Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts ‘refriger-nation’ winter for U.S. East Coast

Published Wednesday, the 223-year-old New Hampshire-based almanac predicts a cold, snowy winter in the eastern two-thirds of the United States, while the west remains a bit warmer than normal.
Most of the Northeast can expect more snowfall than normal, though it will be below normal in New England.
“Think of it as refriger-nation,” said editor Janice Stillman. “Colder is just almost too familiar a term.”
Meanwhile, the bone-dry West is looking at continued drought through 2015.
The Old Farmers Almanac, not to be confused with its younger cousin, the Maine-based Farmer’s Almanac, uses a ‘secret formula’ that includes sunspots, prevailing weather patterns, basic meteorology and modern tech to make its yearly predictions.
Its publisher’s claim their forecasts have an 80 percent accuracy rate.
