Laurie David had planned to retire from life as a political activist and Hollywood bundler and pass the baton to a new generation. Then along came President Donald Trump.
“After the election, it took me two weeks to just stop crying. I was just anticipating what was to come and what has come was worse than what I was crying about,” David told The Hollywood Reporter. “We lived through George Bush, we lived through Newt Gingrich, but that is nothing compared to what is happening.”
With two national marches planned over the next seven days – the Science March on Saturday and the People’s Climate March a week later – David is back in action and renewing her efforts. Both marches are taking place in Washington, D.C., but sister marches are planned in hundreds of cities across the world including Los Angeles. The marches will bookend a star-studded “evening of comedy” event on Tuesday hosted by David for the Natural Resources Defense Council legal fund at the Wallis Annenberg Center, where Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Larry David are scheduled to perform. The response to the NRDC event has been overwhelming, says Laurie David.
Flashback 2007: Crying Activist Part 3: NPR: Laurie David on her climate awakening: ‘I remember crying every day at five in the afternoon’
– ‘My concerns about global warming began soon after we had our first child’ — I was a new mom, feeling very overwhelmed with the realization that I was now irreversibly responsible for this tiny creature. There was no turning back. I remember crying every day at five in the afternoon, the witching hour, my stress level at a breaking point. My husband and I would look at each other as if to say, “What have we done?”
Flashback 2007: Sen. Inhofe slams DiCaprio and Laurie David in two-hour Senate floor speech debunking climate fears
– Hollywood activist Laurie David, Gore’s co-producer of “An Inconvenient Truth” recently co-authored a children’s global warming book with Cambria Gordon for Scholastic Books titled, The Down-To-Earth Guide to Global Warming. David has made it clear that her goal is to influence young minds with her new book when she recently wrote an open letter to her children stating: “We want you to grow up to be activists.” Apparently, David and other activists are getting frustrated by the widespread skepticism on climate as reflected in both the U.S. and the UK according to the latest polls. It appears the alarmists are failing to convince adults to believe their increasingly shrill and scientifically unfounded rhetoric, so they have decided kids are an easier sell. But David should worry less about recruiting young activists and more about scientific accuracy. A science group found what it called a major “scientific error” in David’s new kid’s book on page 18. According to a Science and Public Policy Institute release on September 13: “The authors [David and Gordon] present unsuspecting children with an altered temperature and CO2 graph that reverses the relationship found in the scientific literature. The manipulation is critical because David’s central premise posits that CO2 drives temperature, yet the peer-reviewed literature is unanimous that CO2 changes have historically followed temperature changes.” David has now been forced to publicly admit this significant scientific error in her book.
