Watch: MIT’s Dr. Richard Lindzen on Fox News: ‘The whole thing is fairly absurd’ – ‘We are demonizing a chemical — a molecule essential to life – CO2’
Climate Skeptical Scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen of MIT on Fox Business with ‘Varney & Company’ with Stuart Varney on March 6, 2015:
Selected highlights:
Lindzen on VP Joe Biden saying ‘Denying climate change is like denying gravity.’
Lindzen: ‘He’s absolutely right. Climate has been changing for 4.5 billion years and on all time scales.
This is the problem. These guys think saying climate changes, saying it gets warmer or colder by a few tenths of a degree should be taken as evidence that the end of the world is coming. And it completely ignores the fact that until this hysteria, climate scientists used to refer to the warm periods in our history as optima.
Lindzen on CO2: ‘So here we are demonizing a chemical — a molecule essential to life – CO2– we are declaring doom based on things we used to like and somehow we are supposed to overturn our whole economy in order to deal with this purported disaster.’
Lindzen on EPA Chief: ‘Obviously I don’t think [the science] matters to [EPA Chief] McCarthy. She has a political aim. She has her marching orders and they are the orders regardless of what the underlying science is.’
Lindzen on what impact EPA regs will have on climate: ‘No matter what you believe about climate, none of them will have any impact on climate. They do make energy more expensive less available, less useful, they do hurt the poor, and they raise prices. It’s hard to see what the upside is excerpt for the people who get the subsidies. The whole thing is fairly absurd. There is so much money changing hands.’

This normal course is now taken to be evidence of doom. ‘Atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide have been vastly higher through most of Earth’s history. Climates both warmer and colder than the present have coexisted with these higher levels.’…
Watch: Morano on Fox News on Google’s possible restrictions on skeptical blogs: ‘Google is going to basically say ‘truth’ is what a government agency says it is’
Watch: Morano on Fox News – March 6, 2015 ‘Happening Now’ :
Fox News Correspondent Douglas Kennedy: ‘Morano runs a anti-global warming blog that he says clears the pollution on climate science.’
Morano: ‘Let the public decide what is the truth. We call ourselves the consensus busters, because they are so often wrong. Google is going to basically say ‘truth’ is what a government agency says it is.’
‘We are actually the voice of the dissidents, we are the voice of the scientists who are speaking out against the so-called consensus.’

Google wants to rank websites based on facts not links: ‘A Google research team is adapting that model to measure the trustworthiness of a page, rather than its reputation across the web. Instead of counting incoming links, the system – which is not yet live – counts the number of incorrect facts within a page. “A source that has few false facts is considered to be trustworthy,” says the team (arxiv.org/abs/1502.03519v1). The score they compute for each page is its Knowledge-Based Trust score. The software works by tapping into the Knowledge Vault, the vast store of facts that Google has pulled off the internet. Facts the web unanimously agrees on are considered a reasonable proxy for truth. Web pages that contain contradictory information are bumped down the rankings.’
Rush Limbaugh on Google ‘facts’: ‘Who gets to decide what’s factual? I’ll give you one subject. Look at global warming. I guarantee you that everybody in Google thinks it’s real; that man’s causing it. Google believes every bit of liberal drivel, propaganda about it. By the same token, anybody who doesn’t, anybody considered a “denier,” will never, ever be revealed in a Google search.’
Google works to rank sites based on ‘truthfulness’: They fear that skeptics of things like climate change or more immigration (both subjects that Google founders have expressed strong feelings about) might find their websites buried if this ranking system were adopted. “I worry about this issue greatly… My site gets a significant portion of its daily traffic from Google,” Anthony Watts, who runs Watts Up With That, a popular blog that is skeptical of global warming claims, told FoxNews.com. “It is a very slippery and dangerous slope because there’s no arguing with a machine,” he added.

Dear Mr. Kenner, March 6, 2015
I am writing this letter on the advice of my attorneys, who suggested that a friendly letter from me to you might avoid having to take legal action.
I’ve been informed that your new documentary “Merchants of Doubt” refers to me as “Liar for Hire”. If correct, that is a very serious accusation which of course cannot be backed up in any way.
The word “Liar” implies not only telling something that is not true, but telling an untruth knowingly. So even people who disagree with me on climate-change science (and such people do exist) would have to prove that I don’t really believe what I say – that I am saying it in order to mislead.
The word “hire” implies that I am being paid directly, i.e., that I am on salary by some entity such as an oil company — or that I am taking money from a source that is supported predominately by such money and that I am aware of it. We would judge that hire is also very difficult to demonstrate.
I have some experience with libel suits; thanks to Kirkland & Ellis, we prevailed against an environmental lawyer, a groupie of then-Senator Al Gore. It took a lot of my time and was costly. I would prefer to avoid having to go to court; but if we do, we are confident that we will prevail.
My good friend, the late J. Gordon Edwards, professor of entomology at San Jose State University, sued the New York Times for libel and prevailed in a jury trial. The NYT had referred to him as someone who is being paid to lie. We think there will be no problem to demonstrate “malice.” (That is, “knowledge that [the libelous statement] was false or [made] with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not.”)
Mind you, I am not now accusing you personally of malice, but it is rather too bad that you got mixed up with Naomi Oreskes. She claims to be a historian of science; unfortunately, she has only demonstrated that she’s a great polemicist with a rather well-defined bias. Her book “Merchants of Doubt” contains a number of serious scientific errors; also, it is not …

Video: EPA Chief Doesn’t Know If Their Climate Projections Are Rights Or Wrong!
“Stunning Development” … EPA Chief Doesn’t Know If Their Projections Are Rights Or Wrong!
It is indeed stunning. A must-watch. It’s as damaging a performance on behalf of a cause that you will ever see. EPA chief Gina McCarthy also says she doesn’t even know whose models policy is being based on. She says that the models diverging from actual observations “on the whole makes no difference to the validity in the robustness of climate science that is telling us that we are facing an absolute challenge that we must address …blah blah blah…” “Whose models? What projections?” Sorry, but it makes all the difference in science. McCarthy thus confirms observational data mean nothing and that climate science is a religion at the EPA. This is as incompetent as you will ever see.
