Former EPA Chief Denies War On Coal While Sitting In Front Of A ‘Coal Sucks’ Poster

MICHAEL BASTASCH

The head of the EPA under President Barack Obama vehemently denied politicians and environmentalists waged a “war on coal.”

There’s just one problem. She was sitting in front of a “coal sucks” poster in the office of California’s top state senator.

Former EPA chief Gina McCarthy huddled with Democratic lawmakers in Sacramento Thursday to advise them on how the state could move forward with policies aimed at fighting global warming while the Trump administration dismantled Obama’s environmental agenda.

McCarthy took over EPA in Obama’s second term and oversaw the implementation of the president’s “Climate Action Plan,” which included sweeping regulations on power plants and natural gas wells. Republicans and coal supporters say these regulations were part of the administration’s “war on coal.”

Former Obama EPA Chief concedes: ‘Climate change has become a religion’

Speaking in California, former Obama EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy admits, “climate change has become a religion — a politically induced religion”.
GINA MCCARTHY: “I don’t know why climate change got to be a religion instead of a simple fact based science exercise but I do know that the actions that California is taking and others will make the difference between whether we stand still or fall back or move forward. […] I do see that states are actually making these investments. The challenge I think we have is for some reason climate change has become a religion — a politically induced religion instead of science fact that now we have to embrace and move forward on.”

GOP’ers who once smeared Trump pitch carbon tax to White House

By Thomas Richard

Members of the conservative Climate Leadership Council, half of whom publicly denounced candidate #Donald Trump during the election, visited the White House yesterday to extol the benefits of a #carbon tax. In their view, such a tax would mark the first step toward fighting global warming while potentially gaining new constituents for the party.

The CLC, run by eight old-school Republicans and business leaders, wants to impose a $40 tariff on each ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted through mechanical or industrial policies. In exchange, the administration could cancel some of the most expensive EPA rules.

With friends like these…

And even though the Council’s membership is comprised of GOP loyalists, many made disparaging comments about Trump during the campaign. Henry M. Paulson, Jr., a CLC member and a GOP Treasury Dept. secretary, said he had voted for Hillary Clinton. Three others made critical comments that might also overshadow their case for a new carbon tax.

While most politicians understand that things said during a heated campaign are just rhetoric, it’s a little different when your own party members are voting for or supporting the other candidate. But Trump is not like most politicians and may see things differently. During the campaign, George Shultz, who served as Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan, told a crowd at the Hoover Institute “God help us” over the notion of a Trump presidency:

“God help us.” That’s how fmr. Reagan Sec. of State George Shultz referred to the prospect of a Trump administration, today at @HooverInst

Another member on the CLC is N. Gregory Mankiw, who served as Chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2003 to 2005 under President George W. Bush. Mankiw told CNBC’s John Harwood he could never support or vote for Trump. He also said a Trump administration would be worse than an Obama/Clinton presidency.

GOP economist Mankiw on Trump: “He won’t be getting my vote. I have R friends who think couldn’t be worse than Obama/Clinton. They’re wrong”

The Council tried to convince the administration that a carbon tax could start immediately, …

Vatican Resurrects Pro-Abort Paul Ehrlich – Invites ‘huckster of overpopulation’ fears to Vatican

Vatican Resurrects Pro-Abort Paul Ehrlich

Written by

Nutty pro-abort (and Vatican expert) Paul Ehrlich
Nutty pro-abort (and Vatican expert) Paul Ehrlich

The Globalist Creed of Population Control over the inhabitants of the earth and its panhandlers are being resurrected from the ash heap of their false prophesies. Their emergence from the death of oblivion is cagily orchestrated by the Pope of the New World Order as he honors Paul Ehrlich, the modern huckster of overpopulation.

I remember the fear and trepidation instilled in the hearts and minds of Americans when Paul Ehrlich’s The Population Bomb was released in 1968. His predictions that hundreds of millions would die in the 1970s from starvation because of overpopulation rocked the globe. His terrifying forecasts went largely unchallenged by the media as the world shuddered over the impending end of the world. Ehrlich’s first chapter set the stage for his apocalyptic predictions: “too many people, too little food, a dying planet.”

Readers were cautioned with this alarming cryptic warning on the book’s front cover, “While you are reading these words four people will have died from starvation. Most of them children.” Imagine the ominous opening notes of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony which aptly capture Ehrlich’s apocalyptic vision. Every page filled with a dire warning which prepares the reader for a calamity filled, panic pushing, alarmist driven, terror inducing, messianic demonic drivel inspired to shock the world into aborting babies. Mission Accomplished, Dr. Death.

