NOW RICO TURNED AGAINST CLIMATE-CHANGE ACTIVISTS

BY BOB UNRUH

It was a year ago when a long list of scientists wrote to the Obama administration urging the federal government to use RICO, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, against global-warming skeptics.

They said in a letter addressed to President Obama, Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Office of Science and Technology Policy Director John Holdren they “appreciate that you are making aggressive and imaginative use of the limited tools available to you in the face of a recalcitrant Congress.”

“One additional tool – recently proposed by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse – is a RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) investigation of corporations and other organizations that have knowingly deceived the American people about the risks of climate change, as a means to forestall America’s response to climate change,” they wrote, according to Politico.

Now the tables are turned.

A mathematician and software engineer has filed a lawsuit in Texas naming dozens of environmental groups and others seeking to influence public action and expenditures regarding global warming programs in an action alleging violations of RICO.

Plaintiff Leonid Goldstein explains at the outset of his complaint, “This is a civil suit against Climate Action Network and other corporations, who engaged in a long-term criminal scheme, involving a false claim that anthropogenic release (or emissions) of carbon dioxide caused a dangerous ‘global warming’ or a dangerous ‘climate change,’ and persecution of the dissidents or demanding government actions, based on this false claim, including money transfer.

“In fact, the anthropogenic release of carbon dioxide significantly increases agricultural production worldwide. The surface warming, theoretically caused by increased concentration of carbon dioxide, is insignificant and almost undetectable, and is expected to be globally beneficial.”

Ex-NASA climate guru suing President Obama wants Big Oil to fork over trillions

James Hansen, NASA’s ex-climate chief at the forefront of the global warming movement, has a new paper that previews an apocalyptic future from#Climate Change unless we stop emitting all carbon dioxide. And he wants the fossil fuel industry to foot the trillion-dollar bill.

For Hansen, these types of papers are nothing new. He has been warning of Earth’s looming demise since 1988 when he told Congress that the Earth was heating up and it was our fault; he gave a ten-year temperature prediction that was off by 300 percent. Other predictions over his storied career were just as unsuccessful. Now the scientist-turned-activist wants fossil fuel companies held responsible and forced to pay for the so-called climate change problem via judicial activism. And he wrote this paper to support his contention.

He has called the Paris Climate Agreement “toothless” and no better than its predecessor, the Kyoto Protocol. He noted the countries that have signed on to this latest climate deal are deluding themselves. These “governments clapped themselves on the back but when you look at the #Science it doesn’t compute, it’s not true.” Ouch.

Lawsuit = Fines & Settlements. “Extract” needs to be replaced with “Extort.” Consumer pays more vs supply/demand.

Suing President Obama

Hansen believes the current global warming predictions will cost future generations trillions of dollars and leave young people a problem they can’t control, namely the climate. “It’s not clear they will be able to take such actions,” Hansen told reporters.

He also said fossil fuel companies need to pay for the hundreds of trillions of dollars that a warming world will cost, seemingly mindless that trillions have already been spent on renewables, carbon capture technology, zero emission vehicles, theClean Power Plan, and much more to little effect.

Hansen’s paper wasn’t peer-reviewed but submitted to ‘Earth System Dynamics’ journal. It was written to support a legal case being pursued by Hansen, his granddaughter, and 21 other claimants aged 8 to 19 …

Former NASA climate chief Hansen says energy industry must pay trillions to combat ‘global warming’

A former NASA climate scientist is urging a full-court press against the fossil fuel industry to get the hundreds of trillions of dollars necessary for the next generation to combat global warming.

James Hansen is releasing a study Tuesday that looks at global temperature rise over the next few decades and what it will cost the younger generation to pay to reduce the warming trend that many scientists say is caused by fossil fuel use.

“Despite widespread recognition of the risks posed by climate change, global fossil fuel emissions continue at a high rate that tends to make these [emission reduction] targets increasingly improbable,” the study said.

The report said the rate of temperature change due to higher levels of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels has increased by 20 percent in the last decade, “thus making it increasingly difficult to achieve targets such as limiting global warming to [an increase of] 1.5 degrees Celsius,” the target agreed to by almost 200 countries in the Paris Agreement.

Hansen concludes from the findings that the younger generation, which will not have sufficient revenue to combat that kind of rapid warming, must turn to the courts to sue for the trillions of dollars that will be required to tackle it effectively and quickly.

Hansen said a growing number of legal cases over climate change are being filed worldwide, with the argument growing that a hospitable environment is a basic human right that the fossil fuel industry has infringed upon and now must pay to remedy.

He said it is time for these lawsuits to “start extracting money from the fossil fuel industry … to fund activities” meant to cut greenhouse gas emission and curb the rise in global temperatures.

“Even optimistic assumptions” show the cost will be in the “100s of trillions of dollars,” he told reporters. Hansen said it is not clear if the next generation “will have the ability to take such actions.”

But it’s more than a climate call to arms. Hansen is offering an indictment of Congress and the executive branch, saying the only incorruptible branch left is the judicial branch.

It is “essential” that the third branch of government, “the courts … get involved in the climate argument,” he said, adding that the courts are less likely to be influenced by third parties.

He also said that the Paris climate …

To Fight Climate Change Attorney General Deputizes Thought Police

With his latest plan to punish even thoughts and speech related to climate change, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has raised the eyebrows of even his fellow climate-change activist Democrat attorneys general (AG).

Officials from a number of state AG offices expressed anxiety about Schneiderman’s controversial plan to investigate and possibly prosecute not only energy companies, but think tanks, for challenging the science underpinning some of the more alarmist statements coming from the Al Gore camp of the party on climate issues. Newly-releasedemails, obtained under freedom of information laws, reveal a level of discomfort with Schneiderman’s strategy.

Ironically, as Schneiderman sought to line up AGs to join a coalition to use anti-racketeering laws to silence individuals and institutions for expressing views skeptical that human beings are causing catastrophic global warming, numerous AGs who Schneiderman targeted as allies acted more like cautious co-conspirators. They warned his staff not to put much in writing, to assume state open records laws would expose their radical tactics, and pointedly asked Schneiderman to “dial back” language suggesting they were joining the coalition.…
