Trump Hints White House Might Stay In UN Paris Climate Deal If Renegotiated

President Donald Trump indicated Thursday that he would be willing to stay in the Paris climate agreement if the deal is renegotiated to include more favorable terms for the U.S.

Trump promised to tear up the deal during the presidential campaign, along with several other Obama-era environmental regulations. He is now switching his tune somewhat, telling reporters that he objects to the deal’s unfairness.

“It’s not a fair situation because they are paying virtually nothing and we are paying massive amounts of money,” he said, referring to criticisms that China, India and Russia were not ponying up enough money to help poorer countries battle climate change under the deal.…

Analysis; ‘The People’s Climate March Is a Farce’

By Thomas Richard | Updated 28 Apr 2017 at 8:03 AM

After watching the March for Science, we now need a March for Sanity. But that’ll have to wait because this weekend is the People’s Climate March, another opportunity for left-wing agitators to show off their ignorance on poster-sized tablets preaching the global-warming gospel. It’s unsurprising: Over the past eight years, we’ve heard nothing but alarmist rhetoric from the climactivist-in-chief, Barack Obama, and his PR department, the mainstream media.

The climate march’s website calls itself part of “the resistance” that prevented President Trump from repealing Obamacare and also “stymied his despicable Muslim ban.” And organizers say they will do the “same thing to his attacks on our climate, our air, and our water.” How Mr. Trump was attacking the environment is unclear, since our air and water have never been cleaner.

Everyone has a right to protest and march peaceably. But using factoids from an Al Gore or Leo DiCaprio movie is something that most climatologists would find embarrassing.

What’s becoming clear is that these marches aren’t about the climate but more about preventing Obama-era regulations from being rolled back. Activists don’t want to prevent a climate catastrophe; they want to force mankind to stop using fossil fuels by pressuring political leaders. That’s why the marches began under Obama’s tenure; organizations want to “keep it in the ground” and prevent fuel transport across the country through safe, efficient pipelines. They want the rest of us to accept their fantastical claims that carbon dioxide is a control knob for the planet’s climate.

The next time a warmist starts blathering on about carbon pollution, hand him a glass of tonic water and say “Here, have some carbon pollution.” Yes, that seltzer water contains plenty of the dreaded carbon dioxide. And because the media have warned of “carbon pollution” so often, the public now confuses CO2 with perceived soot emissions. But America’s modern coal-fired power plants use advanced scrubbers to remove mercury, nitrous oxide, sulfates, and particulate matter, leaving only a mixture of water vapor and carbon dioxide to rise up the “smokestack.” Of course, CO2 is also a key nutrient for all plant life and, according to NASA, is making the Earth greener.

So, let’s start with the “hottest year ever” claims. Why do the media refuse to show how much warmer 2016 was than 2015? And why do the media

Update: Trump advisers likely to meet again in May to discuss UN Paris climate pact

Advisers to President Donald Trump held a meeting at the White House on Thursday to discuss whether the United States should remain in the Paris global climate deal and will likely meet again in May before making a final decision, an administration source said.

The advisers are likely on track to reach a final decision before a Group of Seven meeting in late May, the source said. Nearly 200 countries struck the Paris deal in 2015 to fight climate change by taking actions such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.…

How Team Trump plans to kill Obama’s Paris climate deal by declaring it a treaty

– The Washington Times – Wednesday, April 26, 2017

As President Trump’s top advisers prepare to hash out a final policy on the Paris climate agreement dumped onto their laps by President Obama, another option has hit the table: Declare the deal a treaty and send it to the Senate to be killed.

The treaty option could emerge as the middle ground in the increasingly tense battle between “remainers” on the one hand, who say the president should abide by Mr. Obama’s global warming deal, and the Paris agreement’s detractors, who say Mr. Trump would be breaking a key campaign promise if he doesn’t withdraw from the pact.

Mr. Trump’s principal advisers are slated to meet Thursday to hash out a final set of recommendations for the president, with several deadlines looming next month.

At an initial meeting of top staffers Tuesday, several memos and letters that were circulated laid out the options, including the treaty proposal put forth by Christopher C. Horner and Marlo Lewis Jr., senior fellows at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

Under their vision, Mr. Trump could toss out Mr. Obama’s decision that the Paris accord was an executive agreement, declare it a treaty and send it to the Senate, where it would need a two-thirds vote for ratification.

EU Parliament Members call for Trump to dump UN Paris climate deal

By Roger Helmer – Member of European Parliament

As UKIP’s Energy Spokesman, I have drafted an open letter, (see below), to President Donald Trump, and signed by twenty MEPs, from six countries and three political groups, calling for early implementation of his campaign pledge to pull the USA out of the Paris Climate Treaty.

In the letter, we say that a US withdrawal from the Paris accord “would effectively neuter it, to the benefit of us all.”

We applaud the new and more positive approach which President Trump is taking to climate and energy issues and we are pressing for similar policies on this (European) side of the Atlantic.

The letter also raises concerns about the EPA’s “endangerment” finding with regard to CO2, and urges the President to revisit the issue.  We argue that the finding has no sound basis in science, but provides a pretext for damaging and extreme environmental policies.

It is clear that the EU’s extreme green policies are doing huge damage to EU industry and EU competitiveness, and are driving energy-intensive industries out of the EU entirely, taking their jobs and their investments with them.

