Trump ignores Gore’s advice, instead picks skeptic to head EPA & dismantle climate agenda
Climate Depot’s publisher Marc Morano statement on President Elect Donald Trump’s selection of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt pick for EPA chief:
“President-Elect Trump’s appointment of Scott Pruitt is a breath of fresh air. No longer do we have to suffer under President Obama’s ridiculous EPA ‘climate’ regulations. It is also refreshing that a Republican President is not throwing the EPA over to the green activists and the media by appointing a weak administrator. Christine Todd Whitman he is not! See: Bravo! Trump appoints ‘a fierce critic of the EPA’ — to head EPA! & Cheers! Trump picks leading EPA critic to head agency & NYT: ‘Trump Picks Scott Pruitt, Climate Change Denialist, to Lead EPA‘ & Wash Post: Trump names Scott Pruitt, Oklahoma AG suing EPA on climate change
Trump’s pick of Pruitt finally means that a Republican President is standing up the green establishment! Historically, EPA chiefs have been among the most pro regulatory members of past Republican presidents from Nixon through Ford, Reagan and both Bushes. Trump has broken the cycle!
Climate sanity has been restored to the U.S. EPA. No longer do we have to hear otherwise intelligent people in charge in DC blather on about how EPA regulations are necessary to control the Earth’s temperature or storminess. See: Huh?! Obama advisor John Podesta claims EPA CO2 regs (which don’t impact global CO2 levels) are needed to combat extreme weather: ‘The risk on the downside you’re seeing every day in the weather’
No longer do we have to endure GOP presidents avoiding battle over the green agenda by picking EPA chiefs that were timid at best. We know how bad GOP EPA picks have been in the past because many former GOP EPA chiefs endorsed President Obama’s EPA climate regulations. See: EPA chiefs who served under Republicans press for climate action
If climate skeptics were worried about Trump’s meeting with Former VP Al Gore earlier this week, the pick of Pruitt is reassuring. Basically Trump listened to what Gore had to say at their New York City meeting and then he exercised his good judgement and did the exact opposite. Kudos to Trump for standing up the well funding climate establishment by picking Pruitt.
Trump’s Pick for EPA Has a History of Fighting the Agency
Pruitt, a Republican, led the charge in the states’ fight against what he considers an overreach by the EPA on issues including the Clean Power Plan, which aims to combat global warming; the Waters of the United States rule, which aims to protect wetlands and waterways; and the Renewable Fuel Standard, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
He has publicly expressed skepticism about climate change science, and supports the notion that the debate is “far from settled.”…
Trump’s Pick to Lead the EPA Calls Himself a ‘Leading Advocate Against the EPA’s Activist Agenda’
…Flashback: Trump’s pick for EPA chief declared EPA climate regs were like ‘gun to the head’
May 5, 2015:
Testifying before the US Senate, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt disagrees with the notion of any ‘flexibility’ for the States to comply with EPA’s climate change inspired power plant regulations. Attorney General Pruitt: ‘If this is such a flexible arrangement that’s offered to the states, if this is really within the bounds of cooperative federalism, why is it that the EPA, presently, is in the process of developing a uniform Federal Implementation Plan that they’re going to put on the shelf, to then say to the states, unless you act in a particular way, unless you act consistent with the rule, this is what you are going to get. That to me does not sound like cooperation. That does not sound like partnership. That sounds like the proverbial gun to the head of making states act a particular way.’

Fmr. Harvard Physicist praises Trump’s EPA pick: ‘There is nothing unclean about CO2 & the environment doesn’t need to be ‘protected’ against it’
Former Harvard University Physicist Dr. Lubos Motl:
Pruitt has rightfully pointed out that the Environmental Protection Agency has overstepped its authority when it decided to regulate carbon dioxide according to the “Clean Power Plan”. There is nothing unclean about carbon dioxide and the environment doesn’t need to be “protected” against it. Some legally inaccessible and scientifically indefensible steps were already made by the “Clean Air Act”, I guess.
These are lots of historical technicalities that will hopefully become irrelevant soon. Pruitt, a friend of the fossil fuels, the cheapest yet accessible source of energy, has raised some appropriate legal arguments at appropriate places and he should be able to clean the mess after caused by the Obama administration’s contamination of the environmental laws in the U.S., remove the harmful regulations, and stop the financial flows of the U.S. taxpayer money towards assorted fraudulent “renewable” special business interests.…

TRUMP PICKS PROMINENT CLIMATE SKEPTIC AS EPA CHIEF
President-elect Donald Trump is poised to name Scott Pruitt, a prominent skeptic of climate science and an ardent foe of government action on climate change, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), according to media reports. Pruitt, the attorney general of Oklahoma, has been a leading architect of legal opposition to President Barack Obama’s climate and environmental policies.
“Healthy debate is the lifeblood of American democracy, and global warming has inspired one of the major policy debates of our time,” Pruitt and Luther Strange, the attorney general of Alabama, wrote in a May opinion piece in National Review, criticizing plans by some state attorneys general to investigate fossil fuel companies. “That debate is far from settled. Scientists continue to disagree about the degree and extent of global warming and its connection to the actions of mankind. That debate should be encouraged—in classrooms, public forums, and the halls of Congress. It should not be silenced with threats of prosecution. Dissent is not a crime.”…

Dems, greens slam Pruitt nomination
By Alex Guillén
12/07/2016 03:53 PM EDT
Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s expected nomination to head EPA today drew sharp criticism from green groups and environmental advocates in Congress, including former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who said he would oppose the “sad and dangerous” move.
…
Dan Pfeiffer, a former top Obama adviser put it more succinctly, tweeting, “At the risk of being dramatic. Scott Pruitt at EPA is an existential threat to the planet.”
Pruitt’s nomination also had environmentalists seeing red.
Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune called Pruitt’s nomination “like putting an arsonist in charge of fighting fires,” while League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski compared it to “the fox guarding the henhouse.”

Celebrate! Trump to pick ‘ardent opponent’ of Obama climate agenda to run EPA
U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump will pick an ardent opponent of President Barack Obama’s measures to stem climate change to head the Environmental Protection Agency, a Trump transition team source said on Wednesday.
Trump’s choice, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, has enraged environmental activists, but he fits with the Republican president-elect’s promise to cut the agency back and eliminate regulation that he says is stifling oil and gas drilling.…
Bravo! Trump appoints ‘a fierce critic of the EPA’ — to head EPA!
Pruitt became the top prosecutor for Oklahoma, which has extensive oil reserves, in 2011, and has challenged the EPA multiple times since, including in a pending lawsuit to throw out the EPA’s Clean Power Plan. The plan is the centerpiece of Obama’s climate change strategy and requires states to curb carbon output.…
