To Fight Climate Change Attorney General Deputizes Thought Police

With his latest plan to punish even thoughts and speech related to climate change, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has raised the eyebrows of even his fellow climate-change activist Democrat attorneys general (AG).

Officials from a number of state AG offices expressed anxiety about Schneiderman’s controversial plan to investigate and possibly prosecute not only energy companies, but think tanks, for challenging the science underpinning some of the more alarmist statements coming from the Al Gore camp of the party on climate issues. Newly-releasedemails, obtained under freedom of information laws, reveal a level of discomfort with Schneiderman’s strategy.

Ironically, as Schneiderman sought to line up AGs to join a coalition to use anti-racketeering laws to silence individuals and institutions for expressing views skeptical that human beings are causing catastrophic global warming, numerous AGs who Schneiderman targeted as allies acted more like cautious co-conspirators. They warned his staff not to put much in writing, to assume state open records laws would expose their radical tactics, and pointedly asked Schneiderman to “dial back” language suggesting they were joining the coalition.…

Study: ‘Recent increase in tree growth that has been unprecedented since the year 1760’

In eastern Tibetan forest, signs of tree growth amid climate change

Researchers follow a lead from nomadic herders and find a forest getting nutrients and water from thawing permafrost

Summary:
Word of mouth from nomadic herders led Lucas Silva into Tibetan forests and grasslands. What his team found was startling: rapid forest growth in tune with what scientists had been expecting from climatic changes triggered by rising levels of carbon dioxide.

On the eastern Tibetan Plateau — in an area where it was thought that “climatically induced ecological thresholds had not yet been crossed” — Silva’s team found that the increasing availability of soil nutrients and water from thawing permafrost is stimulating the chemistry of the wood in a species of fir trees (Abies faxoniana).

“Our results confirmed the reports of local herders and showed a recent increase in tree growth that has been unprecedented since the year 1760,” Silva said. “These result demonstrate that under a specific set of conditions, forests can respond positively to human-induced changes in climate.”

The findings were published Aug. 31 in Science Advances, an online, open-access publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Nomads had reported their observations to study co-author Geng Sun of China’s Chengdu Institute of Biology in Sichuan, China. The research team traveled to the region in eastern Tibet where they found old-growth forests, smaller patches of trees and trees isolated on the perimeter of the forests.

“We wanted to take a long term view of changes in tree growth across this gradient,” Silva said. “To do so, we combined tree-ring measurements with laboratory analyses to look for changes in growth as well as chemical signals of climatic change.”…

Obama’s Climate Change Diversion: ‘Endures humiliation at the G20 for a toothless deal’

President Obama will tolerate a lot for an opportunity to push his climate-change agenda. At this weekend’s G20 summit meeting of the world’s developed (aka “rich”) nations, which account for 85 percent of the world’s economy, his Chinese hosts really poured on the humiliation.

Unlike every other national leader, Obama was not given an opportunity to descend directly from his airplane on to a red carpet. The face-conscious Chinese denied him a staircase, forcing him to descend from the belly of Air Force One, a snub fully reported overseas in the Guardian but touched on only lightly in our newspaper of record, the New York Times. When Obama raised the issue of China’s militarization of the islands it has constructed in the South China Sea, President Xi Jinping told him China would “unswervingly safeguard” its claims in the area. When the American president raised the issue of human rights, Xi told him not to interfere in China’s internal affairs. Perhaps the unkindest cut of all came when Xi praised the Paris agreement to limit carbon emissions, the issue on which Obama had come to take a victory lap, “It was under Chinese leadership that much of this progress was made.”

Xi was wrong on both of these counts: the Paris accord will not limit emissions, and China was a reluctant signatory to the agreement forged in Paris, largely by Obama, and whereas America agreed to drastic cuts in emissions, China made no such promise. All it agreed to do, at some date in the distant future—perhaps 2030 if that proves convenient—is to begin slowing the rate of increase of its emissions relative to the growth in the country’s GDP. Not a word about ending China’s financing coal plants in other countries—92 in 27 countries is the current count of the San Francisco-based Climate Policy Initiative, enough new coal-fired capacity to offset all the plant closures and emissions reductions planned in the United States for the next decade. No surprise that Xie Zhenhua, China’s senior climate change negotiator in Paris, says the deal struck there is “fair and just, comprehensive and balanced.”…

Clinton says Hurricane Hermine was caused by climate change as hurricane drought persists

In an apparent effort to entice Bernie Sanders’ supporters, #Hillary Clintonblamed #Climate Change for Hurricane Hermine, the first hurricane to hit Florida since 2005. At a rally yesterday in Tampa, Florida, Clinton warned that more storms like Hermine were on the horizon despite all indicators pointing in the opposite direction. For those wondering if Clinton would be President #Obama’s third term, putting the climate above the stalled economy is further proof of her priorities.

