“Doesn’t solve single environmental problem”
In a recent interview with the online FOCUS news magazine he raised a lot of eyebrows by stating that he thinks electric mobility is a “dangerous false path”, claiming that the electric car “does not solve a single environmental problem” and that it “contributes nothing to climate protection”.
Indra calls the claims that electric cars are CO2-free “absurd”.
Fake efficiency
Citing an earlier stiudy by a Professor Spicha, Indra says that the well-to-wheel-CO2 of an electric car in Germany is in fact 1.6 times worse than the conventional internal combustion engine. The CO2 perforamnce of an electric car in China is even four to five times worse when it comes to consumption, and that does not mention the huge energy quantities needed for manufacturing the batteries that electric cars need, which would be enough to power a conventional automobile 30,000 kilometers, he told FOCUS.
Electric cars also have the problems of recycling the batteries, as they are a long way from being fully recyclable.
According to Indra, internal combustion engines have made “very impressive progress“, saying: “The motors are continuously getting more powerful and more fuel efficient.” The engine expert believes that the final solution is “CO2-neutral synthetic fuels. They need as much CO2 for for their manufacture as emitted when in operation.”
The “second greatest environmental fraud”
When it comes to hybrid automobiles, Indra opinion is harsh, calling the plug-in-hybrids “the second greatest environmental fraud because the determination of the fuel consumption does not even include the power that was previously needed to charge up the car.” This is how “sportscars using the technology come up with perverse values like 3.1 liters consumption per 100 km [80 mpg]”.

Russian Convoy Takes Advantage of Reduced Arctic Ice Extent
In the first such crossing since Soviet times, the convoy had earlier delivered supplies for the world’s first floating heat and power plant to be assembled in Chukotka, Russia’s most easternmost region, after a successful journey from Arkhangelsk to Pevek lasting from 14 December to 7 January.

Reports of Arctic Ice Demise Prove Premature
But, despite significant temperature rises across the northern latitudes in recent years, the vessels became quickly stuck in thick, compressed ice on their return journey.
Initially there were hopes that the icebreakers could force their way out and continue their voyage within a week, and aerial reconnaissance was deployed in a search routes from the ice clog.
They are currently trapped by sudden thick ice around Chukotka’s northernmost cape Shelagsky, some 24 nautical miles from Pevek, in some of Russia’s most exposed waters.
Ruslan Nazarov, chief of Chukotka’s emergencies service, said: ‘The ice around Cape Shelagsky is at 10 points. The ice fields are more than one metre thick. The ice compression is strong and hummocks are higher than 2.5 metres.
Embarrassing But Not Life-threatening
The situation is not critical, Nazarov said, stressing that the regional ministry of emergencies and Chukotka government keep a close eye on it. ‘All the ships have enough fuel, food and all other necessities.’
A spokesman for Rosmorport has announced the icebreakers will delay a return until probably May or early June. ‘The vessels will remain for the winter because of the very heavy severe ice conditions,’ he said.
All the vessel got out of the ice, and three of them – Captain Dranitsyn and the two cargo ships – returned to Pevek. The Admiral Makarov moved further east to continue working for Rosmorport in clearing sea routes.

Actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said “Hello” to hypocrisy and “Hasta la vista, baby” to climate purity.
The New Celebrity Apprentice started with Schwarzenegger looking suave and putting on sunglasses in a giant, gas-guzzling hummer. What it didn’t explain was the glaring hypocrisy of a fossil fuel alarmist like Schwarzenegger driving the king of all gas hogs.
Schwarzenegger previously appeared in the climate alarmist documentary Years of Living Dangerously, and browbeat Facebook users into opposing fossil fuels. He attempted to challenge climate change skeptics by arguing that pollution from fossil fuels killed thousands of children.
But the actor-turned-politician-turned-reality TV star should have looked in the mirror, considering that he was one of the worst emitters of fossil fuels when he served as governor.

Trump’s Cabinet Pick To Impact Federal Fuel Mandates: ‘War on internal combustion engine will, mercifully, be over’
President-elect Donald Trump will reportedly pick former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao to head the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Chao, the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, headed up the Department of Labor under former President George W. Bush, and energy insiders predict her appointment means an end to using the department to fight global warming.
“It means that the war on the internal combustion engine will, mercifully, be over,” Mike McKenna, a Republican strategist, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“It means that right order will be reinstated on things like the federal mandates on car buyers,” said McKenna, who recently left Trump’s transition team, referring to federal fuel efficiency standards.
President Barack Obama used the Transportation Department to mandate cars built in 2025 get 54.5 miles per gallon as a way to wean the U.S. off foreign oil and fight global warming through cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported in November that automakers beat fuel efficiency standards in new cars, but at the same time automakers are asking the incoming Trump administration to reconsider the 54.5 miles per gallon standard. EPA and DOT jointly administer federal fuel economy standards.
“Well-meaning regulatory actions risks increasing compliance costs to the point that additional safety and fuel-efficiency technologies put new vehicles out of financial reach for the average new car purchaser,” the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers wrote in a recent letter to Trump’s transition team.…
Kerry’s Antarctica Trip Produced As Much CO2 as Average American Does in a year
(CNSNews.com) – Secretary of State John Kerry winged his way Monday from New Zealand to the Middle East on the next leg of what may be his longest trip yet, a journey during which America’s top diplomat will account for roughly 16.5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
That’s more or less the amount of CO2 – one of the key “greenhouse gases” blamed for global warming – produced by the average American in a full year, according to World Bank data.
Climate change features prominently on Kerry’s itinerary on his current trip, an eight-day haul from Washington to New Zealand to Antarctica – where he became the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit – and on to two Arab Gulf states and then Morocco before winging to Peru and then back home.
The Antarctica visit, which included a stop at the McMurdo research station on Ross Island, was focused primarily on climate change – Kerry spoke about concerns that should a huge ice sheet break up and melt sea levels could rise by 12 feet.
The trip to Morocco is also climate-focused: Kerry will attend the U.N. climate conference in Marrakesh, where is expected to deliver a speech to an audience deeply concerned about President-elect Donald Trump’s views on climate change and the new Paris climate accord.
An imprecise calculation of the route Kerry is taking on this trip indicates he will travel around 35,300 miles, which would make it the longest of Kerry’s many journeys as secretary of state.
Prior to this one, his longest trip was around 31,900 miles last fall, when he visited East and West Africa, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, and then flew east to Bangladesh, India and on to China to join President Obama for a G20 summit.

In a world repeatedly described as under threat from innumerable challenges, including income inequality, inadequate urban infrastructure, discrimination against minorities of every stripe, and climate change, participants at the UN’s Habitat III conference in Quito, Ecuador were told that comprehensive planning aimed at densely concentrating people in urban areas offered the best way forward to a “sustainable” future.
Addressing Habitat III on the conference’s first day, Serge Salat, director of the Urban Morphology Lab in France, said compact cities with residents living as close as possible to public transportation should be the goal of urban planners. He noted that ready access to public transportation would mean residents would no longer need cars to take them to work and recreation. This, he added, would make forward-looking cities leaders in the fight against climate change. Salat’s panel at Habitat III discussed green solutions to climate change and other urban problems. Creating Open Spaces and Wild Areas
According to Salat, the city all should embrace as a role model is Stockholm, Sweden. Stockholm, he noted, has created open space “buffer zones” – essentially parkland – running all through it.
