Watch: NASA’s chief climate scientist Gavin Schmidt claims Texans won’t listen to ‘liberal, Jewish atheist from NYC’ about ‘global warming’

Speaking at a science conference in Washington, DC, Chief NASA climate scientist Gavin Schmidt says, ‘we really want to allow less science and more cultural understanding’ to successfully message the climate narrative in places like Texas.
NASA’s Schmidt: “Now, you know there’s some communities I can’t talk to because, you know, I’m a liberal, Jewish atheist from New York City, right? So if I go to Texas and try and tell people about climate change, I’m totally the wrong messenger, right? Because we don’t have any shared values quite frankly. […] A lot of times we think, ‘oh, more science, more science’, and really we want to allow less science and more cultural understanding, and that might take us a lot further.”

NASA GISS DIRECTOR GAVIN SCHMIDT: “You have to get to the real problem. And, the real problem is not that they don’t believe the scientists. The real problem is not that the graph was in the wrong color. The real problem is not that the animation wasn’t interactive enough. There’s another problem, right? It’s a question of values, right? What they see when you show them a graph is a rejection of some deep value that they hold dear, right? And, if that’s the way it’s going to go you’re never going to get anywhere, right? So, if you’re talking to somebody you have to find the value issue where you can actually kind of dig down and see what’s going on. And, stories can help with that, because stories can help demonstrate that we share very many of the same values. ‘We all love our children,’ well mostly, and you know and ‘we don’t want people to die,’ and ‘we’d all like to have a nice life.’ I mean, once you build it from shared things, you can go forward.
Now, you know there’s some communities I can’t talk to because, you know, I’m a liberal, Jewish atheist from New York City, right? So if I go to Texas and try and tell people about climate change, I’m totally the wrong messenger, right? Because we don’t have any shared values quite frankly. But, some people do, right? So, Katherine Hayhoe, right? So, you know she married an evangelical pastor, and I don’t know if you saw ‘Years …
Satellite Data Shows 2015 Wasn’t Even Close To Being The Hottest Year On Record
Satellite temperature data measuring Earth’s lower atmosphere shows that 2015 only ranks as the third-warmest year on record, and not the warmest year as predicted by scientists relying on weather station data.
Climate scientists with the University of Alabama, Huntsville reported Tuesday the temperature anomaly for December 2015 was 0.44 degrees Celsius above the 1981 to 2010 average, fueled by an El Nino warming event. UAH scientist Dr. Roy Spencer posted on his blog that this “makes 2015 the third warmest year globally (+0.27 deg C) in the satellite record (since 1979).”
Spencer noted 1998 was still the warmest year on record, but added that since “2016 should be warmer than 2015 with the current El Nino, there is a good chance 2016 will end up as a record warm year…it all depends upon how quickly El Nino wanes later in the year.”
UAH satellite data comes after scientists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported “year-to-date temperature across global land and ocean surfaces was 1.57°F (0.87°C) above the 20th century average” which is “the highest for January–November in the 1880–2015 record.”
Climate Skeptics May Be Too ‘Mentally Ill’ to Buy Guns Under Obama’s New Rules
http://www.mrctv.org/blog/are-climate-skeptics-too-mentally-ill-buy-guns-under-obama-s-new-rules
Today, Pres. Obama announced new executive orders on gun control designed to keep “mentally ill” people from buying guns – but, will they be used to prevent climate skeptics from buying firearms?
Under Obama’s new rules, doctors can now report people deemed “mentally ill” to the FBI so they can be denied gun licenses.
As the official White House fact sheeton the new gun control regulations states (emphasis added):
“Current law prohibits individuals from buying a gun if, because of a mental health issue, they are either a danger to themselves or others or are unable to manage their own affairs. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has indicated that it will begin the rulemaking process to ensure that appropriate information in its records is reported to NICS.”
If, as Pres. Obama has repeatedly claimed, climate change is a greater threat than terrorism, then aren’t people who deny the climate threat “a danger to themselves or others” and unfit to own guns?
The idea that climate skeptics are mentally ill is nothing new:
Oregon-based professor of “sociology and environmental studies” Kari Norgaard has declared climate skepticism a mental illness that must be “treated.”
Psychology Today published an article listing three warning signs that you are in “climate change denial”:
- “You think climate change is bad, but not that bad.”
- “You don’t have an emotional reaction to climate change.”
- “You aren’t getting political.”
Thus, if you don’t think the climate threat is great enough, or you’re not furious about it, or you’re not politically active in the climate fight, then you’ve got mental issues.
The Telegraph’s “Climate ‘denial’ is now a mental disorder” explains how so-call “eco-psychologists” convened at the University of the West of England in Bristol to explore classifying “climate change denial” as a “mental disorder.”
Nature.com published an article warning about high-carbon “addiction” (using central heating, etc.)
And remember when Obama’s EPA Chief Gina McCarthy declared thatclimate skeptics aren’t “normal” people?
So, you might want to think twice before discussing the nearly two-decade pause in global warming with your doctor the next time you go in for your annual check-up.…
