Gabe Vecchi, a research oceanographer with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), said that if global warming altered Haiyan, it did not do so to a significant extent. ‘I expect that the contribution of global warming to Haiyan’s extreme intensity is likely to have been small, relative to other factors like weather fluctuations and climate variability.’

Climatologist Dr. Heidi Cullen appears to be the first global warming activist to promote a link between typhoon Haiyan and man-made global warming. See: Meteorologist Anthony Watts announces: ‘Dr. Heidi Cullen of Climate Central wins the “First Haiyan BS award” with this missive.
Weather Bell meteorologist Joe Bastardi also weighed in, excoriating Cullen “Are you for real?, Bastardi asked Cullen. “Of course water is warm, NO typhoons within 100 miles of this since 2008. No stirring of water,” he explained.
“Did you even bother to look at how infrequent typhoons have been where this is crossing, which means water is not cooled?’ Bastardi wrote.

Temperatures: Global temperatures have been flat since 1998
Global Cooling: ‘Attention in the public debate seems to be moving away from the 15-17 year ‘pause’ to the cooling since 2002,” writes Dr. Judith Curry, the chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Institute of Technology.
Extreme Weather: “It is misleading and just plain incorrect to claim that disasters associated with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or droughts have increased on climate timescales either in the United States or globally,” Professor Roger Pielke Jr. said in his testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
Hurricanes: ‘Hurricanes have not increased in frequency, intensity or normalized damage in the U.S. since 1900.
Tornadoes: Tornadoes and tropical cyclones have also not become more intense or frequent since 1950 and 1970, respectfully.
Floods & Droughts: U.S. floods have not increased in frequency or intensity since 1950, according to Professor Roger Pielke Jr., and droughts have become shorter, less frequent, and smaller over the last century. Globally, floods have changed very little in the last 60 years.
Wildfires: Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, the “skeptical environmentalist,” writes: “Historical analysis of wildfires around the world shows that since 1950 their numbers have decreased globally by 15%… The world has not seen a general increase in drought. A study published in Nature in November shows globally that ‘there has been little change in drought over the past 60 years.’
Arctic Ice: Arctic sea ice coverage was 29 percent greater in September of this year compared to the same time last year — with ice covering 533,000 square miles of ocean more than last year.
Antarctic Ice: The south pole has also fared well, despite rising greenhouse gas emissions. Antarctic sea ice hit a 35-year record high in September — covering nearly 20 million square kilometers of ocean with ice. The previous sea ice coverage record was in 2012, meaning there have been two straight record high years.

Did Obama write that? There is no such thing as “global warming”, AGW, “climate change” ad nauseum. As the article points out there have been stronger storms and the “press corpse” (how appropriate) took the opportunity to do what they do best; ignore facts and print/post/broadcast garbage designed to bolster all prior lies about climate and weather.

-As the article that you cited points out, the sea beneath that ice has warmed considerably in recent years. Increased wind speed is what led to increased ice formation.
Don’t forget – the last ice age ended 12,500 years ago. Since then, the oceans have risen 387 feet. A millimeter or so is still within the margin of error of the instruments. It’s so pointless and crazy, but where would the Left be without a crisis?

The million dollar question: Will you go to Heaven when you die? Here’s a quick test. Have you ever lied (we all have), stolen anything (the value is irrelevant), or used God’s name in vain (omg)? Jesus said, “whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done those things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in Hell.
That’s not God’s will. He sent his Son to suffer and die on the cross for you. You broke God’s Law, but Jesus paid your fine. That means he can legally dismiss your case. He can commute your death sentence: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Then Jesus rose from the dead and defeated death.
Pray something like this: “Dear God, I repent of all of my sins (name them). Please forgive me God. This day I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

There is not now, nor has there ever been, a living soul that did not sin, except for Jesus Christ. He lived 33 years sin free. Only a sin free blood sacrifice would satisfy God’s holy justice for our sin. And so Jesus entered the world as a helpless and defenseless child when He could have come in great power and glory. He said He came to fulfill scripture that prophesied His birth, life, death, and resurrection thousands of years before He was born. He became a proptitation for us and died a substitionary death for each one of us.
Mankind cannot avoid sinning. It is impossible. And since the wages of sin is death, physical and spiritual, we have no hope of ever being good enough to go to heaven. But simply by faith in Jesus and accepting Him as our personal savior from the sin we have and will commit we are saved from eternal spiritual death. Jesus experienced every form of difficulty we can ever experience and He was tempted by Satan with riches and power not one of us could resist. But He resisted all that to face a horrific death with you and me in mind all the time.
We are free to choose what we will worship. Riches, fame, power, ourselves, or nothing at all. Or we can worship the Creator of all that we have ever known.
It’s odd you would ask how one picks a God. I have just listed a few gods people now worship. But there is nothing inspiring, satisfying, or comforting about any of those when death comes. Peace is granted us in our suffering by the grace of the one who took our punishment because He loves us so much. More than the human mind can comprehend.

You’re not making sense.
Haiyan’s official wind may be 147 mph, but that is in JMA’s and PAGASA’s own 10-minute sustained and not one-minute as commonly used by the JTWC/NHC. It would mean that Haiyan is technically 164 mph by multiplying by 1.14, but the JMA have a scale called Koba scale – 125 kts (147 mph) would be 8.0 which roughly equates to the top end of the US Dvorak scale at 170 kts (196 mph). You know not much of the WPAC basin, and that JMA give more conservative estimates. So the official 1-min ESTIMATE is at 170 kts as mentioned. PAGASA on the other hand have recorded 174 mph BEFORE the station went off
Get your facts straight. A survey done in Salcedo, Eastern Samar (when wind shifted to their ENE) the storm surge levels are as high as 45 feet.
Global warming NOR cooling have nothing to do with Haiyan, which was mainly fueled by extremely favorable atmospheric conditions. Why the hell are you talking about “global warming” and “global cooling” when Haiyan formed during the passage of a KW/MJO.