Frankly, I thought Paul Ehrlich had left this over populated and doomed world to meet his creator. Ah, but Pope Francis, in his infinite eco-spiritualism and globalist wisdom resurrected the old Carmac, the Magnificent Stanford biologist to share his wisdom and knowledge at the Vatican. The chilling admonition of the latest papal population control expert should send Catholics storming St. Peter’s Square. In the Prologue of his bestseller, Herr Ehrlich warns:  “We must have population control at home, hopefully through a system of incentives and penalties, but by compulsion if voluntary methods fail.”

Sounds a lot like China’s compulsory One Child Policy.

Ehrlich must be thrilled to be invited to the Vatican to teach the prelates about biological extinction. After all, in the Population Bomb, he had some choice words for Catholics and focused his anger at the Catholic Church which hearkens back to a time, sadly, long gone:

“Catholic politicians at home and abroad operate in many ways to obstruct population control. They often effectively block

Coldest Winter In Decade Causes Energy Shortages Across Southeast Europe

As freezing weather triggered energy shortages across southeast Europe at the start of the year, Bulgaria’s refusal to export power was typical in a region where everyone had to fend for themselves.

Nations from Greece to Hungary hoarded power last month in response to the coldest winter in a decade, exposing the weakness of the region’s power markets, which should enjoy unrestricted flows. Temperatures in the Balkans and surrounding countries are expected to drop below freezing again next week.…

100 sailors trapped in ice — in icebreaker — near Arctic outpost

The historic convoy to Pevek did not have a lucky outcome. Three vessels, among them an icebreaker, might not get loose before spring.
February 07, 2017

They were carrying construction materials for the new local port, built to facilitate the installation of Russia’s first floating nuclear power plant. It was a historic voyage. Never before have icebreakers escorted cargo vessels from the western part of the Arctic to Pevek, the town by the East Siberian Sea, in mid-winter.

Conditions underway were tough. The convoy soon needed assistance from a second and more powerful icebreaker, the «Admiral Makarov», which came to support from its base in Vladivostok.

The convoy, which included cargo carriers «Iogann Makhmastal» and «Sinegorsk» and diesel-engined icebreaker «Kapital Dranitsyn», arrived in Pevek on 7th February. They were due to depart few days later. That did not happen.

New Paper: Glacier Melt Rates Were Up To 3 Times Greater, Faster During Early 20th Century

75% Of Total Modern Glacier Melt Occurred Before 1950

“[T]he retreat of the glaciers after about 1925 became rapid.  It was almost entirely during the [pre-1950] twentieth century warming that the Alpine glaciers disappeared from the valley floors up into the mountains.  Similarly great retreats occurred in Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland, in the Americas, and on high mountains near the equator.”  — H.H. Lamb  Climate, History, and the Modern World (1982), pg. 248

A new scientific paper indicates that the pronounced warming that occurred during the years stretching from the 1920s to the 1940s melted Northern Iceland glaciers much more extensively and at a far more rapid pace than has been observed in recent decades.

During the 1960s to 1980s, glacier melt rates not only decelerated relative to the 1920s to 1940s, the ice actually advanced in some cases due to decades of cooling.   It has only been since about the mid-1990s that glaciers have consistently begun melting again — but with far less alacrity than they did in the first half of the 20th century.

Fernández-Fernández and co-authors (2017) indicate that the Icelandic glaciers they studied melted by more than 1,000 meters (1,062) on average between the late 1800s and 1946.  But from 1947 to 2005, these same glaciers only retreated by an average of 272 meters more.  In other words, about 75% of the total glacier melt production since the end of the Little Ice Age (the late 19th century) occurred prior to the mid-1940s.

Below are some key points and graphs from the paper.

Fernández-Fernández et al., 2017

Summary:

The abrupt climatic transition of the early 20th century and the 25-year warm period 1925–1950 triggered the main retreat and volume loss of these glaciers since the end of the ‘Little Ice Age’. Meanwhile, cooling during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s altered the trend, with advances of the glacier snouts. Stötter et al. (1999) indicate that the coldest period after the LIA was from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s, when temperatures fell to levels equivalent to the warmest recorded in the 19th century. This cooling is the reason given by Caseldine (1983, 1985a, 1985b, 1988) to explain the advance of the Gljúfurárjökull between the mid-1970s and the mid-1980s  … Studies of aerial photographs and satellite images show that the glacier snouts have retreated by more than 1300 m on average since the LIA maximum

Dr. Judith Curry speaks out on climate science’s fatal flaw – the failure to explore and understand uncertainty
