Newsweek said in 2009 that Marc Morano, Climate Depot founder of the blog, was becoming the “king of the skeptics” and his website was one of the main mechanisms to cast doubt on the work of scientists climate. But being qualified as a celebrity skeptic of global warming is the least that has been said of Morano.

Some highlights his place on the list of “the main enemies of the planet” which drew Rolling Stone in 2010, where next to characters like Senator John McCain, media mogul Rupert Murdoch and billionaire businessman and Warren Buffett. According to Erik Conway, historian and co-author Nasa Merchants of Doubt, Morano is one of the main leaders of the new breed of climate skeptics, those who question the theory of global warming and attributed to an alleged manipulation data to cause alarm.

Today’s Morano says, skepticism is going through a good moment.

This is confirmed by a survey of Yale and George Mason universities, which shows that while in 2008 10% of the U.S. population does not believe in global warming, in November 2013 the percentage had more than doubled, reaching 23% . “The rise of skepticism restores my faith in the intelligence of the people and their critical thinking. Skepticism is winning, because artificial climate fears have become absurd,” says Morano and also cites a Gallup poll released this week, in which a list of 15 issues of concern, global warming appears in the penultimate place among the concerns of Americans, far behind the economy and federal spending. While 24% of them consider that climate change is a “big issue” of concern, 51% simply cares little or nothing.

Morano’s full submitted responses to reporter’s questions:

Marc Morano, publisher of Climate Depot and former staff of U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee:

Question from the third / THE JOURNAL (By José Miguel Jaque. – Daily newspaper La Tercera, Chile (www.latercera.com) :  Some peopel told me that you are one of the new “leaders” of people who opposed to climate action. Are you?

Morano: Yes. I have been promoting global warming skepticism. Here is a summary of my awards and notable citations:

Morano was named one of only five ‘criminals against humanity, against planet Earth itself” in 2009 by the eco-magazine Grist. (The other five criminals were Bjorn Lomborg, Richard Lindzen, Sen. James Inhofe and former President George Bush.) Newsweek Magazine declared Morano “is quickly becoming King of the skeptics!” in December 2009. Newsweek called Climate Depot the “most popular denial site.” Tina Brown’s Daily Beast also recognized Morano as one of the “The Right’s Top 25 Journalists” who serves as a “bombastic foe of the Greens.” Daily Beast described Climate Depot as “a bustling, one-stop-shop for climate skeptics.”

Rolling Stone Magazine declared Morano one of the planets 17 “climate killers” in a cover story in December 2009. Rolling Stone called Morano “the Matt Drudge of climate denial” and “a central cell of the climate-denial machine.” Morano also received the Accuracy in Media journalism award in February 2010 for his key role in reporting on the global warming Climategate scandal. In June 2010, Morano given an award by Doctors for Disaster Preparedness (DDP) for “demonstrating courage and achievement in defense of scientific truth and freedom. In August 2010, Climate Depot and Morano were honored again by being inducted into Townhall Magazine’s “Townhall of Fame.” The magazine noted Climate Depot is “the No. 1 online destination for the truth behind today’s global warming hysteria.” In December 2010, The Daily Caller awarded Senator Inhofe and Climate Depot the ’2010 Award for Political Incorrectness’

Question: -Do you really think that  Global warmimg claims imite Ghostbusters? (it would be a very good begining for my article)

Morano: Yes. Here is my report on Ghostbusters:

‘The dead rising from the grave!’ Global warming claims imitate scene from 1984 comedy ‘Ghostbusters’ – ‘A disaster of biblical proportions…real wrath of God type stuff’

Question: -Leiserowitz and Maibach’s study show the rise of some people still skeptical about climate change (2008-2013). ¿What do you think about that?

Morano: The rise of skepticism restores my faith in peoples intelligence and their critical thinking. Skepticism is winning because man-made climate fears have become absurd. From everything to warnings about more airline turbulence to increases in rape, murder, and vehicle thefts, the man-made global warming movement has morphed into medieval witchcraft. Politicians are claiming they can alter storms and bad weather through acts of Congress or the UN.

Question: -About six months, the  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) confirmed that global warming was a real phenomenom caused by men, but also confirmed that the rate of global warming has decelerated last 15 years. There was a lot of news media attention in the U.S. to the so called “global warming pause”. Why this may causes more doubts about global warming?

Morano: The global warming ‘pause’ reveals that the climate models have failed and the fears of runaway global temperatures have not panned out. The global warming activists have contorted themselves into coming up with reasons why the ‘pause’ has occurred. See:

Climate Depot Analysis: ‘There have been at least nine  ten separate explanations for the standstill in global warming’ – 1) Low Solar Activity; 2) Oceans Ate Warming; 3) Chinese Coal Use; 4) Montreal Protocol; 5) Readjusted past temps to claim ‘pause’ never existed 6) Volcanoes 7) Decline in Water Vapor 8) Pacific Trade Winds 9)  ’Stadium Waves’ 10) ‘Coincidence’

Updated Global Temperature: No global warming for 17 years, 6 months – (No Warming for 210 Months)

Question: -What were the most important moments for scepticism since the birth of climate change concept? Maybe the “Climagate”?

Morano: Yes, Climategate was key to exposing the man-made climate ‘consensus’ con. But I think two key developments doomed the global warming movement from the beginning. The man-made global warming fear movement never overcame having a partisan figure like Al Gore being its public face and suffered from having the scandal ridden and distrusted UN IPCC as the source of its science.

A poll came out today from Gallup polling. This latest poll shows the global warming movement has failed, totally and completely to convince Americans of an impending apocalypse. Gallup Poll: Climate Change Not a Top Worry in U.S. – Majority of Americans (51%) worry ‘only a little’ or ‘not at all’ about global warming – 2014 Environmental concerns rank lowest in Gallup polling history

Examination of the long-term temperature record in Figure 7-2 may instill some skepticism, however. Direct measurements of temperature in Europe date back about 300 years, and a combination of various proxies can provide a reliable thermometer extending back 150,000 years. From Figure 7-2 (second panel from top), we see that the warming observed over the past century is actually the continuation of a longer-term trend which began in about 1700 AD, before anthropogenic inputs of greenhouse gases became appreciable. This longer-term trend is thought to be caused by natural fluctuations in solar activity. Going back further in time we find that the surface temperature of the Earth has gone through large natural swings over the past 10,000 years, with temperatures occasionally higher than present ( Figure 7-2 , second panel from bottom). Again, fluctuations in solar activity may be responsible. Extending the record back to 150,000 years ( Figure 7-2 , bottom panel) reveals the succession of glacial and interglacial climates driven by periodic fluctuations in the orbit and inclination of the Earth relative to the Sun. From consideration of Figure 7-2 alone, it would be hard to view the warming over the past 100 years as anything more than a natural fluctuation!

  2. It is very telling that not only is the “center” not investigating the reality of “Global Warming”, but it’s purpose is to disseminate information on “Climate Change” (apparently with looming disaster as a given), as if climate had not been changing since ice covered the US only a couple of hundred miles north of the university.
I guess the tactical switch from “global warming” to “climate change” is part of the learned institution’s communication recomendations.

  3. “It was always global climate change. Nobody ever said global warming.” How many times have you heard one of these lunatics say that recently? Then they turn right around and call it global warming, when it suits that day’s narrative. I always appreciated Orwell, but thought of it as being overblown, for purposes of illustration. Until now.
