Thicker-leaved tropical plants may flourish as CO2 rises, which could be good for climate

“Our work suggests that by shifting which plants are growing in the forest there may be less dire consequences of higher CO2 than other studies have suggested,” Swann said. “There is a lot we still don’t know about how plants are responding to climate change — this work really sets up some best guesses about which plants will grow best in future tropical forests that we can test with more observations.”…

First X-rays from Uranus Discovered

One possibility is that the rings of Uranus are producing X-rays themselves, which is the case for Saturn’s rings. Uranus is surrounded by charged particles such as electrons and protons in its nearby space environment. If these energetic particles collide with the rings, they could cause the rings to glow in X-rays. Another possibility is that at least some of the X-rays come from auroras on Uranus, a phenomenon that has previously been observed on this planet at other wavelengths.…

Unique macro-vertebrate at risk from blood sport and climate change

His final point was a word of caution with respect to the culture that surrounds Pokemon. “It’s specifically based around over-exploitation with the tagline ‘gotta catch them all.’ The rarer they get, the more valuable they get. This is like some of the larger tuna species, which are in serious danger of going extinct. We might have focused on climate change in this study but, for many Pokemon (and many species around the world), overexploitation should also be a concern.”…

Is America Burning?

Guest Post by Willis Eschenbach For the last couple of decades since I started seriously studying the climate, I’ve been hearing Americans of all kinds claiming that the United States……
