Ben Santer’s 17 year itch, revisited – he and a whole stable of climate scientists have egg on their faces

Now that “the pause” has come of age, and has exceeded 18 years, it is time to revisit a post a made back in November 2011. Ben Santer’s 17 year itch Bill Illis reminded me in comments of this spectacular failure of peer reviewed climate science: Let’s remember several years ago when all the heavy-weights of […]

Tornado Count Remains Low: ‘Second lowest of the last decade’

Tornado Count Remains Low

http://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2014/10/02/tornado-count-remains-low/

By Paul Homewood A quick update on US tornadoes, which have continued to run at well below average levels. Based on provisional numbers, tornado numbers are the second lowest of the last decade, up to the end of September. (Tornado numbers are confirmed up to July). Last year boasted the lowest number, both at this stage of the year and for the full year. On a longer term, the “inflation adjusted” number is also close to the minimum. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/wcm/#data As for stronger tornadoes, there have so far been eight EF-4 tornadoes, and no EF-5’s. Last year there were also eight EF-4’s, for the full year, and one EF-5.

Scientist: Wildfires Were Much Worse In The Past

Wildfires Were Much Worse In The Past

http://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2014/10/04/wildfires-were-much-worse-in-the-past

By Paul Homewood There was a bit of interesting testimony at the Senate Sub-Committee on Green Jobs and the New Economy in June. Professor David South, one of the top US experts on forestry, trashes claims that AGW is making wildfires worse. Testimony of David B. South Retired Emeritus Professor, Auburn University Subcommittee on Green Jobs and the New Economy 3 June 2014 Human Activity, more so than Climate Change, Affects the Number and Size of Wildfires I am David B. South, Emeritus Professor of Forestry, Auburn University. In 1999 I was awarded the Society of American Foresters’ Barrington Moore Award for research in the area of biological science and the following year I was selected as Auburn University’s “Distinguished Graduate Lecturer.” In 1993 I received a Fulbright award to conduct tree seedling research at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and in 2002 I was a Canterbury Fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. My international travels have allowed me the opportunity to plant trees on six continents. It is a privilege for me to provide some data and views on factors that affect forests and wildfires. Foresters know there are many examples of where human activity affects both the total number and size of wildfires. Policy makers who halt active forest management and kill “green” harvesting jobs in favor of a “hands-off” approach contribute to the buildup of fuels in the forest. This eventually increases the risk of catastrophic wildfires. To attribute this human-caused increase in fire risk to carbon dioxide emissions is simply unscientific. However, in today’s world of climate alarmism, where accuracy doesn’t matter, I am not at all surprised to see many journalists spreading the idea that carbon emissions cause large wildfires. There is a well-known poem called the “Serenity prayer.” It states “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” Now that I am 63, I realize I can’t change the behavior of the media and I can’t change the weather. Early in my career I gave up trying to get the media to correct mistakes about forest management and to avoid exaggerations. I now concentrate on trying to get my colleagues to do a better job of sticking to facts; I leave guesses about …

It gets worse – the ‘Kill Climate Deniers’ play funded by the ACT Govt is specifically portraying an armed siege of the Australian Parliament

It gets worse – the “Kill Climate Deniers” play funded by the ACT Govt is specifically portraying an armed siege of the Australian Parliament

http://www.warwickhughes.com/blog/?p=3297

This Parliament House – The Aspen Island web site now says this describing their upcoming drama – material that was not online earlier yesterday – So for the benefit of overseas readers what we have here is like the The District of Columbia funding a play about an attack on the Capitol. And all at a time when security at the Australian Parliament House has been tightened with armed guards. Yesterday the ABC commented – Climate play draws fierce criticism from Andrew Bolt, ACT Opposition – I see now the Canberra Times has a story – Liberals outraged that ‘Kill Climate Deniers’ play is funded by the ACT government. I have been told by a Labor MLA that the – “title of the play is a satirical one”. Well we all know that but there are subjects too serious for satire. Just try making satirical jokes about “a bomb in the luggage” when you are going through security checks at an airport – or when you are onboard your flight.