At the same time these policies have a trivial effect on the climate.  Billions spent on “green” investments amount to little more than gesture politics and virtue-signalling from politicians spending other people’s money.

The letter was signed by 20 MEPs from six EU member-states:

Washington, DC 20500, USA

Dear Mr. President,

We the undersigned, Members of the European parliament, would like to offer you our sincere congratulations on your election as President of the United States of America.  We are glad to affirm the high value we place on the Transatlantic Alliance, which has been such a force for peace, for prosperity and for the values we share.

We particularly applaud the new realism which you

Trump may stay in UN Paris climate accord — with caveats

Washington (AFP) – Signs are mounting that US President Donald Trump’s administration may stay in the landmark Paris climate change accord of 2015, under pressure from big business and public support for the agreement.

But experts say the final decision, expected next month, is anything but certain, and staying at the table could come with significant caveats, like a weakening of US commitments to curbing greenhouse gas emissions.

“Given the unpredictability of decision-making by this administration, I am very reluctant to predict,” said Elliot Diringer, executive vice president of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions.

“But there does seem to be a growing convergence around a strategy of staying in the Paris Agreement but lowering the US target.”

The latest word on the administration’s stance came from Energy Secretary Rick Perry, who said Tuesday he would not advise Trump to abandon the deal but rather renegotiate it.

That statement aligned Perry, the former governor of Texas, with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who formerly headed ExxonMobil and has spoken in favor of honoring the US commitment to the Paris deal, struck in 2015 and signed by more than 190 countries.

Trump’s daughter Ivanka, and son-in-law Jared Kushner — who both serve as his advisors — are also said to be in favor of the deal.

On Wednesday, 13 major international businesses ranging from energy to pharmaceuticals to retail urged Trump to adhere to the Paris accord.…

Climate Scientist Urges President Trump not to Cave on UN Climate Agreement

by THOMAS D. WILLIAMS, PH.D.24 Apr 2017
In an open letter to Donald Trump, climate expert Dr. Duane Thresher has urged the President not to give in to his daughter Ivanka’s misguided views on global warming and her insistence that the U.S. remain in the Paris climate agreement ratified by Barack Obama last August.

“Climate treaties like the Paris Agreement have little to do with climate,” Thresher notes in his letter, which he made available to Breitbart News. “They are about economic competition. As the greatest economy in the history of the world, other countries will do anything to cripple the United States.”

Thresher, who has a PhD in Earth & Environmental Sciences from Columbia University and NASA GISS and worked for years in climate monitoring, says he understands the President’s temptation to listen to his daughter’s advice, but begs him not to give in to that temptation.

“Countries like China will agree to anything in these treaties and simply ignore their obligations while demanding the United States fulfill theirs,” Thresher said, calling belief in global warming a “popular delusion.”

In his letter, Dr. Thresher also reminded President Trump of his campaign promises that led many Americans to vote for him.

“We who voted for you consider stopping this climate change madness one of your key promises,” Thresher said. “If you renege on it you will lose me and many others as supporters.”…

Rick Perry Says Trump Will ‘Need To Renegotiate’ The Paris Agreement

By MICHAEL BASTASCH

Energy Secretary Rick Perry told conference goers he would not advise President Donald Trump to “walk away” from the Paris climate agreement, but conceded the agreement will need to be renegotiated.

Perry made the remarks at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance summit in New York City Tuesday. Perry is the only Trump administration slated to speak at the conference, which largely focuses on promoting green energy as a solution to global warming.

The White House is considering whether or not to keep Trump’s campaign pledge to pull out of the Paris agreement. Conservative groups want Trump to keep his promise, but some energy companies and administration officials are trying to pull him the other way.

On one side, Ivanka Trump, White House aide Jared Kushner and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson support remaining in Paris. White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt oppose the Paris agreement.

Perry’s remarks likely put him in the “remain” camp, pitting him against Bannon and Pruitt. A source previously told The Daily Caller’s Kaitlan Collins that Perry has softened his stance on Paris.

The Paris agreement commits United Nations members to reduce greenhouse gas emissions blamed for global warming. President Barack Obama’s Paris pledge has the U.S. cut emissions 26 to 28 percent by 2025.

The Paris agreement was never ratified by the Senate — a constitutional requirement for treaties.…

CEI Releases Ad Urging Trump to Withdraw from Paris Climate Treaty

WASHINGTON — Today, White House senior advisers are scheduled to meet about the future of U.S. involvement in the Paris Climate Treaty, even though President Trump made a campaign promise to cancel the agreement. Since December 2015, the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) has made the constitutional, political, economic, and moral case against the Paris Climate Treaty. This morning, CEI launched an online ad and petition asking President Trump to keep his promise and withdraw the United States from this harmful agreement.

Director of CEI’s Center for Energy and Environment, Myron Ebell, said:

“The Paris Climate Treaty requires the United States to make drastic cuts in fossil fuel energy use by 2025, which will raise energy prices and slow economic recovery from our decade-long slump. It also requires us to submit more ambitious commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions every five years,” said Ebell. “Failure to withdraw from the Paris Climate Treaty will make President Trump’s plans to undo Obama’s climate agenda vulnerable to legal challenges. The President should not listen to Washington’s Swamp, but rather keep his campaign promise to get the United States out of the Paris Climate Treaty and send it to the Senate for a vote.”
