Climatologist Dr. Roy Spencer: EPA Admits to Senate that CO2 Regs Not About Pollution Control but an ‘investment opportunity’
EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy had this priceless quote regarding the EPA’s proposed carbon dioxide regulations (italics added):
“And the great thing about this proposal is it really is an investment opportunity. This is not about pollution control. It’s about increased efficiency at our plants…It’s about investments in renewables and clean energy. It’s about investments in people’s ability to lower their electricity bills by getting good, clean, efficient appliances, homes, rental units.”
Spencer: ‘Mmm hmmm. Kind of like investment in Solyndra? Or Tesla?’…

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is being forced to relocate the agency’s Region 4 hearing on proposed climate regulations to limit carbon dioxide emissions from coal plants. (See: Obama advisor John Podesta claims EPA CO2 regs (which don’t impact global CO2 levels) are needed to combat extreme weather)
Opponents of the new EPA regulations say they will deal a devastating blow to the U.S. coal industry. Coal is in the cross-hairs of the Obama Administration’s battle to fight “global warming.” Already, the coal industry is reeling from the looming regulations. Climate Depot has obtained this July 25, 2014 email from Acting Congressional Liaison Dionne Delli-Gatti of US EPA’s Region 4 office. The email, sent at 2:33 PM is titled “Atlanta Clean Power Plan Public Hearing Location Changed.”
“Please be aware that as the result of a large scale power outage at the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center, EPA will hold the July 29 and 30, 2014, Atlanta Clean Power Plan public hearings at the Omni Hotel,” the EPA email alert reported. (See: Power Outage Closes Atlanta Federal Building Until Friday & Electrical problem will keep Nunn federal building closed all week – Obama’s Promise Kept: “If somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them’)
The EPA email continued: “While repairs are underway at the Federal Center, there is no guarantee the facility will be fully operational in time for the hearings. This led to the agency’s decision to change locations.” [Full email below]
Reactions from energy insiders was swift.
One analyst quipped to Climate Depot: “EPA’s hearing session on their proposed guidelines to hammer existing coal plants has to be moved due to electrical outages. Feels a bit like the ‘Gore effect’. Perhaps a harbinger of things to come.”
Another wrote: “In case anyone’s looking for blog material this afternoon, EPA just announced that it has to move the location …
July 25 2014 – Global Sea Ice Highest On This Day For Last 10 Years
Warmists now trying to erase record Antarctica sea ice growth! Say ice growth due to data ‘processing’ error – Climatologist Rebuts Claims – Climatologist Dr. Pat Michaels: ‘The change since the turn of the century is about 1.3 million square kilometers, a mountain of ice The step change is about 200,000, a molehill. That doesn’t sound like “much” to us.’ – The paradigm, in this case, is that our climate models are always right and any counterfactuals are because something is wrong with the data, rather than with the predictions. “Resistance” means that peer-reviewers aren’t likely to find much wrong with papers that support the paradigm (and that they will find a lot wrong with ones that don’t). Further, the editors of scientific journals will behave the same, curiously avoiding obvious questions.
The paper, which was published in the journal Environmetrics, found that observed temperatures differed greatly from modeled temperatures in the tropical lower troposphere and mid-troposphere.
“Over the 55-years from 1958 to 2012, climate models not only significantly over-predict observed warming in the tropical troposphere, but they represent it in a fundamentally different way than is observed,” says Ross McKitrick, economist with the University of Guelph in Canada and co-author of the study.
According to McKitrick, all climate models predict that rising carbon dioxide levels will cause rapid warming in the troposphere over the tropics. But that’s not what has happened, as neither satellites nor weather balloons have detected much warming in the tropical troposphere — meaning something is likely wrong with the models.
It’s not only that the models overestimate the amount of warming in the tropical troposphere, it’s that the models misrepresent the warming by making it look like a “smooth upward trend.” But McKitrick says that observations show all the warming occurred in a “single step-change in the late 1970s coinciding with a known event (the Pacific Climate Shift), and identify no significant trend before or after.”

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent July 25 2014 – Obliterates Daily Record By 500,000 sq km
Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,131,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean.
That obliterates the previous daily record by 500,000 sq km. And is also the 127th daily record for the year.

With the possible exception of its earliest days, environmentalism was never about the environment or Earth. It was about replacing freedom with democratic socialism or outright statism. If it had been about the environment, green groups would have promoted capitalism and its wealth creation.

23% of warming in Europe since 1980 due to cleaner air
Cleaner Air = More Sunshine = Warmer
“A paper published today in Geophysical Research Letters finds that clean air laws which greatly reduced sulfur dioxide emissions explain 81% of the “brightening” of sunshine and 23% of the surface warming in Europe since 1980.”
