REPORT ON ARCTIC SEA ICE UNLEASHES SHOCK WAVES

Marc Morano of Climate Depot warned the intent now is not to discuss, investigate or research, but to send “a chilling message to doubters and skeptics” to be silent.

Morano said his movie, “Climate Hustle,” shows “the climate establishment comparing climate skeptics to Holocaust deniers.”

“It’s all an attempt to silence the debate, to silence any science and go right to centralized planning,” he said. “That’s what this is all about. The U.N. has admitted their goal is wealth redistribution and it doesn’t have anything to do with environmental policy.”

The solution offered by the climate establishment, he said, is always the same: “more centralized government.”

He said the result will be tragic for large populations who are being denied access to pumped water, power and heat because of antagonism to carbon-based fuels.

“The reason we know there’s a hustle is their predictions have failed to come true, on a whole host of issues,” Morano said. “That’s why they now want to stop the debate, suppress debate.”…

Arctic Sea Ice The Same Thickness As 1940

In 1940, Arctic sea ice was two meters thick.

23 Feb 1940 – THE NORTH POLE

Arctic sea ice is now two meters thick.

DMI Modelled ice thickness

All of the official fake news agencies and fake government agencies have been claiming that Arctic sea ice is getting thinner.

A Bush Administration official said last week that all the thick multi-year ice is gone.

Changes in Arctic Ice Patterns Could Be Catastrophic | At the Edge | US News

As is almost always the case with government officials and journalists, they were lying. More than half of the Arctic is covered with multi-year ice.

Polar bear habitat message for the year end: 2016 Arctic ice extent same as 2010

According to NSIDC daily sea ice interactive graph,  there was ever so slightly more ice on 31 Dec 2016 than on that date in 2010. However, the corresponding ice maps show just how differently that ice was distributed.

sea-ice-at-31-dec-2016_vs-2010_nsidc-interactive

Recall that in 2010, there was no huge die-off of polar bears attributed to reduced amounts of sea ice in the fall (or to reduced ice in summer, for that matter) because there was no catastrophic die-off at all.

NSIDC Masie ice charts show just how different the distribution of ice was in 2010 at 31 December compared to 2016 at the end of the year (2010, Day 365).

Here is 2010 at day 365 (extent 12.9 mkm2):

masie_all_r00_v01_2010_365_4km-cropped

For some reason, Masie ice images were unavailable for the last day of the year but below is the one for the next day (2017, Day 1), 1 January 2017 (also 12.9 mkm2):

masie_all_zoom_4km-2017-jan-1

Compared to the 2010 map above, there is much more ice this year in eastern Canada than in 2010, much less in the Barents Sea north of Norway.

Take-home message: Absolute extent numbers don’t tell the whole story about polar bear habitat changes from year to year.

Media Arctic warmth fizzle: Despite predictions, Temps never got higher than minus 10C – ‘If You’re Going To Arctic, Don’t Bother Packing That Bikini’

Temperatures at the North Pole could reach freezing point, claimed the BBC on Saturday.

In reality temperatures never got higher than about minus 10C. While this was still less cold than usual, it was due to an incursion of milder air from the Atlantic across a very narrow front.

Most of the Arctic was around average at between minus 30C and 40C.

NYT: Global Warming Is Turning Polar Bears Into ‘Refugees’

The New York Times believes Arctic-dwelling polar bears are “climate refugees,” fleeing for their lives from melting sea ice caused by man-made global warming.

Polar bears are migrating away from their traditional hunting grounds and toward areas in Canada, Russia, and Alaska, The NYT wrote Sunday, because sea ice is melting at a record pace.

Polar bears may seem healthy and at ease in their environments, the paper noted, but those that travel inland “are climate refugees, on land because the sea ice they rely on for hunting seals is receding.”

Their extinction does not appear to be as eminent as The NYT implies

Environmentalists have worked for years to place polar bears on the CITES’ “Appendix I” list, which includes animals considered threatened by immediate extinction.

But regulators have continued to balk at the campaign earlier this year, when they announced polar bears would remain on “Appendix II”– a list declaring a species to be endangered but otherwise fine for the time being.

[dcquiz] Polar bears are protected by the Endangered Species Act because they could potentially be harmed by global warming.

The NYT even admits that the species may not be that close to extinction, as only three groups of the 19 polar bear populations in the Arctic are considered at risk.

Despite media’s Arctic record heat claims, ‘there is nothing unusual going on in the Arctic’

The Washington Post is misleading their frozen US readers once again about the Arctic, telling them the Arctic has temperatures 50 degrees above normal and record low sea ice. They say this is not normal.

Pre-Christmas melt? North Pole forecast to warm 50 degrees above normal Thursday – The Washington Post

Temperatures in Greenland are incredibly cold. The reason the North Pole is not as cold as normal is because deep waves in the jet stream have brought the cold air south, and milder air north.

Arctic sea ice extent is higher than 2012 and 2013, and about the same as last year. There is no “record low sea ice” as the Washington Post fraudsters claim.

What is going on in the Arctic with meridional circulation was explained by Science News during the 1970s ice age scare. There is nothing unusual going on in the Arctic.

The December 1977 issue of National Geographic showed exactly what was going on.

National Geographic : 1977 Dec

Deep dips in the jet stream brought warm air towards the pole, and cold air to the Midwest and East.

Florida was frozen during January, 1977. California was warm and had record drought.

Alaska was 50 degrees in January 1997, and the bears refused to hibernate. Note the same 50 degree number used in the Washington Post article.

27 Jan 1977, Page 8 – The Sheboygan Press

This is just one more fake news attempt by the Washington Post to derail President Trump’s efforts to end junk climate science. Warm air in one place normally means cold air somewhere else. This is perfectly normal weather and has nothing to do with fake news global warming.…

Hottest Arctic Hype: ‘Nothing is actually happening that justifies the apocalyptic headlines’

By Paul Homewood

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/12/13/hottest-arctic-record-triggers-massive-ice-melt/amp/

There has been a concerted effort in the last few days to run the latest Arctic scare story, such as this one in the Telegraph:

The Arctic shattered heat records in the past year as unusually warm air triggered massive melting of ice and snow and a late fall freeze, US government scientists said on Tuesday.

The grim assessment came in the Arctic Report Card 2016, a peer-reviewed document by 61 scientists around the globe issued by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The NOAA report covers from October 2015 to September 2016, a period it said the Arctic’s average annual air temperature over land was the highest on record.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/12/13/hottest-arctic-record-triggers-massive-ice-melt/amp/

The use of the word “heat”, has become prevalent lately, all designed to put slightly warmer weather into a bad light. All I can say to the writer of this article is that, if they really think it is hot in the Arctic, let them go for a swim there.

But how warm has it been up there this year?

Atmospheric temperatures, according to UAH, are the highest since 1979, running at 1.16C above the 1981-2010 mean.

image

http://www.nsstc.uah.edu/climate/

HADCRUT surface data, however, does not suggest any unusual warmth this year. (Figures are up to October 2016).

And looking back through the 20thC, spikes in temperature of this magnitude are not all unusual around the Arctic, as we saw during the 1920s and 30s.
