A wasted political environment: Warmist Tom Steyer gets few results from his $174 million

– – Wednesday, November 23, 2016

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

It’s right out of “Brewster’s Millions.” A rich guy quickly blows through $174 million and in the end, walks away with nothing to show for it. That’s the strange but true story of hedge fund billionaire-turned green activist Tom Steyer.

After making his fortune from investments that include some of the planet’s most environmentally unsound operations, Mr. Steyer said he experienced a “Road to Damascus” moment and repented by becoming “Daddy Greenbucks” to radical environmentalists and their elected champions.

In 2014, after boasting that he would make climate change the top campaign issue, he spent nearly $75 million, mostly from his own deep pockets, making him the election season’s largest single donor.

Politico and others criticized his ads as “super weird” and “bizarre.” One received “Four Pinocchios” from The Washington Post fact-checker for relying on “speculation, not facts, to make insinuations and assertions not justified by reality.”

AP warmists try to reassure themselves: ‘Trump rollback of Obama climate agenda may prove challenging’

Trump said during the campaign he would “cancel” the Paris agreement to make global reductions in carbon emissions that Obama signed in December.

The agreement was not a treaty and was not approved by the Republican-controlled Senate, and legal experts agree that as president Trump would have the authority to walk away. Even without a formal withdrawal, Trump could simply order EPA not to take any action toward meeting the U.S. commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 26 percent below 2005 levels within the next 10 years.…

Pope warns Trump: Do not back away from UN climate pact – Pope declares ‘crisis of climatic change’

Pope Francis has issued a climate change challenge directly to President Elect Trump. The Pope, in thinly veiled speech, urged Trump not to withdraw the U.S. from the United Nations Paris agreement reached in 2015. The UN treaty has been said by critics to be “history’s most expensive treaty’,” with a “cost of between $1 trillion and $2 trillion annually.”

Pope Francis warned of the “crisis of climate change.”  “The ‘distraction’ or delay in implementing global agreements on the environment shows that politics has become submissive to a technology and economy which seek profit above all else,” Francis said, in what Reuters described as “a message that looked to be squarely aimed at” Trump.

Speaking to a group of scientists, including physicist Stephen Hawking, the pope said in his speech that scientists should “work free of political, economic or ideological interests, to develop a cultural model which can face the crisis of climatic change and its social consequences”. The Pope has previously urged Catholics to pray for a UN climate agreement. See: Pope urges prayers for passage of UN climate treaty! Pope Francis also called for “an ecological conversion capable of supporting and promoting sustainable development.” In 2015, the Pope issued an encyclical on climate and the environment titled “Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home.”

The report noted: “The Vatican relied on advisers who are the most extreme elements in the global warming debate.  These climate advisors are so far out of the mainstream they even make some of their fellow climate activists cringe…The Vatican advisors can only be described as a brew of anti-capitalist, pro-population control advocates who allow no dissent and are way out of the mainstream of even the global warming establishment.”

Media Blasted for ‘Fake News’ on Trump’s Climate Stance

In a piece picked up by the Drudge Report, ClimateDepot.com editor Marc Morano, who produced the documentary Climate Hustle, acknowledged that Trump’s remarks were not as hardcore as his campaign rhetoric. But they hardly justified the media’s bogus claims. “Trump’s claim to have an open mind on U.S. climate policy and his comment that ´I’m going to take a look at´ withdrawing from the UN Paris agreement are more nuanced than his previous blunt statements that the U.S. will cancel the UN agreement,” Morano explained. “But those comments in the context of the interview are hardly a flip-flop or major signal of changing views on the issue.”

Climate Depot also included a number of quotes from leading scientists celebrating Trump’s victory and what it might mean for restoring honesty in science. “Trump’s victory is very promising,” exclaimed Norwegian Astrophysicist Prof. Jan-Erik Solheim from the University of Tromso. “We can get real science back in the field.” Prominent Swedish geologist Dr. Nils Axel Morner of Stockholm University echoed the sentiment: “We have a benefit from Trump’s victory: We scientists may see a liberation from this unscientific closing of journals,” said Morner, perhaps the world’s top expert on sea levels and a former UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) expert reviewer. Numerous others agreed.

Ironically, even climate alarmists on the ultra-left end of the spectrum recognized the establishment media’…

Mainstream Media Distorts Donald Trump’s Climate Stance

Climate realist Marc Morano of the leading Washington, D.C.-based Climate Depotnews site labeled the coverage “dishonest,” pointing out that the reporting “was not supported by the full transcript of the meeting.” Heartland Institute President Joe Bast agreed, adding:

The Left wants to drive wedges between Trump and his base by spinning anything he says as “retreating from campaign promises.” But expressing nuance and avoiding confrontation with determined foes who buy ink by the barrel is not retreating.

It was a false alarm. Trump has not backed off on his commitment to pull the U.S. out of the United Nations Paris Agreement on climate change.…