At the rally, Clinton railed: “Another threat to our country is climate change. 2015 was the hottest year on record, and the science is clear. It’s real. It’s wreaking havoc on communities across America. Last week’s hurricane was another reminder of the devastation that extreme weather can cause, and I send my thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by Hermine.” You can view the clip in full here:…

Tipping Points Postponed Again: Arctic Sea Ice Refuses To Melt – No Real Shrinking In 10 Years

Japanese climate blogger Kirye caught my eye here at Twitter when posting a comparator chart of Arctic sea ice extent (and thickness) for 2007, 2015 and this year (2016) for September 4. In a nutshell, what is all the alarm about?

She comments that “Arctic ice is not doomed in the real world.” Clearly Arctic sea ice this summer will most likely not set a new record. There’s far more ice up there then what global warming alarmists hysterically projected earlier.

Also a recent chart of Arctic sea ice extent by the National Snow Ice and Data Center (NSIDC) shows that current sea ice extent is some half a million square kilometers over the 2012 level:

Source: NSIDC

Clearly over the past years Arctic sea ice has refused to have anything to do with the often claimed “death spiral” and alarmists are always forced to go back a number of years in order to get the sharp downward overall trend they want to see.

Lately, however, it has not been downward at all.

No downward trend over past decade

Looking back at the past 10 years, we see there has been practically no downward trend whatsoever. A chart generated at Woodfortrees here for the past 10 years clearly illustrates this:

No melt in 10 years! Chart: Woodfortrees

Clearly the Arctic is nowhere near a death spiral, and the polar ice has in fact defied the models and the many earlier predictions that it would disappear by 2015 altogether. With all that ice still up there, it’s time for the sea ice and global warming modelers to discard their equations – and to start over again from scratch.

With millions of square kilometers of ice still up there reflecting summer radiation back into space, it’s time readjust the energy budget.

Tipping points postponed again!…

Green Party Prez Candidate Jill Stein Predicts One Foot Of Sea Level Rise Per Year

Jill Stein says NASA’s James Hansen predicts 50 feet of sea level rise in the next 50 years, but NOAA is more conservative at only 10 feet.

Jill Stein tells The Times editorial board why she thinks voting Democrat or Republican makes little difference – LA Times

The people at NOAA who actually study sea level say it is rising less than seven inches per century.

the absolute global sea level rise is believed to be 1.7-1.8 millimeters/year.

Sea Level Trends – Global Regional Trends

On September 8, 1900 – sea level at Galveston, Texas rose 18 feet in one hour.

The storm killed 10,000 people, whose bodies were dumped at sea. But the bodies washed back so they had to burn them.

CO2 was 300 PPM at the time.…

Black Lives Matter: ‘The climate crisis is a racist crisis’

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Black Lives Matter has gone Climate in a big way, with a protest which shut down London City Airport. London City Airport is a premium facility located in the heart of London, near one of London’s major financial / banking districts.

Black Lives Matter protest stops flights at London City airport

Police arrest seven of nine people chained to tripod on runway in protest against impact of air pollution on black people.

Flights have been cancelled at London’s City airport after nine protesters from Black Lives Matter UK got on to the runway and chained themselves together.

The airport said all flights were disrupted and that police were at the scene.

The campaign said it carried out the protest to highlight the environmental impact of air travel on the lives of black people locally and globally.

It posted images of protesters lying on the runway after unfurling banners.

The group issued a video that said the reason for the protest was that the climate crisis was a “racist crisis”.

The BLM video;

By 2050 there will be 200 million climate refugees. Black people are the first to die, not the first to fly, in this racist climate crisis.

Climate crisis is a racist crisis. Cut emissions. Open borders..

If Black Lives Matter really cared about Africa, they might have made an effort to discover that despite dire predictions nobody has yet managed to produce a genuine climate refugee. They might also have discovered that climate policies are having a devastating effect on native Africans, who in some cases are being evicted from their homes by violent gangsters, to make way for palm oil biofuel plantations.…
