How scary are your jack-o’-lanterns? Scarier than you think, according to the Energy Department, which claims the holiday squash is responsible for unleashing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Most of the 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins produced in the U.S. end up in the trash, says the Energy Department’s website, becoming part of the “more than 254 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) produced in the United States every year.”

Municipal solid waste decomposes into methane, “a harmful greenhouse gas that plays a part in climate change, with more than 20 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide,” Energy says.…

It only took a month for electric car sales to drop 90 percent after a 15 year old tax credit for electric car buyers expired in Georgia.
The $5,000 subsidy for electric vehicles expired last June and has gutted the electric sector, reducing popular green models like the Chevy Volt to single digit sales across the entire state, reported Watchdog.org. The subsidy is under fire for being a 15-year-long giveaway, rather than a worthwhile incentive.
“I thought the credit turned from an incentive into a virtual entitlement,” Georgia Republican state Rep. Chuck Martin told Watchdog.org.
The Nissan Leaf was hit hardest, dropping from 1,008 sales in June to just 66 in August. Overall, only 148 electric cars were purchased in August, down from 1,338 in June. Watchdog.org reports that the $5,000 tax credit was on top of the $7,500 federal credit given for purchasing electric vehicles, making buying one of these cars in Georgia extremely cheap.

French Mathematicians Blast UN’s ‘Costly & Pointless Crusade’ Against Global Warming
The mathematicians harshly criticized a “crusade [that] has invaded every area of activity and everyone’s thinking,” noting that “the battle [against] CO2 has become a national priority.
“How have we reached this point in a country that claims to be rational?” they ask, adding that mathematicians “do not believe in crusades. They look at facts, figures, comments and arguments.”
“There is not a single fact, figure…[or] observation that leads us to conclude the world’s climate is in any way ‘disturbed,” the paper states. “It is variable, as it has always been. … Modern methods are far from being able to accurately measure the planet’s overall temperature even today, so measurements made 50 or 100 years ago are even less reliable.”

Even if there were such a thing as global warming, “then we should celebrate,” the mathematicians said. “And if it does not exist, then we simply shall have to carry on switching on the central heating.”
“French policy [on] CO2 is particularly stupid, since we are one of the countries with the cleanest industrial sector,” the white paper pointed out, slamming “virtuous” policies that have resulted in a significant loss of industrial activity and the resultant loss of jobs that has left three million French unemployed even as global CO2 emissions continue to rise.…

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes global warming is a “fraud” — a plot to keep Russia from using its vast oil and natural gas reserves.
Putin believes “there is no global warming, that this is a fraud to restrain the industrial development of several countries, including Russia,” Stanislav Belkovsky, a political analyst and Putin critic, told The New York Times.
“That is why this subject is not topical for the majority of the Russian mass media and society in general,” Belkovsky said.
Putin has been casting doubt on man-made global warming since the early 2000s, according to the Times. In 2003, Putin told an international climate conference warming would allow Russians to “spend less on fur coats,” adding that “agricultural specialists say our grain production will increase, and thank God for that.”
