‘Funny Money’: UN Climate Summit pledges will need $13.5 trillion energy sector investment says IEA

https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2015/10/22/cop21-pledges-will-need-13-5-trillion-energy-sector-investment-says-iea/

Welcome to the world of funny money as ‘climate pledges’ are converted into imaginary dollars. PEIreports on the latest fantasy numbers as the Paris climate conference aka COP21 approaches.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has today released a special briefing document that outlines the energy sector implications of national decarbonisation pledges submitted for the upcoming December climate summit in Paris, known as COP21.

The briefing finds that if all countries meet the goals outlined in their submitted pledges, growth in energy-related emissions – which account for two-thirds of total greenhouse gas emissions – will “slow to a relative crawl by 2030”.   …

Congress investigating scientist who advocated RICO use for climate skeptics

http://watchdog.org/243088/shukla-rico-law/

Climate scientist Jagadish Shukla is now under congressional investigation.

On Monday, the Republican chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology sent a letter to the attorney for the decorated George Mason University climate dynamics professor, calling for financial details regarding the Institute of Global Environment and Society, which Shukla heads.

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, said the committee is conducting an investigation into a series of grants “worth millions of dollars” into nonprofits established by Shukla and by what Smith’s letter calls “an egregious use of taxpayer money.”

Watchdog.org left two messages with Shukla’s office Monday and Tuesday, but did not receive a response. Two voicemail messages were also left for his attorney that went unreturned.…

Exxon Hits Back: ‘When it comes to climate change, read the documents’

http://www.exxonmobilperspectives.com/2015/10/21/when-it-comes-to-climate-change-read-the-documents/

Why do we want you to read them?

Because you will see that they completely undercut the allegations made by InsideClimate News in its series about ExxonMobil – allegations that were subsequently echoed by activists like Bill McKibben and Naomi Oreskes.

What these documents actually demonstrate is a robust culture of scientific discourse on the causes and risks of climate change that took place at ExxonMobil in the 1970s and ’80s and continues today.

They also help explain why ExxonMobil would work with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and leading universities like MIT and Stanford on ways to expand climate science knowledge. …

Study shows climate change made Calif. drought less likely to occur

http://www.examiner.com/article/study-shows-climate-change-made-calif-drought-less-likely-to-occur

A new peer-reviewed study refutes Gov. Jerry Brown’s assertion that global warming is behind California’s drought, indicating that climate changeneither makes droughts more likely to occur nor exacerbates them. The study, published this week in the Journal of Climate, shows that the “net effect of climate change” has made California’s agriculture drought “less likely” to happen and that the “current severe impacts of drought on California’s agriculture” has not been exacerbated by long-term climate changes. This is another stinging indictment that Gov. Brown’s belief that global warming is causing California’s drought is bordering on wish fulfillment.…

John Kerry: Bar Global Warming Skeptics From Elected Office – ‘They disqualify themselves fundamentally from high public office’

http://news.investors.com/blogs-capital-hill/102115-776750-john-kerry-climate-change-deniers-should-be-barred-from-office.htm

John Kerry:

“But when I hear a United States senator say, ‘I’m not a scientist so I can’t make a judgment,’ or a candidate for president for that matter, I’m absolutely astounded. I mean, it’s incomprehensible that a grownup who has been to high school and college in the United States of America disqualifies themselves because they’re not a scientist when they’ve learned that the Earth rotates on its axis, but they’re not a scientist; where they’ve learned that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, and it does so 24 hours a day; and you can run the list of things that we know science tells us happens, and we accept it every single day.

“And to suggest that when more than 6,000-plus peer-reviewed studies of the world’s best scientists all lay out that this is happening and mankind is contributing to it, it seems to me that they disqualify themselves fundamentally from high public office with those kinds of statements.”

Top Physicist Bolts from Global Warming ‘Consensus’ And Says Obama Backed ‘Wrong Side’

Freeman Dyson is a 91-year-old theoretical physicist who was a contemporary of Einstein at Princeton, has received multiple international awards for his scientific efforts, and has published numerous books and papers on a wide range of topics.

Dyson is criticizing scientists who advance what he describes as an ‘agenda-driven’ perspective on global warming.

In an interview with The Register, Dyson responded to questions about the forward he just wrote for a scientific paper that confronts the “overrated” concerns about CO2 in the atmosphere:…

Too Much Ice? Not Enough Ice? Blame ‘Climate Change’!

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2015/10/18/too-much-ice-not-enough-ice-blame-climate-change/

The universal, voodoo all-purpose bogeyman: Climate Change.

World savers are anything but. They always have an unspoken motive. H.L. Mencken saw the self-appointed saviors for what they were almost a century ago, when he said the “whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”

The most persistent hobgoblin of the last quarter-century has been global warming, now called climate change but eventually to be known as extreme weather, or some such other fright-inducing name. The climate activists are constantly bombarding us with warnings, hectoring, hysteria, pleading and threats. Apocalyptic books have been written and shrill movies made, all in an effort to slow man’s combustion of fossil fuels.…

Warmist Weatherman Greg Fishel ‘was once a Limbaugh-loving climate skeptic. Now he’s fighting global warming’

http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/greg-fishel-was-once-a-limbaugh-loving-climate-skeptic-now-hes-fighting-global-warming/Content?oid=4830678

Last week, the meteorologist penned a blog post titled, “Choose science, stewardship in understanding climate change,” a public admission of his previous ignorance and a plea for people like him—Republicans, churchgoers, Fox News fanatics—to approach the topic scientifically rather than ideologically.

Fishel’s essay, which derides blind party and religious loyalty as “unadulterated bunk,” was inspired by a climate workshop he attended in Beaufort this month, plus research from his trip to Alaska’s Barrow Observatory in March. The post originally appeared on the WRAL Weathercenter blog on Oct. 12, but when The Washington Post picked it up that same day, our snow-loving weatherman was catapulted to the front lines of a national debate.…
