements passed off as fact, he decided to write this book to give readers a more complete understanding of their environment.

For decades, environmental scientist and conservationist Daniel B. Botkin has studied the world around us. He has traveled the globe observing nature and the human impact on the environment, and now

Roger Helmer MEP to host screening of ‘Climate Hustle’

Published Oct 12, 2016

Roger Helmer MEP has organised a special screening of the highly-acclaimed film Climate Hustle. He said: “The film takes apart the case for ‘catastrophic global warming’ and exposes the lies, exaggerations and misinterpretations which underlie the new religion of ‘warmism’.”

The“Climate Hustle” film was created by Climate Depot, the US think-tank and advocacy group and Mr Helmer has arranged a screening of it in Brussels next week, Wednesday, October 19, at 3pm. The event will be open to visitors and anyone interested can pre-register at [email protected]. Those attending should should arrive an hour beforehand, to allow for the Parliament’s extensive registration and security procedures.

Roger Helmer said: “We have Marc Morano, perhaps the most prominent campaigner against climate alarmism, and a co-author of the film, attending the event. He will speak and take questions. If you ever thought 97 per cent of scientists back ‘warmism’, or that we’re about to cross a catastrophic tipping point, or that the human race will be reduced to a few thousand people scraping an existence at the South Pole, this film will reassure you.”

About Marc Morano:

Marc Morano, the award-winning host of Climate Hustle, is one of the highest profile voices of climate realism in the world today. He currently serves as executive editor and chief correspondent for CFACT’s award-winning ClimateDepot.com, a news and information service he founded in 2009. He is a frequent guest on radio and television talk in the U.S. and internationally, including CNN, Fox News, the BBC, and Canada’s Sun TV, and has been profiled in the New York Times, Esquire magazine, Rolling Stone, and numerous others. From 1992 to 1996, Morano served as a reporter for the nationally syndicated “Rush Limbaugh, the Television Show.” He next served as an investigative reporter for Cybercast News Service and as a reporter and producer for the nationally syndicated television newsmagazine “American Investigator.” In 2000, his investigative television documentary “Amazon Rainforest: Clear-Cutting the Myths” created an international firestorm. During his tenure as senior advisor, speechwriter, and climate researcher for U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), he managed the communication operations of the GOP side of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

Watch: ‘Climate Hustle’ Film’s Popular Following Grows – Premieres in Canada

Published on Oct 3, 2016
“Climate Hustle” is a climate expose that challenges the alleged ‘consensus’ and shows the public how the urgent cries of climate catastrophists parallel some of the moves of the street hustle confidence game “Three Card Monte.” Millions of Americans packed theatres upon the release of “Climate Hustle” in the US. When The Rebel Media brought “Climate Hustle” to Calgary and Edmonton in the fall of 2016, hundreds of people lined up to see it. There are legitimate concerns about the impact of humans on the earth in terms of pollution, resource use, and energy demand – but the alarmism and strident cries for urgent (very expensive) action on climate change don’t square with the climate evidence or common sense. Friends of Science talked with Executive Producer, Craig Rucker, of CFACT.

Green Guru James Lovelock reverses belief in ‘global warming’: Now says ‘I’m not sure the whole thing isn’t crazy’

environmentalist James Lovelock near his home on the Dorset coast.

UK Guardian – By Decca Aitkenhead – September 30, 2016

James Lovelock’s parting words last time we met were: “Enjoy life while you can. Because if you’re lucky, it’s going to be 20 years before it hits the fan.” It was early 2008, and the distinguished scientist was predicting imminent and irreversible global warming, which would soon make large parts of the planet uninhabitably hot or put them underwater. The fashionable hope that windfarms or recycling could prevent global famine and mass migration was, he assured me, a fantasy; it was too late for ethical consumption to save us. Before the end of this century, 80% of the world’s population would be wiped out….

Eight years after our previous encounter, he appears to have aged not one bit. At 97, he’s conceived a beautifully illustrated book of essays described as a “tool kit for the future”, The Earth and I, and written the introduction and conclusion; he goes walking every day, his hearing is perfect, his focus forensic and his memory unimpaired….

What has changed dramatically, however, is his position on climate change. He now says: “Anyone who tries to predict more than five to 10 years is a bit of an idiot, because so many things can change unexpectedly.” But isn’t that exactly what he did last time we met? “I know,” he grins teasingly. “But I’ve grown up a bit since then.”

Lovelock now believes that “CO2 is going up, but nowhere near as fast as they thought it would. The computer models just weren’t reliable. In fact,” he goes on breezily, “I’m not sure the whole thing isn’t crazy, this climate change. You’ve only got to look at Singapore. It’s two-and-a-half times higher than the worst-case scenario for climate change, and it’s one of the most desirable cities in the world to live in.”

Lovelock on Fracking

Lovelock has withering contempt for environmentalists’ opposition to fracking. “You see, gas in America is incredibly cheap, because of fracking,” he says. But what about the risk of triggering earthquakes? He rolls his eyes.

“Sure enough, that’s true, there will be an increase. But they’re tiny little tremors, they would be imperceptible. The only trouble is that you can detect them. The curse of my life has been that I’ve spent a lot of time inventing devices that are exceedingly sensitive. And the moment somebody can detect …
